Mumbai, March 26 (IANS) Kunal Kamra’s comedy case took a new turn on Wednesday, as music company T-Series issued a copyright infringement notice over the use of song ‘Bholi Si Surat Aankhon Masti’ from the film ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’.

He took to his X account and shared a screenshot of copyright infringement notice sent by T-series. Along with the screenshot he wrote “Hello @TSeries,stop being a stooge. Parody & Satire comes under fair use Legally. I haven’t used the lyrics or the original instrumental of the song. If you take this video down every cover song/dance video can be taken down. Creators, please take a note of it. Having said that every monopoly in India is nothing short of Mafia so please watch/download this special before it’s taken down. FYI – T- Series I stay in Tamil Nadu.”

For the unversed, comedian Kunal Kamra performed a show a few days ago at the Habitat Studio in Mumbai. During the show, Kunal Kamra sang a parody song and referred to the Deputy CM of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, as a ‘Gaddar’ (traitor).

The controversy snowballed when Kunal Kamra shared the same video on X account.

While Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress leaders came out in support of Kunal Kamra, the Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction found it in bad taste and retaliated by attacking Habitat Studio with hammers and other tools.

Following the incident, the Mumbai Police issued a summon on Tuesday for the comedian to record his statement in connection with the case registered against him. According to police sources, a team from Khar police station delivered the summons to Kamra’s residence in Mumbai, where his parents reside. However, as Kamra is currently out of Mumbai, the police sent the summons through WhatsApp.

On Tuesday, Kangana Ranaut also reacted to Kunal Kamra’s remark and said “The way he was making fun of me and somewhere, the incident that was done to me illegally, he was making fun of that. I will not connect that incident with this incident at all. The person who is a part of the government or is in power, the person who has it, his honour is everything. You are defaming him in the name of comedy. You are insulting him. You are disregarding his work. Shinde ji used to drive a rickshaw once upon a time. Today he has come so far on his own.”

Los Angeles, April 29 (IANS) After a stellar track record at the Cannes Film Festival, the Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia has now become a part of the jury at the festival.

The Cannes Film Festival has put together a powerful jury for its 78th edition, including Halle Berry, Jeremy Strong and Payal Kapadia, reports ‘Variety’.

Mixing actors, filmmakers and authors, the jury will also comprise of South Korean filmmaker Hong Sangsoo, Italian actress Alba Rohrwacher, French-Moroccan writer Leila Slimani, as well as Congolese director, documentarist and producer Dieudo Hamadi, as well as Mexican filmmaker and producer Carlos Reygadas.

As previously announced, Juliette Binoche will preside over the jury, succeeding Greta Gerwig who handed out the Palme d’Or to Sean Baker’s ‘Anora’.

As per ‘Variety’, both Strong and Kapadia were at Cannes last year, in competition. Strong presented Ali Abbasi’s ‘The Apprentice’ in which he starred as Roy Cohn, while Kapadia was there with her fiction debut, ‘All We Imagine as Light’ which won the Grand Prize.

Berry became the first African-American woman to win best actress at the Oscars for her performance in Marc Forster’s ‘Monster’s Ball’. She directed her first film, ‘Bruised’, in 2020, and she has co-produced some of the films she stars in, most recently Alexandre Aja’s ‘Never Let Go’.

Rohrwacher is a Cannes regular. She’s presented several films in competition, notably ‘The Wonders’ and ‘Happy as Lazzaro’ and ‘La Chimera’ directed by her sister Alice Rohrwacher, along with Matteo Garrone’s ‘Tale of Tales’ and Nanni Moretti’s ‘Tre Piani’. Sangsoo is another Cannes fixture. He presented four films in Competition and four films in the Un Certain Regard section. Hamadi presented his film ‘Downstream to Kinshasa’ at Cannes in 2020.

Reygadas, meanwhile, has been at the festival many times, starting in 2005 with his second film ‘Battle in Heaven’ and he won best director with ‘Post Tenebras Lux’ in 2012. He’s also co-produced films by Amat Escalante, Dea Kulumbegashvili, Christine Haroutounian and Hilal Baydarov. Reygadas is currently working on his next film, ‘Wake of Umbra’. Slimani is a renowned book author who has been tied to the film world through her books.

Mumbai, Dec 19 (IANS) As Ankita Lokhande celebrates her 40th birthday today, her close friend and Sushant Singh Rajput’s sister, Shweta Singh Kirti, shared a heartfelt message.

Shweta expressed that her bhai’s love and blessings are always with Ankita. In response to Ankita’s birthday post, SSR’s sister took to the comments section to wish the actress, commenting, “A very happy birthday, my dear. Hope you always stay happy and healthy. Bhai’s love and blessings are always with you too.”

Through her post, the ‘Pavitra Rishta’ actress gave fans a glimpse of a spiritual start to her birthday. Ankita shared pictures where she can be seen performing a pooja with her husband Vicky Jain and family members. In the caption, Ankita wrote, “And the birthday has just begun with love, laughter, and blessings. Happy birthday to me.”

Ankita Lokhande and Shweta Singh Kirti share a strong bond and frequently support each other on social media. During Ankita’s stint on Bigg Boss 17, Shweta extended her support after Ankita faced online criticism for discussing the late actor on the reality show. Shweta hit back at trolls who accused Ankita of using the sympathy card by repeatedly mentioning Sushant Singh Rajput in the house.

For those unaware, Ankita Lokhande and Sushant Singh Rajput were in a relationship for seven years. They first met on the set of the TV show “Pavitra Rishta”, where their love blossomed. Despite their eventual breakup, Ankita has remained close to Sushant’s family, particularly his sister Shweta.

On the work front, Ankita Lokhande became a household name for her portrayal of Archana in Ekta Kapoor’s popular show “Pavitra Rishta.” In 2019, she made her film debut with Kangana Ranaut’s directorial venture “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.” She also appeared in the films “Baaghi 3” and “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.” In 2023, she participated in the reality show “Bigg Boss 17.”

Lokhande was last seen in “Laughter Chefs” with Vicky Jain as a contestant.
