Wheat procurement in UP crosses 10.27 lakh metric tonnes in 2025–26

Lucknow, June 19 (IANS) Wheat procurement in Uttar Pradesh crossed a new milestone of ten lakh metric tonnes for the Rabi season in 2025-26, a government spokesman said on Thursday. An estimated two lakh farmers sold wheat at the state government-operated mobile procurement centers – marking a first of its kind initiative.

Surpassing last year’s 9.31 lakh metric tonnes, the state government procured over 10.27 lakh metric tonnes, this season and the rise in figures has largely been attributed to Yogi Adityanath government’s decision to extend procurement through mobile centres, that reached deep into villages.

Wheat procurement for the Rabi marketing season (2025–26) began on March 17 and concluded on June 15. The process was carried out through 5,853 procurement centres across the state.

“More than two lakh farmers sold over 10.27 lakh metric tonnes of wheat to government agencies and payment of about Rs 2,508.26 crore has been disbursed directly to the farmers,” said the government in a statement.

As per the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directive, procurement centres remained open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. even during holidays. Senior officials of the Food and Civil Supplies department actively visited villages and maintained communication with farmers. On Sundays as well, officers continued wheat procurement through mobile centres, ensuring farmers faced no disruption in the process.

The Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat was fixed at Rs 2,425 per quintal for 2025–26, up from Rs 2,275 in the previous season – thus marking a rise of Rs 150, as fixed by the Centre, which in turn further benefitted the farmers.

Payments to farmers were processed within 48 hours via the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. Also, the mobile procurement units enabled doorstep wheat procurement from farmers in remote villages.

Hindu groups in Bhopal call for protest against ‘love-jihad’ today

Bhopal, May 2 (IANS) Multiple social organisations working for communities have called for a collective state-wide protest against growing cases of ‘love-jihad’ in Madhya Pradesh on Friday.

A protest will be organised at least 20 places in Bhopal alone where an alleged ‘love-jihad’ case came to the fore that sparked controversy, prompting state administration for strict action the preparators.

Priyanka Mishra, a memeber of ‘Sakal Hindu Samaj’, said that the protest will be organised to demand strict punishment for those targeting Hindu girls, raping them and forcing them for religious conversions.

“We have requested for support from multiple Hindu organisations and have also appealed people from the community to raise their voice against love-jihad. Hindu girls, even those are minors are being targeted, which need to be stopped,” Mishra said.

After a nexus involved operating ‘love-jihad’ was unearthed in Bhopal, in which three people have been arrested and an Special Investigation Team has been formed to investigate the matter, politicians from the BJP, including Ministers, have raised their concern on this issue.

Senior BJP leader and State’s Urban Development Minister, Kailash Vijayvargiya said on Thursday that the state government needs to come with a strict law against ‘love-jihad’ as early as possible, otherwise situation will be out of control.

“Every day a Hindu girl is becoming victim of love-jihad in Bhopal alone. It’s a serious issue, therefore, I would suggest leaders that they should not do only politics but work for creating awareness in their respective constituencies,” Vijayvargiya said during a press conference.

Meanwhile, BJP MP from Bhopal, Alok Sharma, demanded that those involved targeting Hindu girls and raping them, should be sterilised.

He said that a strong nexus is operating in Madhya Pradesh where Hindu girls are being targeted.

Another BJP Minister Vishvas Sarang said that the state government will soon run a campaign in schools and colleges to make the girl students aware about “love-jihad”.

He made this remark after several girl students were allegedly sexually assaulted and blackmailed in Bhopal a few days ago.

Two accused have been arrested in connection with raping and blackmailing girls from a private college under false pretence of love.

“The state government would initiate a plan to educate the girls about the nexus of love jihad. After the campaign, the girls will be able to freely converse with their female teachers and raise their issues,” Minister Sarang, who is an MLA from Bhopal, said.

Talking to media persons, the Minister also added that the state government has formed an SIT to probe the matter, and those involved in the crime would be given exemplary punishment.

“We have to protect our daughters from love-jihad, it can happen through awareness among the girls students and their parents. Meanwhile, the girls’ parents should be alert and communicate with their daughters,” he said.

Decision on UCC rollout will be taken at the right time: Haryana CM

Chandigarh, Jan 27 (IANS) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Monday said people wanted the Universal Civil Code (UCC) to be implemented across the country and a decision on its rollout in the state will be taken at the right time.

Responding to a media query on the UCC implementation in the neighbouring and BJP-ruled Uttarakhand, becoming the first state to implement it, BJP leader and second-time Chief Minister said, “The whole country is serious about UCC. People want it to be implemented across the country,” adding, “The decision will be taken on the UCC at the right time.”

Listing out achievements of his government in the first 100 days of the party’s third consecutive helm, Saini told the media here, he said, “We are supplying water to Delhi from Sonipat. You can get it checked; anyone can come and verify the quality of water we are providing.”

He was responding to a question on AAP leader and former Chief Minister’s claims that the BJP government in Haryana has been sending toxic water through the Yamuna to Delhi.

On the occasion, Saini digitally inaugurated 324 creche centres to mark the completion of 100 days of the third term of the government.

He said that the government has issued appointment letters to 25,000 youths as soon as he took office. These recruitments were done before the Assembly elections, but due to the Model Code of Conduct, the Election Commission had put a stop to it.

The Chief Minister said his government “is working with the speed of three times.” “We made 240 promises to the people in our Sankalp Patra (assembly election manifesto), out of which 18 resolutions have been fulfilled and the work is going on rapidly to implement six other promises,” he said.

“Fifty more resolutions have been sent for administrative approval,” Saini was categorically clear in saying.

Taking a jibe at the neighbouring Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, he said the government has almost two years left of its tenure, but it has not even bothered to implement its election manifesto.

The Chief Minister said that we have started organizing the samadhan shivirs to redress the grievances of the people.

“We have resolved 45,000 public complaints in 100 days on the Samadhan portal,” he said.

On procurement of crops on the minimum support price (MSP), the Chief Minister said Haryana is the first state in the country which is buying 24 crops at MSP.

“Not only this, the money of the farmers is sent to their account within 48 hours of selling the crop,” he added.

UP Guv calls on MP counterpart, discusses sickle cell awareness

Bhopal, May 29 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel called on her counterpart and Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai C. Patel at the Raj Bhawan in Bhopal on Thursday.

Madhya Pradesh’s Governor Patel gave a warm welcome to Anandiben Patel, and presented a special cover on sickle cell awareness prepared by the Department of Posts to her counterpart.

Sickle Cell awareness programme, an initiative launched by the Central government, is being carried out under the supervision of Governor Mangubhai C. Patel in Madhya Pradesh.

Governor Mangubhai C. Patel holds meetings at different intervals to review the progress in the ongoing fight against Sickle Cell disease in tribal communities in the state, and issues necessary directions to the officials working on it.

Anandibai Patel was on a tour in Madhya Pradesh to inaugurate a handicraft exhibition at Bhopal Haat.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav was also present at the event as a special guest.

While addressing the gathering on this occasion, the Uttar Pradesh Governor suggested that state governments should support inter-state travel for artisans.

Citing the example of the yarn bank set up in Maheshwar in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh, she stressed the importance of ensuring raw materials are easily accessible near artisans’ workplaces.

“Sensitivity from government officials, a cooperative attitude, and quick resolution of artisan issues can significantly boost the handicraft sector,” Governor Anandiben Patel said.

She also appreciated Madhya Pradesh’s efforts in promoting self-help groups and girls’ education.
