Rajasthan schools to observe Maharana Pratap’s coronation day on Feb 28

Jaipur, Feb 23 (IANS) Maharana Pratap’s Coronation Day will be observed in all government and private schools across Rajasthan on February 28, following instructions issued by the state Education Department.

The department has included the observance in the Shivira Panchang, the official academic calendar, with the objective of inspiring students by highlighting the life, courage, and legacy of the Rajput ruler Maharana Pratap.

The Directorate of Education has issued detailed guidelines to schools across the state regarding the observance of the day.

According to the instructions, the celebrations will be conducted in a manner that does not disrupt the ongoing board examination schedules for Classes 5, 8, 10, and 12.

Schools have been directed to organise special prayer assemblies featuring inspirational anecdotes from Maharana Pratap’s life, patriotic songs, and activities highlighting his contributions and leadership.

Various competitions, including essay writing, quizzes, and poster-making, will also be organised at the school level to encourage students to learn about Maharana Pratap’s courage, leadership, and patriotism.

These activities will involve students from Classes 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, and 11, ensuring that students appearing for board examinations and teachers assigned examination duties are not affected.

The decision to observe Maharana Pratap’s Coronation Day in schools was taken following a demand raised during the National Swadeshi Fair held in Chittorgarh.

Local residents and public representatives, led by Chittorgarh MP C.P. Joshi, had urged Education and Panchayati Raj Minister Madan Dilawar to introduce statewide observance of the day in schools.

Accepting the demand, the minister announced that Maharana Pratap’s Coronation Day would be observed across schools in Rajasthan to educate students about his legacy and historical significance.

Maharana Pratap was one of Rajasthan’s most revered warrior kings, known for his courage and unwavering resistance against the Mughal empire.

His stand at the Battle of Haldighati symbolised pride and sacrifice. He lived a life of hardship but never surrendered, becoming a lasting inspiration for bravery, honour, and self-respect in Indian history.

Dharmasthala case: Activist Thimarody arrested for making derogatory remarks against BJP leader BL Santhosh

Bengaluru, Aug 21 (IANS) Karnataka Police arrested activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarody on Thursday from his residence in Ujire, Udupi district, for allegedly making derogatory remarks against BJP National Organising Secretary B.L. Santhosh, amid high drama.

Thimarody has been at the forefront of the movement demanding justice for victims in the mass grave case against the Dharmasthala temple management.

According to police, he had abused B.L. Santhosh in a video, alleging that it was Santhosh who dragged the Dharmasthala temple into the mass grave case to divert the issue.

Following a complaint filed by one Rajiv Kulal at the Brahmavar police station, the police registered an FIR under Sections 196 (1), 352, and 353 (2) of the BNS Act.

Despite receiving two summons to appear for investigation, Thimarody failed to comply. In his reply to the latest notice, he stated that he would attend the inquiry only after 15 days.

On Thursday, about 30 police personnel arrived at his residence in eight vehicles and took him into custody. Other activists, including women, confronted the police and objected to the action, insisting that he should be questioned at home instead of taking him to the police station.

Since Thimarody refused to travel in a police vehicle, the police allowed him to go in his own car with cops. On the way to the station, he told reporters that the government would be responsible if anything happened to him.

“They have taken me into custody in a false case. The BJP has fabricated documents. Justice should prevail in the alleged Sowjanya gang rape and murder case reported in Dharmasthala, and the real culprits must be arrested,” he said.

Meanwhile, activist Snehamayi Krishna filed a complaint at the Dharmasthala police station against Thimarody, Girish Mattannanavar, YouTuber Sameer M.D., and Sujatha Bhat, who is also a complainant in the medical student Ananya Bhat missing case.

In his complaint, Snehamayi Krishna alleged that Sujatha Bhat lied by claiming she had a daughter named Ananya Bhat.

He said it has been proven that she does not have such a daughter. According to him, she showed a photo of a woman named Vasanthi and claimed, “This is my daughter Ananya Bhat.” He further alleged that Thimarody, Mattannanavar, and Sameer used her name to spread false allegations and collectively insulted the holy shrine.

Police sources also revealed that they have launched a hunt for YouTuber Sameer, who allegedly released videos directly accusing the Dharmasthala temple management in the mass grave case. Although police searched his residence in Jigani, Bengaluru, Sameer managed to escape.

In a separate development, a woman from Mandya claiming to be the first wife of the masked complainant in the Dharmasthala case came forward, accusing him of making false allegations for money. She stated that she married him in 1999 and lived with him for seven years, during which they had two children.

“He always lied and used to assault and cheat me. We lived in Dharmasthala for seven years, where he worked cleaning and washing bathrooms. My mother raised our children because he never took responsibility. He never mentioned anything about burying hundreds of bodies,” she said.

“I recognized him immediately when I saw him on television, just by his physical appearance. He is tarnishing the image of the temple, and nothing good will come of it,” she added.

NCEL crosses Rs 5,403 crore milestone in export of farm goods

New Delhi, Sep 26 (IANS) National Co-operative Exports Limited (NCEL), set up by the Government in 2023, has achieved the impressive milestone of exporting Rs 5,403.01 crore worth of agricultural commodities, including rice, fresh red onion, sugar, baby food, processed food, spices and tea, according to an official statement issued on Friday.

In just two years, it has built a wide membership, exported 13.49 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of agricultural produce to 28 countries, and shared profits with members. By August 2025, as many as 11,034 co-operatives have been granted membership of NCEL, including 10,793 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies and other cooperatives, the statement said.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah has urged NCEL to explore new export opportunities for sugar from co-operative sugar mills, aromatic rice from Tripura, organic cotton and coarse grains. He also highlighted the potential for partnerships with large companies to export fresh vegetables to Gulf countries and special potato varieties.

An ambitious target of Rs 2 lakh crore exports has been set for NCEL. Union Minister Shah directed that exports of all co-operative institutions should be routed through NCEL so that a turnover of about Rs 20,000–30,000 crore and net profits can flow back to the co-operatives.

He also suggested setting up NCEL offices in Africa and Myanmar for pulses imports and developing a dedicated website to help co-operative members understand global demand and showcase their supply capacity.

NCEL has achieved a net profit of Rs 122 crore with a turnover of Rs 4,283 crore for 2024-25. During 2023-24, NCEL paid a 20 per cent dividend to its member co-operatives. These achievements underscore NCEL’s potential to transform India’s co-operative movement into a global force, the statement said.

NCEL has also signed strategic agreements with 61 importers from Senegal, Indonesia and Nepal. It acts as the nodal agency for co-operative exports and signs MoUs with state and UT-level bodies.

The organisation links stakeholders to global markets and creates rural jobs through value addition, storage, packaging and transport. It promotes exports of agricultural and allied commodities at internationally benchmarked prices.

NCEL aims to take surplus produce from Indian co-operatives to global markets, ensuring better demand and fair prices. It supports exports by handling procurement, storage, processing, packaging, branding, certification and marketing.

Alongside this, it arranges finance, provides technical guidance, builds skills, develops market intelligence and links members with government schemes.

In doing so, it strengthens the capacity of co-operatives and expands their presence in international trade. Through NCEL, the cooperative model has been scaled up to the national level, enabling local produce and skills to find markets across the globe under the guiding vision of ‘Sahakar se Samriddhi’ – prosperity through co-operation, the statement explained.

NCEL has been promoted by five leading co-operatives – Indian Farmers Fertiliser Co-operative Limited (IFFCO), Krishak Bharati Co-operative Limited (KRIBHCO), National Agricultural Co-operative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED), Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF–Amul) and the National Co-operative Development Corporation (NCDC).

Ram Kadam defends Maha CM Fadnavis’ warning on noise limit violations at places of worship

Mumbai, March 12 (IANS) BJP MLA Ram Kadam defended Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis government’s commitment to enforcing strict action against those violating noise limits set for loudspeakers at places of worship in the state.

This comes after Fadnavis in the state Legislative Assembly emphasised the importance of adhering to the guidelines established by both the Central government and the judiciary.

“The use of loudspeakers in places of worship must comply with the prescribed norms,” CM Fadnavis said.

“Anyone violating these limits will face stringent consequences.”

The Chief Minister reiterated the specific rules: No loudspeaker use is permitted from 10 pm to 6 am, with permissible sound levels capped at 55 decibels during the day and 45 decibels at night.

BJP MLA Ram Kadam, speaking to IANS, defended Fadnavis’ stance, insisting that the actions were in line with respecting the judicial directive.

“The Chief Minister’s statement is not aimed at any particular community but is a reflection of the court’s decision. We have to honour and accept the verdict of the judiciary, which works for the well-being of the country,” Kadam stated.

Kadam also reacted on the controversy surrounding the Ladki Bahini Yojana, where Opposition leaders have raised concerns about the Maharashtra government’s financial support to women.

Critics have pointed out that the promised Rs 2,100 per month to women has not been disbursed, but Kadam responded saying: “The same individuals questioning us have never contributed a single rupee for the women. They’ve misused funds meant for the welfare of women. We are providing Rs 1,500, and if we continue in power, we will give even more.”

Kadam further reacted on former Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, following a Delhi court’s decision to order the filing of an FIR against him for putting up hoardings. The complaint alleged that Kejriwal and his party misused public funds to put up unauthorised hoardings in Dwarka.

“Kejriwal once portrayed himself as a champion of the people, but over time, he’s been involved in personal indulgences, like using public funds for the Sheesh Mahal,” Kadam remarked.

“It’s not hidden anymore,” he concluded.
