Another NEET aspirant found dead in Kota; investigation underway

Jaipur, April 24 (IANS) Another NEET aspirant has been found dead in Rajasthan’s Kota, just 10 days before the exams. The deceased was identified as a 23-year-old Roshan Sharma who was found dead near a railway track close to Landmark City in Kota on Thursday.

The body was discovered in the bushes and identified through a call made from the student’s mobile phone by his family. According to the police, Roshan, a resident of Tughlakabad, Delhi, had last spoken to his family on Wednesday night.

During the call, he reportedly said: “Neither will I come home, nor will I appear for the exam.”

Kunhadi Police Station officer Arvind Bhardwaj confirmed that the student’s body was recovered near the railway track. Preliminary reports suggest Roshan may have died by suicide after allegedly consuming the poison, 10 days ahead of the NEET exam.

The family stated they had been in regular contact with Roshan even after returning to Delhi. Their last conversation with him took place on Wednesday night.

While poisoning is suspected, the exact cause of death has not been officially confirmed. The body has been placed in the mortuary of MBS Hospital, and a postmortem will be conducted once the family arrives in Kota.

A few days ago, another NEET aspirant committed suicide. He was from Bihar. On Tuesday, he died by suicide just weeks ahead of his scheduled exam in the first week of May. The student, a resident of Chhapra, Bihar, was staying in a private hostel in the Kunhadi police station area.

The student took the extreme step at around 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police recovered a suicide note from the room, in which the student clearly stated that the NEET exam was not the reason for his decision. He had also sent a message to his sister on WhatsApp reiterating the same. “It’s not your fault,” he wrote in the note, adding, “None of you are responsible for my suicide, nor is this due to the NEET paper.”

Experts said that there has been a rise in suicide cases before exams like NEET and JEE and hence student counselling is a must to check such cases.

My heartfelt gratitude to the people of Assam and deep appreciation to our dedicated karyakartas for their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment.”

Meanwhile, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi alleged that the “goons” of the BJP have been unleashing atrocities against the opposition candidates in the run-up to the upcoming Panchayat polls.

Gogoi said, “The state administration is biased towards the BJP and they have not taken any action against the goons of the ruling party. State Congress president Bhupen Borah and MP Pradyut Bordoloi have raised this issue with the police; however, no action was taken against the BJP goons.”

He also stated that Congress workers will not be intimidated and they will take on the BJP in the polls. “We have a long history of contesting against the ruling dispensation, and our party workers are adamant not to let down their guard in front of the intimidation and fearmongering tactics of the BJP,” Gogoi added.

The Panchayat elections in Assam will be held in two phases on May 2 and 7.

Chandrababu Naidu promises help to chilli farmers

Amaravati, Feb 20 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday assured chilli farmers of necessary assistance and urged them not to panic with the drop in prices.

The Chief Minister said he talked to the Centre about the record fall in the prices of chillies. “As the prices at the global market earlier were high the farmers could receive reasonable prices and now the rates have fallen due to low global demand,” Chandrababu Naidu told media persons in New Delhi.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president said that he has taken the matter to the notice of the Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan through video conference as he was on a tour.

He revealed that the Union Minister will review the matter with the officials on Friday.

The Chief Minister said that this year 12 lakh metric tonnes of chilli is to be procured and till now four lakh metric tonnes have been procured. He said that all the prevailing issues have been taken to the notice of the Centre and the Union Minister said that he will give clarity after holding a meeting with the officials on Friday.

Chandrababu Naidu attended the swearing-in ceremony of the Delhi Chief Minister. He later called on Minister for Water Resources C.R. Patil.

The Chief Minister said that he had discussed the Jal Jeevan Mission and the Polavaram issues with Patil and informed him that the State Government has set a target of completing the Polavaram works by 2027. “We also sought the Centre’s cooperation to shift the water from Polavaram to Banakacherla and the Central representatives will visit the State to study the matter,” he added.

He stated that the state government is now planning to utilise the water that is flowing into the sea. He claimed that the TDP-led NDA government is working with commitment.

GRP arrested 35 human traffickers in Tripura in 5 months

Agartala, Jan 6 (IANS) The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested 35 human traffickers in the last five months in Tripura for facilitating illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas into India, officials said on Monday.

An official said that the 35 human traffickers, all Indians, were arrested by the GRP from different places in Tripura in the past five months.

On Sunday night, the GRP personnel with the help of the Border Security Force (BSF) jawans arrested five more human traffickers from Konaban in Sepahijala district.

The GRP also arrested over 115 Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas at the Agartala railway station and other places since August 1.

The BSF and the Tripura state police separately arrested a large number of human traffickers from different locations in Tripura.

Over the past five months, around 600 Bangladeshi nationals and over 63 Rohingyas were arrested by the GRP, various other security forces and Tripura Police from the Agartala railway station and different places in Tripura after they illegally entered India.

The BSF alone last year arrested 55 Rohingya migrants, 620 Bangladeshi nationals and 260 Indian nationals including human traffickers in various operations.

After the unrest began in Bangladesh in July, especially after the fall of the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government on August 5, the infiltration into India’s northeastern states increased to a large extent.

The Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, after arrest, told the security personnel that they intended to go to major metropolitan cities and other places in India in search of jobs.

The Rohingyas illegally entered India after fleeing their camps in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar where more than one million displaced Rohingyas from Myanmar have been living since 2017.

A BSF spokesman said that after the Bangladesh unrest began in June-July, the border guarding force has intensified its domination and operations along the 856 km India-Bangladesh border in Tripura to prevent infiltration, exfiltration, and trans-border crimes including smuggling of contraband.

The BSF, on a number of occasions, foiled several infiltration attempts by hundreds of Bangladeshi nationals comprising both Hindus and Muslims.
