Karnataka Home Minister meets Union Minister Somanna, discusses pending projects

Bengaluru, June 9 (IANS) Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara met the Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, V. Somanna, on Monday and discussed several projects pending with the Central government.

Speaking to reporters at his home office here, Parameshwara, who is the Tumakuru district in charge Minister, stated that during the meeting he had emphasised the construction of a welcome arch on the National Highway in Tumakuru and submitted a request.

Since Tumakuru city is located next to the National Highway, travellers often don’t realise its presence, he said, adding that constructing a welcome arch would make it noticeable.

He informed that they had secured Rs 5 crore from Smart City funds for the construction of a welcome arch on the National Highway in Tumakuru. However, the local director of the National Highway had informed them that it was not possible without Central government approval.

Parameshwara added that since Union Minister Somanna is their local MP, he has requested him to convey the appeal to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and help obtain the necessary approval. If approval is granted, they will construct a welcome arch at the entrance of Tumakuru.

He mentioned that many central schemes are needed for their district. Numerous drinking water projects fall under the purview of the Central government, and he discussed these with the Union Minister.

Regarding the Tumakuru Metro project, Parameshwara stated that Somanna has already given a positive reply in this regard. Parameshwara maintained that he would discuss it after seeing the state government’s decisions. Somanna has stated that a Metro is essential for Tumakuru. He also expressed hope for the suburban rail project, adding that it wouldn’t be wrong if both projects were implemented.

“Tumakuru is growing very rapidly. It has developed an industrial hub spanning 20,000 acres. Many people are requesting an expansion of Tumakuru. An assessment is underway regarding this. Tumakuru is 70 kilometres from Bengaluru. Including it within the Greater Bengaluru area would be beneficial for development. He stated that they would also submit a proposal in this regard,” Parameshwara stated.

Regarding the controversial Hemavathi Canal issue, Parameshwara stated that he has advised against protests and that a meeting has been requested. He would speak with the Irrigation Minister about this and then decide on convening a meeting.

“I am truly grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I will work with dedication and honesty, and I owe my success to my parents, especially my mother, who always inspired me.”

Recruits from Haryana’s Panchkula were equally joyous and jubilant on receiving their appointment letters.

Anjali, who received an appointment letter from the postal department, expressed her joy, saying, “I am overjoyed to receive the appointment letter. This is a new chapter in my life, and I thank the Prime Minister for this opportunity.”

Similarly, Abhinav, who was selected for ITBP, and Deeksha Sharma, who cleared the SBI exam for the post of Junior Associate, also thanked the Prime Minister for their appointments.

The Rozgar Mela, a significant initiative by the government, aims to fulfil Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to prioritising employment generation. By offering meaningful job opportunities, the initiative empowers youth to actively participate in nation-building and secure their future.

Manipur on alert to prevent infiltrators from B’desh: CM Biren Singh

Imphal, Jan 23 (IANS) Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Thursday said that the state on its eastern side has been facing illegal infiltration problems from Myanmar, adding an alert is also being maintained in the state’s western as well as southern regions to block the illegal entry of people from the neighbouring country.

The Chief Minister said that Manipur has an inter-state border (204 km) with Assam. He said that Assam along with Tripura have also been facing infiltration problems from Bangladesh.

“If Assam could not detect the illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh, these migrants might enter into Manipur,” Biren Singh told the media.

Assam and Tripura share a 263 km and 856 km border with Bangladesh, respectively. However, most parts of the international frontiers of the two states have been fenced off, but some patches still remain unfenced.

The Chief Minister said that besides the security forces, indigenous people in general must be alerted about the illegal infiltration from across the border.

Giving a stern warning against those people spreading wrong information and rumours, he said that appropriate strict action would be taken as per law against those people spreading hate speeches, false and fabricated information and narratives through the social media.

“No one has the right to disturb society, individuals and any family by spreading hate speeches, false and fictitious information through the social media,” Biren Singh said, adding that the government would not tolerate any irresponsible statements and views on social media.

The Chief Minister announced that with the improvement of the law and order situation in the state, the state government has resumed the “Go to Hills” mission to take the administration to the door steps of the people.

He said, on Wednesday, the state cabinet meeting was held in the tribal inhabited Tamenglong district, and with the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, various projects worth around Rs 300 crore have been announced.

“The state’s Tamenglong district was once the most backward district and now one of the most developed districts in the country,” the Chief Minister claimed.

Biren Singh, who holds the Home portfolio, said that as part of the government’s “war against drugs”, Manipur Police along with paramilitary and other security forces have regularly been destroying illegal poppy cultivation, mostly in the hilly areas.

Ahmedabad hospital scam: Gujarat Medical Council suspends licenses of two doctors

Ahmedabad, Feb 19 (IANS) Gujarat Medical Council (GMC) has taken strict action against two doctors involved in the Khyati Hospital scam in Ahmedabad and suspended their medical licenses for a period of three years. The decision was taken during the General Body meeting of the Gujarat Medical Council.

Sources said that the GMC meeting concluded with the decision to suspend the medical licenses of Dr. Sanjay Muljibhai Patoliya (M.B.B.S., M.S. Surgery) and Dr. Shaileshkumar Amrutlal Anand (M.B.B.S., D.C.M.). The suspension was imposed under Section 22(1)(b)(i) of the Gujarat Medical Council Act, 1967, considering the seriousness of the case from a public health perspective. Both doctors have been ordered to surrender their licenses to the GMC immediately.

The Khyati Multispeciality Hospital had organised a medical camp in Kadi under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) in which angiographies were performed on 19 persons who did not require the procedure and stents were implanted in their hearts during the medical camp.

The malpractice came to light following the deaths of two patients, Nagarbhai Senma (59) and Mahesh Barot (45), after unnecessary angioplasty procedures in November 2024.

Subsequent investigations uncovered additional deaths linked to the hospital’s fraudulent activities, raising the death toll to nine.

Authorities have arrested several individuals, including the hospital’s CEO, Chirag Rajput, and medical director, Dr. Sanjay Patoliya. The prime accused, hospital director Kartik Patel, was apprehended at Ahmedabad airport after a period of absconding.

Authorities have warned that further legal actions may follow as the investigation into the scam continues.

Khyati Multispeciality Hospital organised medical camps in rural areas, such as Borisana village in Mehsana district, under the guise of providing free health check-ups.

During these camps, hospital staff misdiagnosed healthy individuals with severe cardiac conditions, convincing them to undergo unnecessary procedures like angioplasty. Investigations revealed that even young and asymptomatic patients, including an 18-year-old, were subjected to these invasive treatments.

The hospital exploited the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), a government scheme offering health insurance coverage up to Rs 5 lakh. By performing unwarranted procedures, Khyati Hospital fraudulently claimed substantial amounts from the scheme.

Over 18 months, the hospital amassed approximately Rs 11 crore, with 70 per cent of this revenue derived from PM-JAY beneficiaries.
