NDA set to secure massive victory in Bihar, says Chhattisgarh Dy CM

Raipur, June 20 (IANS) Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao on Friday exuded confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will return to power in Bihar with a resounding majority in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Speaking to IANS, Arun Sao said, “The direction in which Bihar is progressing today is a testament to the transformative leadership of the NDA. Under the stewardship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Bihar has seen a dramatic shift in both development and governance. Those who once looted and ruined the state are now anxious and nervous because the people are choosing progress over propaganda.”

He further lauded the Centre’s proactive foreign policy and rapid response in times of global crises.

“Whether it was the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the COVID-19 pandemic, or the ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran, the Modi-led government has consistently safeguarded Indian citizens abroad.

“The ‘Operation Sindhu’, aimed at evacuating Indians from Iran, is already underway, demonstrating the government’s commitment to every Indian, whether at home or overseas,” Sao added.

Meanwhile, political turbulence continues in the Mahagathbandhan camp. With Assembly polls scheduled for October–November, internal strife over seat-sharing has begun to surface.

The alliance, comprising the Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and Left parties, appears fractured over key issues like candidates and the choice of a chief ministerial face.

The Congress has refrained from publicly endorsing RJD scion Tejashwi Yadav as the alliance’s CM candidate, fueling speculation of a deeper rift.

Adding further political momentum, PM Modi is on a two-day tour of Bihar, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh on June 20–21. He is expected to lay the foundation stone and inaugurate multiple development projects in Siwan, followed by a public address.

As the election drumbeats grow louder, Bihar is poised for a high-stakes political battle, with both the NDA and the Opposition sharpening their strategies for a decisive contest.

“Odisha, too, shares this spirit. Our state is home to the magnificent Jagannath Temple in Puri, a place that attracts pilgrims from across the country, much like Kashi. The Rath Yatra, our iconic chariot festival, mirrors the grand spiritual traditions seen in Tamil Nadu’s temple processions. Our classical Odissi dance and Tamil Nadu’s Bharatanatyam both speak the language of devotion and storytelling, transcending barriers of region and language,” added Majhi.

The Odisha Chief Minister said that the Kashi Tamil Sangamam is a bridge between the North and South, a celebration of shared traditions and cultural harmony.

He stated that this cultural integration is what makes India a truly unique and vibrant nation. Majhi thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath and congratulated the organisers for their effort to bring together the cultural essence of Kashi and Tamil Nadu.

He expressed confidence that this exchange of ideas, art, and spirituality will continue to inspire future generations of the country.

“Let us take this spirit of unity and understanding forward. Let the Ganga and the Cauvery, the Jagannath Temple and the Meenakshi Amman Temple, the Odissi and the Bharatanatyam, and the wisdom of our saints continue to guide us toward harmony and progress,” he said.

CM Majhi on Monday offered prayers at the famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi. He also paid a visit to Sarnath, where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon, near Varanasi of Uttar Pradesh.

Jharkhand poll officials undergo training on roll revision, grievance handling

New Delhi, May 19 (IANS) A special training is being conducted for Jharkhand election officials to hone their skills related to addressing public objections on revision of electoral rolls, an official said on Monday.

Additionally, participants will receive practical training on the Voter Helpline App (VHA) and the IT tools. The trainees will also be provided technical demonstrations and training of EVMs and VVPATs, including the conduct of mock polls, said the official.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India Gyanesh Kumar inaugurated the two-day capacity-building programme for frontline election functionaries from Jharkhand at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), New Delhi, said an official statement.

The participants, numbering 402, include DEOs (District Election Officers) and EROs (Electoral Registration Officers), Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and BLO Supervisors, said an official statement.

Over the past three months, ECI has trained over 3,000 such participants from across the country at IIIDEM.

In his inaugural address, CEC Gyanesh Kumar commended the exemplary hard work and dedication demonstrated by the participants at the grassroots level in Jharkhand during the enrolment of electors.

The CEC also exhorted the participants, who will be familiarised with the provisions of first and second appeals under Sections 24(a) and 24(b) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 (RP Act 1950), to make the electors aware of these provisions.

It may be recalled that the first and second appeals against the final electoral rolls can be made with the District Collector/Executive Magistrate and the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the State/UT, respectively.

No appeals were filed from Jharkhand after the completion of the Special Summary Revision (SSR) exercise as of January 6-10, 2025.

Playing a key role in ensuring correct and updated electoral rolls, the participants are being trained to function strictly as per the Representation of People Act 1950, 1951, Registration of Electors Rules 1960, Conduct of Election Rules, 1961 and the instructions issued by the ECI from time to time, the statement said.

The curriculum of the programme includes interactive sessions, role plays, simulating house-to-house surveys, case studies, and hands-on exercises for filling Forms 6, 7 and 8.

BIMSTEC states eye action plan against cyber crimes

New Delhi, Jan 24 (IANS) Aiming to build a resilient cyberspace in the region, BIMSTEC member states propose to implement an action plan in the next five years for cyber incident response and protection of critical information infrastructures, an official said on Friday.

The decision on formulating the action plan was taken at the Second Meeting of the BIMSTEC Expert Group on Cyber Security Cooperation, organised here by the National Security Council Secretariat, according to an official statement.

The action plan will cover mechanisms for the exchange of cyber-related information, cybercrime, protection of critical information infrastructures, cyber incident response and international developments related to cyber norms.

The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is a regional organisation established on June 6, 1997 with the signing of the Bangkok Declaration.

The Second Meeting of the BIMSTEC Expert Group was held on January 21, carrying forward the agenda and momentum built at the First BIMSTEC Experts Group Meeting on Cyber Security hosted by India in 2022 in New Delhi.

The main objective of the BIMSTEC Expert Group meeting was to formulate an “Action Plan” which will bolster coordination and collaboration amongst member states for strengthening cyber security in the use of ICTs.

Significant exchanges during the second meeting included the BIMSTEC CERT-TO-CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) cooperation mechanism, Cybercrime Cooperation Framework amongst the Law Enforcement agencies and capacity building programmes on cyber security in the region.

During the various sessions at the second meeting of the BIMSTEC Expert Group on Cyber Security Cooperation, India also made presentations about its initiatives on the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) on ‘Cyber Hygiene for school children’.

The meeting agreed that the action plan’s implementation will be a major step towards strengthening cyber security cooperation in BIMSTEC, the statement said.

It said that with these steps, BIMSTEC countries can work together to create a more secure and resilient cyberspace in the region.
