Bihar: Two officials arrested while accepting bribe in separate cases

Patna, Feb 24 (IANS) The Vigilance Department’s crackdown against corrupt government officials continues unabated in Bihar.

Despite frequent arrests, cases of bribery are still surfacing.

On Tuesday, vigilance teams arrested a Block Supply Officer in Samastipur and a Survey Amin in Supaul, both caught red-handed while accepting bribes.

In the first case, the Special Vigilance Bureau (SVB) arrested Rajesh Kumar Bhagat, the Block Supply Officer of Vidyapati Nagar and Ujiarpur blocks in Samastipur, while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

The complaint was filed by Ram Iqbal Singh, a resident of Maniyarpur village under Ghatho police station.

He alleged that Rajesh Kumar Bhagat was demanding a bribe in lieu of increasing the additional foodgrain allocation under the Public Distribution System (PDS).

After verification, the Vigilance Bureau found the allegations to be prima facie true.

A case was registered, and an investigation team was constituted under the leadership of Akhilesh Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Vigilance Bureau, Patna.

The accused was arrested from his rented residence near Kali Chowk under Dalsingh Sarai police station while accepting the bribe.

After interrogation, he will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court.

In another operation, the Vigilance Department arrested Vikram Kumar Ram, a Survey Amin posted in the Marauna area of Supaul, while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.

The complaint was lodged by Jaynarayan Yadav, a resident of Khorma village under the Marauna police station.

He alleged that the survey officer was demanding money to complete pending land survey work.

Following verification, the vigilance team found the complaint to be genuine.

Acting swiftly, a team from Patna reached Supaul and laid a trap.

The accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe in his rented room in Nirmali.

This operation was conducted under the leadership of Narendra Kumar, DSP, Vigilance Bureau, Patna.

After questioning, the accused was taken into custody and will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court.

As news of the arrests spread, a crowd gathered at the spot, leading to a brief commotion.

Vigilance officials later escorted the accused away after completing formal procedures.

These back-to-back arrests once again highlight the Vigilance Department’s sustained action against corruption in Bihar’s administrative machinery.

Bhopal, Oct 24 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited Bhopal’s Hamida hospital to meet the children affected by the carbide gun incident and inquire about their health on Friday night.

During the visit, the Chief Minister interacted with the medical team to enquire regarding the condition of people affected, especially children and the treatment being provided to them. He instructed doctors to ensure the best possible medical care.

Chief Minister instructed that proper treatment be provided to children and citizens affected by carbide guns in other parts of the state as well. He has also ordered that assistance be extended from the Chief Minister’s Discretionary Fund.

“The Health Department is continuously monitoring such cases. Since the manufacture and sale of deadly carbide guns are illegal, raids and investigations are being conducted at the police station level to prevent their use,” Yadav said.

The guardians of the patients admitted to Hamidia Hospital termed the use of carbide guns by their family members as unfortunate. They expressed satisfaction with the treatment provided at the hospital.

Chief Minister visited Hamida hospital after returning from Bihar, where he addressed three back-to-back election rallies throughout the day.

Principal Secretary of the Health Department, Sandeep Yadav and Commissioner of Public Relations, Deepak Kumar Saxena, were also accompanied by him during the hospital’s visit.

Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, who looks after the state’s health department, and the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state, Umang Singhar, had also visited Hamida hospital.

Meanwhile, police on Friday claimed to have seized nearly 60 carbide guns from Bhopal and arrested two suspects after several children suffered eye injuries while playing with them.

According to Dr Kavita Kumar (HoD of Eye Department in Hamidia hospital), currently six children are admitted with serious injuries, while 27 others were treated and discharged in the past three days.

Arunachal Police launch search to rescue 30 child labourers trafficked from Tripura

Agartala/Itanagar, Dec 24 (IANS) Acting on a request from Tripura Police, the Arunachal Pradesh Police have launched a search operation to trace and rescue 30 child labourers, along with a few adult workers who were allegedly taken forcibly to the state for work, officials said on Wednesday.

Officer-in-Charge of Kailashahar Police Station in Tripura’s Unakoti district, Tapas Malakar, said that after a missing persons case was registered, Tripura Police contacted their counterparts in Arunachal Pradesh seeking assistance.

“So far, Arunachal Pradesh Police have located four of the 30 labourers, and intensive efforts are underway to rescue the remaining child and adult workers,” Malakar told the media.

Family members of the children and youths lodged an FIR at the Kailashahar Police station on Tuesday, alleging that their children were being ill-treated and forced to live in inhuman conditions, leading to severe mental distress.

“The families are in deep anguish and are desperately seeking the safe and early return of their near and dear ones,” Malakar said, underscoring the humanitarian gravity of the situation.

The parents of the missing children are workers at tea gardens in Unakoti district. Meanwhile, Tripura Labour, Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy has written to Arunachal Pradesh’s Commerce and Industries, Labour and Employment Minister Nyato Dukam, seeking his intervention to facilitate the rescue of the children.

In his letter, Roy stated that around 30 child labourers, along with a few adult workers, were taken from Rangrung Tea Garden and another tea garden in Kailashahar under Unakoti district to Arunachal Pradesh after being promised wages and benefits.

However, they (child labourers) were reportedly denied their lawful entitlements by the traffickers.

The Minister further said that family members alleged the children were subjected to ill-treatment and compelled to live in inhuman conditions, causing severe mental distress and anxiety.

“In view of the seriousness of the matter and the humanitarian concerns involved, I earnestly request your kind intervention to extend all necessary assistance for the immediate rescue and safe repatriation of the child labourers to their homes in Tripura at the earliest,” Roy said in his letter.

Gujarat ranks fourth with 88 pc farmer registration on PM-Kisan portal

Gandhinagar, Feb 4 (IANS) Gujarat has completed 88 per cent of farmer registrations on the PM-Kisan portal, placing the state fourth in the country, officials said on Wednesday.

Addressing the media after the state cabinet meeting, Minister Jitu Vaghani said the registration drive, part of the Central Government’s Digital Agri Stack project, has seen substantial progress in the state.

“Under the farmer registration programme, 88 per cent of farmers’ KYC, land records, and registrations on the PM-Kisan portal have been completed by the state government,” he said.

According to the minister, a total of 59 lakh beneficiaries have registered on the Farmer Registry portal.

These figures have been officially noted by the central government, resulting in a financial grant of Rs. 206 crore to the state under Special Central Assistance.

“The completion of these registrations will support farmers in accessing benefits linked to the PM-Kisan scheme and align their land records with national digital systems,” Vaghani said.

In addition to the registration initiative, the state cabinet ratified decisions in the revenue sector aimed at regularising unauthorised land possession, a move expected to benefit farmers and landholders across Gujarat.

“The cabinet meeting confirmed the decisions taken in the revenue sector under the leadership of the Chief Minister,” Vaghani said.

He explained that the policy allows for the regularisation of land that has been regranted or is eligible for regrant but has not yet been formally regularised.

Under the new rules, landholders can regularise such land by paying 20 per cent of the current possession value. “This decision will benefit those holding land that has been regranted but for which possession fees have not been paid, those eligible for regrant but not yet regranted, and heirs of such land,” Vaghani said.

He added that individuals holding land that has been mutated but is currently under another person’s possession will also benefit from the decision. “Citizens of the state will be able to obtain legal ownership rights to their land,” he said.

Officials said the dual focus on digital registration and land regularisation forms part of Gujarat’s broader efforts to strengthen agricultural support systems and improve access to government services for farmers.
