Tripura Government Introduces Universal Health Insurance Scheme

Agartala: In a significant move, the Tripura government has unveiled the Mukhya Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, aligning with the Central government’s Ayushman Bharat Pradhanmantri Jan Arogya Yojana. This initiative aims to provide cashless medical treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh per family annually.

Announcing this comprehensive health insurance policy, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury emphasized its commitment to ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare for all residents, regardless of their income level.

Chowdhury highlighted that the scheme encompasses individuals from various socioeconomic backgrounds, extending coverage from impoverished citizens to affluent individuals, including senior government officials. The plan has received approval from the state’s council of ministers and is set to be formally launched by Chief Minister Manik Saha.

With over 4.50 lakh families already benefiting from the Ayushman Bharat Yojna, the remaining 4.15 lakh families will now be included under this new cashless and paperless scheme.

In the 2023-24 state budget, the Mukhya Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana was allocated Rs 59 crore, reflecting the government’s commitment to prioritize healthcare initiatives.

Notably, government officials desiring to avail themselves of the benefits offered by the Mukhya Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana must forego their medical reimbursement aid provided by the state government.
