Rajasthan HC refuses to extend Asaram’s bail, asks him to surrender by August 30

Jaipur, Aug 27 (IANS) The Rajasthan High Court on Wednesday refused to extend the interim bail of 86-year-old Asaram, who was convicted of rape and sentenced to life imprisonment in Gujarat and the desert state.

The court directed that he must surrender at Jodhpur Central Jail by 10 a.m. on Saturday. His current bail period ends on Friday.

The High Court rejected Asaram’s plea for extension of bail based on the medical report submitted by Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.

The court observed that Asaram’s health condition was not so serious as to warrant further bail.

However, the court allowed him the facility of a wheelchair and the presence of an attendant inside the jail. It also directed that if required, medical tests could be conducted at AIIMS Jodhpur.

Earlier, on August 8, the High Court had granted interim bail to Asaram until August 21 after reviewing his medical condition.

At that time, his health reports had shown high troponin levels, raising concerns about his heart condition.

He was admitted to the ICU of Jupiter Hospital in Indore at that time and later shifted to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.

The High Court then directed a medical board, including two cardiologists and one neurologist of professor rank, to evaluate his heart and neuro-related issues. The High Court then listed the matter for further hearing on August 27.

Meanwhile, the Gujarat High Court has extended Asaram’s interim bail on medical grounds until September 3.

The Gujarat HC, in its order dated August 19, cited his ICU admission and serious medical reports as the basis for the extension.

“We are inclined to grant bail to the petitioner on medical grounds. The petitioner shall not make any attempt to tamper with the evidence, shall not meet his followers,” the court had stated.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had also rejected his petition and asked him to approach the High Court instead.

Asaram also sought the suspension of the life imprisonment sentence in the rape case in Gujarat.

‘He doesn’t know the ground reality’: Tej Pratap criticises Nitish Kumar’s son

Patna, Jan 18 (IANS) RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav on Friday criticised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son after his appeal to voters to support in father in the upcoming Assembly polls, saying that he does not know the ground reality of the state.

“Nishant has no understanding of the state. He does not know about the ground reality,” Tej Pratap.

When asked by media personnel whether he would welcome Nishant Kumar into politics, Tej Pratap adopted a conciliatory tone, saying, “If a youth is moving forward in politics, then there should be no problem.”

Tej Pratap’s criticism comes amid growing political rhetoric between the RJD and JD-U as both parties prepare for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, made headlines on Friday with a significant statement in Bakhtiyarpur, Patna.

Nishant urged the people to vote for his father and JD-U.

Speaking to media, Nishant Kumar highlighted the developmental work undertaken by Nitish Kumar during his tenure as Chief Minister.

“My father has done a lot of work for the development of Bihar. People should give their vote to him and his party JDU,” Nishant said.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited his ancestral residence in Bakhtiyarpur to pay tribute to his late father, freedom fighter Ram Lakhan Singh Vaidya, along with four other freedom fighters: Shaheed Mogal Singh, Pandit Sheelbhadra Yaji, Shaheed Nathun Singh Yadav, and Dumer Singh.

The Bihar government organised a state ceremony in honour of these freedom fighters. Nitish Kumar garlanded their statues during the event as a mark of respect, emphasising the state’s commitment to recognising its historical heroes.

Nishant Kumar, who accompanied his father to the event, surprised many by addressing the media and making a direct political appeal to voters. His statement has reignited speculation about his potential entry into active politics.

They don’t know how to compete with BJP: UP Minister Anil Rajbhar slams SP

New Delhi, April 21 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Anil Rajbhar has hit back sharply at Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s recent assertion that the INDIA alliance will remain intact for the 2027 UP Assembly elections, saying that they don’t know how to compete with BJP.

Speaking to IANS, Rajbhar questioned the need for such a declaration, suggesting that it reflects internal confusion and political insecurity within the alliance.

“You fought in 2024, but there was no election after that. So who asked you to give this clarification? They don’t understand how to compete with the BJP,” Rajbhar remarked.

“They’ve already started this ‘fielding’ for the sake of their own people, for whom they go to the extremes of exploitation. They start giving such statements to ensure their own supporters remain aligned and not confused.”

The remarks came in response to Akhilesh Yadav’s statement on Sunday, where he claimed that the INDIA bloc, an alliance of opposition parties including the Samajwadi Party and Congress would continue in Uttar Pradesh through the 2027 state elections.

“The opposition’s INDIA alliance will continue till the 2027 UP Assembly elections,” Akhilesh stated, indicating a ‘prolonged’ partnership with the Congress in the state.

Rajbhar dismissed the significance of such declarations, pointing out that post-election friction between alliance partners is common.

“Who asked them if there will be a gathbandhan or not? After the Lok Sabha elections, look at what happened in Haryana, in Maharashtra… then you see them abusing each other in Delhi. The country understands all these games,” he said.

He also accused the opposition of underestimating the public.

“The misfortune of these people is that they think the people of the country are ignorant. And so they start playing these games,” he added.

Responding to criticism of Mahakumbh by the Samajwadi Party and its allies, Rajbhar defended the spiritual event and its global recognition.

“The Socialist Party and its allies are unable to digest the diversity of Sanatan Dharma and the spiritual power of India, which is now being embraced globally through the Mahakumbh,” he said.

“They don’t talk about real issues like farmers, youth, women, health, education, or law and order. They have no substance left, so they’re just roaming around making statements.” he said.
