Gandhinagar, May 27 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday took a ‘proof’ swipe at the Opposition, as he stated, addressing a public gathering in Gujarat, that all the military strikes inside Pakistan as well as Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) were recorded on camera this time, just in case anyone at home asks for evidence.

“We destroyed nine terror bases in just 22 minutes. Aur iss baar camera ke samne kiya. Saari vyavastha rakhi thi, taki hamare ghar mein koi saboot na maange (Everything was done on camera this time, preparations were done in advance so that no one at home asks for proof),” PM Modi stated.

He further said that India need not given any evidence this time, as those on the other side of the border are already screaming out their ordeal after the precision strikes by the Indian security forces.

PM Modi’s ‘proof’ jibe at the Opposition comes in the wake of the Congress party raising questions over the ‘losses’ incurred by Indian Armed Forces during ‘Operation Sindoor’.

This time, the Congress-led INDIA bloc has largely refrained from raising direct questions on the military’s actions across the border. However, in previous instances like post the surgical strikes in 2016 and the Balakot airstrikes in 2019, they not only slammed the Modi government but also questioned the efficacy of those military operations.

Days after India launched precision strikes inside Pakistan and PoK, in response to the April 22 terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, the Congress and BJP have engaged in a bitter exchange over India’s response to Pakistan against its terror tactics.

The Congress has accused the Modi government of hiding details of ‘Operation Sindoor’ and also lambasted it for ‘allowing’ United States to meddle into its affairs.

The BJP has however, rejected both the charges, stating that “questioning the government on the military operation amounts to questioning the forces” and added that the understanding was reached after Pakistan made the first move seeking cessation of military action.

Earlier, the armed forces in their routine briefings about India’s military strikes shared the video footage as well as before and after images, highlighting how the key terror bases and installations were turned into ruins.

Addressing the gathering on the 20th anniversary of Gujarat Urban Development, PM Modi also drew a metaphor and said, “No matter how healthy the body is, if one thorn pricks it, the whole body becomes troubled.” “We have decided to remove that thorn,” he said referring to India’s firm and resolute retaliation to Pakistan’s abetment to terror on Indian soil.

Amaravati, Jan 17 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday hailed Rs 11,400 crore financial package to revive the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Naidu took to X to react to the Union Cabinet’s decision and termed it an emotional and proud moment for the people of Andhra Pradesh.

“Today marks a historic moment etched in steel. It is an emotional and proud moment for people of Andhra Pradesh, as the Union Government, in response to GoAP’s consistent efforts since the formation of NDA Government, has approved financial support of Rs. 11,440 crore to revive the Vizag Steel Plant,” he said.

The Chief Minister extended ‘heartfelt’ gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his unwavering support to the Steel Plant. He assured that this will contribute to the PM’s vision of nation-building as part of Viksit Bharat – Viksit Andhra.

Naidu, whose Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is a key ally of BJP-led NDA at the Centre, also thanked Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Heavy Industries and Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy for their constant support and positive response.

“The Vizag Steel Plant is more than just a factory – it stands as a monument to the struggles and spirit of the people of Andhra Pradesh, holding a special place in the hearts of all, especially the people of Vizag. This was not merely an election promise; it was a deeply personal commitment we were determined to honour. Good days ahead for Andhra Pradesh,” added Naidu.

State Information Technology and Human Resources Minister Nara Lokesh also welcomed the Centre’s decision.

“Andhra Pradesh today stands vindicated for voting NDA to power. The state’s pride and crown jewel, the Vizag Steel Plant, will be revived and revitalized with a special package of Rs 11,440 crore, approved by the Prime Minister,” he posted on X.

Lokesh, who is the son of Chief Minister Naidu, said Naidu strived to keep his election promise to save the ailing steel plant from closing down.

“All credit must go to Honourable Prime Minister Modi Ji for accepting our request and offering a major boost to the plant, which will provide direct and indirect employment to lakhs of people while playing a key role in nation-building as part of Viksit Bharat – Viksit Andhra,” he wrote.

He also thanked Union Ministers Sitharaman and Kumaraswamy for their firm support. “Armed with wings of steel, Andhra Pradesh will soar to new heights, transforming millions of lives for the better,” he added.

‘Waqf Bill will benefit Muslims, no threat to religious sites,’ says Shahabuddin Razvi

New Delhi, April 4 (IANS) Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi, the National President of All India Muslim Jamaat, expressed his support for the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, stating that it would significantly benefit Muslims and ensure the betterment of their socio-economic conditions.

He praised the passage of the bill in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and thanked the Modi government.

Maulana Shahabuddin, giving his first reaction to passage of bill, said, “The Waqf Amendment Bill does not harm common Muslims, it will benefit them. The only ones who stand to lose are the Waqf land mafias who have illegally occupied valuable land. Common Muslims will not be affected by this.”

He further stated that the bill is aimed at protecting the interests of the poor and vulnerable sections of the Muslim community.

The Maulana explained that the revenue generated from Waqf land would be used to improve the socio-economic status of impoverished Muslims, particularly those unable to afford quality education for their children.

“The income from Waqf land will be used for the benefit of poor Muslims, helping children from low-income families get a better education, and assisting orphans and widows in their development,” he said.

Maulana Shahabuddin assured that the funds would be used according to the intention of the Waqf and aimed at opening schools, colleges, madrasas, and orphanages to uplift the educational and social standing of underprivileged Muslims.

Addressing concerns about the impact on religious sites, Maulana Shahabuddin stated, “The Waqf Amendment Bill poses no threat to religious sites. Mosques, madrasas, Eidgahs, cemeteries, and shrines will remain unaffected. The government will not interfere with these religious institutions in any way.”

He further cautioned the Muslim community against falling prey to misleading political narratives, urging them not to be swayed by political figures seeking to exploit the situation for their own gain.

“Some politicians are misleading Muslims for their own interests. I appeal to the Muslim community to not fall for their provocations,” he added.

In the early hours of Friday, the Rajya Sabha approved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, with a majority of 128 votes against 95, following a heated debate. The Bill had been passed in the Lok Sabha just a day earlier, after nearly 12 hours of intense discussions.

Drawing a parallel to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) controversy, Maulana Shahabuddin recalled how political leaders misled the Muslim community, causing unwarranted fear that Muslims would lose their citizenship.

“When the CAA law was introduced, Muslims were misled into believing that their citizenship would be revoked. However, after its implementation, it became clear that no Muslim in India lost their citizenship, and instead, many were granted citizenship,” he stated.

Trouble for Shivakumar: I am ready to become K’taka Cong President, says Minister Rajanna

Bengaluru, Feb 14 (IANS) In a move that is sure to send alarm bells ringing in Karnataka Congress, Cooperation Minister K.N. Rajanna, a close confidante of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah declared that he is ready to become the President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), a post presently held by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.

The development is expected to compel Dy CM Shivakumar and his supporters to react.

Sources suggest that though CM Siddaramaiah and Dy CM Shivakumar have presented a united front till now, this move has all the possibilities of triggering an open fight between the two senior leaders.

After camping in New Delhi for three days and meeting AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, Minister Rajanna while addressing a press conference in Delhi declared that if the high command gives an opportunity, he is willing to tender his resignation from his post and assume the responsibility of the party President in Karnataka.

“We are not demanding a change of state President. After the Congress party’s victory in the state Assembly elections, AICC National General Secretary and MP, K.C. Venugopal had issued a press release clearly mentioning that Siddaramaiah would take over the post of the CM and Shivakumar would be the Deputy Chief Minister,” Rajanna stated.

“The press statement maintained that Shivakumar would continue as the KPCC President till the Parliamentary elections. Now, we are asking why has the high command not replaced him till now?” Rajanna questioned.

Talking about the demand for a Dalit CM, Minister Rajanna asked what was wrong with seeking a Dalit Chief Minister?

“Dalits, other communities and minorities can demand the post of the CM. The decision of the high command is final in this regard and we will abide by it,” he added.

“We will put forth our demands before the high command, we will not take the help of the Opposition parties,” he claimed.

Minister for PWD Satish Jarkiholi had met the high command and reminded them of their past announcement to replace Shivakumar as the state chief.

Home Minister G. Parameshwara is likely to visit New Delhi next week.

Sources revealed that CM Siddaramaiah’s supporters have strategised to build pressure on the high command systematically through visits of ministers one after the other.

The camp is miffed with gag orders and strict directions not to conduct meetings of like-minded ministers and MLAs.

Dy CM Shivakumar is yet to react to the development.
