Baseless and fabricated: Haryana CM on Punjab AAP’s allegations against him

Chandigarh, Feb 13 (IANS) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday said all allegations made by an Aam Aadmi Party legislator of Punjab against him are “baseless and fabricated”.

“AAP is making such statements to hide its own failures,” he said.

He alleged AAP first showed dreams to the people of Delhi and deceived them. Later, in Punjab it made promises that remain unfulfilled, causing distress among the people there.

The Chief Minister told the media in Delhi that the people of Punjab first voted for the Congress, but the Congress betrayed them. Later, they voted for AAP, which he described as a “mega-deception”.

He claimed law and order in Punjab “is in poor condition and farmers are facing severe hardships”.

Referring to flood compensation, he said in Punjab, AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal spoke of giving Rs 20,000 as compensation to farmers but in Gujarat he claimed that Rs 50,000 had been given to Punjab farmers.

CM Saini termed this as misleading farmers and reiterated that the MLA’s allegations are factually incorrect and aimed at hiding shortcomings.

He accused AAP of indulging in pressure politics in Punjab and said the party should fulfill its promises made to the public.

Responding to a question related to Punjab, CM Saini said, “Punjab is like home. Whenever I am invited to Punjab, I visit there.”

He added “Punjab is the land of the Gurus, and it is a matter of pride that the Gurus also blessed the land of Haryana with their presence.”

The Chief Minister’s assertions come a day after Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-ruling legislator Narinder Kaur Bharaj accused the BJP of luring her with party ticket and fulfillment of any demand under ‘Operation Lotus’.

She alleged that the Haryana Chief Minister invited her for a closed-door meeting.

“The BJP is running ‘Operation Lotus’ across the country to topple elected governments. A few days ago, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini tried to contact me. He tempted me with a BJP ticket from Sangrur and said that whatever demand I had would be fulfilled. He also offered a closed-door meeting,” Kaur told the media here.

Bengal: Two arrested in Murshidabad in fake AADHAR card scam case

Kolkata, May 17 (IANS) Police have arrested two cops in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district on Saturday in connection with a racket engaged in the arrangement of fake AADHAR cards for illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Sanaullah Sheikh (32) and Anwar Rahman (30). They were arrested from Baromasia village under the Sagarpara police station. The business of arranging fake AADHAR cards was being operated from a shop owned by Sheikh.

Two fingerprint scanners, two laptops, one printer, two mobile phones, and three fake AADHAR cards have been recovered from their possession.

Speaking to the media persons on Saturday, the sub-division police office of Domkol, Subham Bajaj, said that in the face of interrogation, the arrested accused have admitted their involvement in the racket for arranging fake AADHAR cards.

He had also warned that common people should be careful about approaching any centre claiming to be a place for the creation of new AADHAR cards. “Only approach the authorised AADHAAR enrolment centres for preparing new AADHAR cards,” said Bajaj.

During the last few months, the sleuths of both Kolkata Police and West Bengal have launched major crackdown operations against rackets engaged in arranging fake Indian identity documents, including Indian passports for illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators.

Under special scanner on this count are the Indo-Bangladesh bordering districts in West Bengal, like Murshidabad.

The cops investigating the fake Indian identity document rackets have identified a specific pattern in the operations of such rackets in this particular chain of crime.

Any infiltrator illegally crossing over to the Indian territory, contacting the local agents, and showing willingness to pay out hefty amounts for getting fake Indian identity documents is first provided with safe shelters at the different villages adjacent to the borders with Bangladesh in the state, both land and coastal.

Thereafter, the agents arrange for fake birth certificates and fake ration cards for them, which is the first step for making other identity documents. By the fake ration cards, other identification documents like EPIC, PAN, and AADHAAR cards are acquired. The last step is getting the fake passports based on these other fake identity documents.

Nearly 96,000 highly dangerous buildings found in Mumbai: Maha Minister

Mumbai, July 17 (IANS) Maharashtra Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai said on Thursday in the State Council that nearly 96,000 highly dangerous buildings were found during the survey conducted by the Mumbai Building Repair and Reconstruction Board.

The state government has given decisive options to relocate the tenants in these buildings, the Minister added.

He announced that the state government on June 5 has decided that tenants, who are not willing to move to the transit camps, will be given a monthly rent of Rs 20,000 each so that they can live elsewhere.

This decision has been taken with the consent of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers — Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and the concerned department.

Minister Desai was replying to queries raised by Congress MLA Bhai Jagtap, BJP MLA Prasad Lad and SHIV Sena-UBT MLA Sachin Ahir regarding the redevelopment of buildings in Mumbai.

He said that the tenants of all these high risk buildings have been asked to relocate by giving them notice from time to time.

“At present, 20,363 shelters in transit camps are available in the municipal area, of which 590 shelters are ready to be provided immediately. However, many tenants are not ready to relocate despite giving repeated notices, this is a serious matter and for this two important decisions have been taken in June 2025. The government decided that tenants who are not willing to move to the transit camp will be given a monthly rent of Rs 20,000 each, so that they can live elsewhere. This decision has been taken with the consent of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers and the concerned department,” he added.

“The second decision was taken on June 13, 2025, according to which some buildings with flats of 180 and 250 square feet will be rented for three years, which will be used as a transit camp. Meetings, awareness campaigns and direct contact will be adopted by the authorities to explain both these policies to the tenants. People from the concerned buildings should also come forward in large numbers and accept the government decisions by shifting out of high risk buildings,” the Minister said.

Regarding reconstruction of these buildings, he clarified that as per the amendment in Development Control Rule 79A, if the owner comes forward, his proposal will be approved within six months.

“If the owner does not come forward, then there is an option for the tenants to form a society and submit a proposal. And if neither of these two options happens, then under the third option, the state government will acquire the concerned land and appoint a developer through Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority to take up the work, the Minister added.

PM Modi praised me for work done abroad as part of all-party delegation: Samajwadi Party MP

New Delhi, June 11 (IANS) Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai on Wednesday revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended him for his efforts in representing India on the global stage and appreciated his contributions in the meeting with members of the all-party delegations of the Operation Sindoor outreach on their return.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi met members of the delegations, including Shashi Tharoor, Ghulam Nabi Azad, and others, at his residence in New Delhi. Rajeev Rai was part of the DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi-led delegation which visited Russia, Slovenia, Greece, Latvia, and Spain.

Speaking to IANS, Rajeev Rai, the MP from UP’s Ghosi, said: “It was our responsibility, and I appreciate that the Prime Minister found it appropriate to seek feedback from MPs who had gone abroad, even informally. I had prepared a report and brought it with me. I felt that even if I didn’t get a chance to speak, I would at least share my thoughts in writing.”

“When I gave him the letter, PM Modi said, ‘You did very well.’ I told him I simply followed what Netaji (SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav) taught us, and as (party President) Akhilesh Yadav had reminded me before leaving, ‘National interest is paramount for the Samajwadi Party.’ That sentiment guided me throughout the mission. The Prime Minister appreciated that we had also participated with full commitment.”

Rai emphasised how the Indian delegations tried to convey to foreign nations the role of Pakistan in promoting terrorism, especially at a time when Pakistan also sent out its own representatives to counter India’s claims and discuss issues like the Indus Waters Treaty.

“Whatever we said was based on facts and the wisdom passed down by our leaders. I don’t think any Pakistani leader could respond to our arguments,” Rai told IANS.

“We both got independence in 1947. While India is the world’s largest democracy, Pakistan has become the hub of terrorism. It has never had a stable civilian government. Leaders like Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif, and Imran Khan all failed to hold power for long. Pakistan is the only country where terrorism functions as an industry.”

Rai pointed out that Pakistan has been linked to almost every major terrorist attack globally and shelters many designated terrorists.

“Even Osama bin Laden was found in Pakistan. How can the world ignore this?” he added.

“I included all these points in my letter and raised them wherever I could during our interactions. I believe many people were convinced by our stance.”
