Dularchand Yadav murder: Patna HC grants anticipatory bail to Anant Singh’s nephews

Patna, March 31 (IANS) The Patna High Court on Tuesday granted anticipatory bail to Dharmveer Singh and Karmveer Singh, nephews of Anant Singh, in connection with the murder case of Dularchand Yadav.

The bail was granted by Justice Prabhat Kumar Singh after hearing arguments from both the petitioners and the state.

Advocate Naresh Dixit represented the accused and presented their case before the court. Additional Public Prosecutor Satyendra Singh argued on behalf of the state government.

After considering submissions from both sides, the court allowed anticipatory bail to the accused, who had been absconding since the incident.

The case relates to the murder of Dularchand Yadav, a supporter of a candidate from the Jan Suraaj Party, during the Bihar Assembly elections 2025.

The incident occurred on October 30, 2025, in Basawanchak village under Barh sub-division in Patna district.

A violent clash broke out between supporters of JD(U) candidate from Mokama, Anant Singh, and those of Jan Suraaj Party candidate Piyush Priyadarshi.

During the altercation, Dularchand Yadav lost his life.

Dharmveer Singh and Karmveer Singh have been accused of forcibly dragging Dularchand Yadav out of his vehicle during the incident.

The victim’s family has alleged that he was deliberately run over and shot by the accused and their associates.

According to the post-mortem report, the death was not caused by a gunshot wound. The cause of death was attributed to cardio-respiratory failure. Injuries were consistent with a collision involving a heavy vehicle.

In the same case, Anant Singh was arrested and lodged in Beur Central Jail in Patna.

The MP-MLA court had earlier rejected his bail plea. The Patna High Court granted him bail on March 19, 2026, and he was released from jail on March 23, 2026.

With anticipatory bail granted to the two accused, further investigation and legal proceedings in the case are expected to continue.

Trinamool rejects President Murmu’s concern over lack of development for tribals in Bengal

Kolkata, March 7 (IANS) The Trinamool Congress, on Saturday, refuted the concerns raised by President Droupadi Murmu earlier in the day at a programme at Gossaipur in Darjeeling district of West Bengal over lack of development for the people of the tribal community in the state.

Addressing the ninth International Santal Conference being organised by the International Santal Council at Gossaipur, President Murmu expressed doubts on whether the people from the tribal community in West Bengal had access to the benefits under different development and welfare schemes.

Reacting to President Murmu’s observations, the Trinamool Congress, on Saturday evening, issued a statement countering her.

“It is extremely unfortunate that the President appears to be under the misinformed impression that there has been no development for Adivasi communities in Bengal. Madam, we would like to respectfully place the facts on record,” the Trinamool Congress said in a statement.

The ruling party in West Bengal explained elaborately how different welfare schemes of the state government like the Lakshmir Bhandar (the monthly financial assistance for women), Sikshashree Scholarship in the education sector, pension scheme for tribal people under Jai Johar project, introduction of facility for tribal students to pursue education in their mother language, among others, had immensely benefitted the tribal people in the state.

“These are measurable, on-ground interventions aimed at ensuring dignity, opportunity, and development for Adivasi communities across Bengal,” the Trinamool Congress said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Gautam Deb, Mayor of Trinamool Congress-run Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) in Darjeeling district, had addressed the controversy arising as to why that neither the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, nor any member of her Cabinet, met President Murmu during her official visit to West Bengal, which was against all kinds of traditions and protocols whenever the President visits a state.

“I welcomed the President (Droupadi Murmu) on behalf of the state government. The District Magistrate of Darjeeling and the Commissioner of Siliguri Metropolitan Police were also there. Earlier, when late Pranab Mukherjee was the President, I welcomed him. But I do not remember whether I was a West Bengal Minister then,” Deb said.

Rupee hits record low of 92.63 amid firm dollar, import pressures

Mumbai, March 18 (IANS) The rupee on Wednesday touched a fresh record low of 92.63 against the US dollar, amid a firming greenback and continued foreign fund outflows.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 92.42 and moved in a narrow range before weakening to its all-time low during the session.

The currency had closed at 92.37 on Tuesday.

“The Indian rupee slipped to a fresh record low as a break below the 92.50 level triggered selling pressure, exacerbated by thin dollar liquidity ahead of a bank holiday,” said Dilip Parmar, Senior Research Analyst at HDFC Securities.

Despite a backdrop of strong risk appetite and softer crude prices, the currency faced aggressive dollar demand from importers, according to Parmar.

“With geopolitical tensions stoking fears of a wider trade deficit, year-end demand remains robust. We see USD/INR facing resistance at 92.85, with support at 92.40,” he added.

Amid the ongoing West Asia conflict, the rupee has weakened by more than 1 per cent.

Echoing similar concerns, Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst (Commodity and Currency) at LKP Securities, said the currency remains under pressure due to rising import costs.

“The rupee traded sharply weaker at around 92.60, marking fresh all-time lows, as persistent pressure from a rising import bill continues to weigh on the currency. Elevated crude oil prices, coupled with shipment disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz, are increasing concerns over sustained higher import costs for India,” he said.

“The macro backdrop remains unfavourable, with crude likely to stay elevated, keeping the rupee under pressure. In the near term, the rupee is expected to trade in the range of 92.25–92.95 against the US dollar,” Trivedi added.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which tracks the greenback against a basket of six currencies, was marginally higher at 99.62.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was trading slightly lower at around $103.2 per barrel in futures trade.

In the domestic equities market, benchmark indices were trading higher, with the Sensex up 719.77 points at 76,790.61 and the Nifty rising 215.75 points to 23,796.90.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net sellers, offloading equities worth Rs 4,741.22 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data.

In the commodities market, precious metals witnessed a sharp correction. Gold declined 0.54 per cent to Rs 1,55,142, while silver fell 1.42 per cent to Rs 2,49,501.

Kejriwal seeks NOC for passport renewal, Delhi court issues notice to ED, CBI

New Delhi, May 29 (IANS) Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has moved an application seeking a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the renewal of his passport, which expired in 2018.

The plea, filed in light of the procedural requirements necessary for renewing a passport while in judicial custody, is currently under consideration by the Rouse Avenue Court.

In response, the court has issued notices to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), directing them to file their replies.

The matter is scheduled for further hearing on June 4.

Kejriwal is currently on bail in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. He secured bail from the Supreme Court almost six months after he was arrested in March 2024 on charges of alleged money laundering and corruption related to the now-scrapped policy.

His legal team told the court that since his passport had expired in 2018, it now needs to be renewed, and a court clearance is required.

During the hearing, the CBI informed the court that it was prepared to proceed with the arguments on the issue of framing of charges.

However, the agency also expressed concern over the number of petitions being filed in the case. It said that the court had already made it clear that no new petition will be filed now, yet many petitions are pending before the court, sources said.

On the same day, Kejriwal, along with the co-accused, including former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, BRS leader K. Kavitha and others, appeared before the court via video conferencing.

The proceedings marked a significant step in the excise policy case, which had seen prolonged delays.

More than two-and-a-half years after it was first registered, the corruption case linked to the Delhi excise policy scam finally progressed on May 23.

This came after months of back and forth between the prosecution and defence, particularly over scrutiny of documents. Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh resolved the issue that had stalled the case for nearly a year, even though the CBI had completed its investigation much earlier.

The delay had seen as many as 25 adjournments over the last 10 months, largely due to a list of arguments requested by the accused from the prosecution.
