Tokyo: The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency has reported that its lunar probe, the Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM), successfully landed close to its target on the moon’s surface. This achievement marks an unprecedented pinpoint landing within 100 meters of the intended location. Initial concerns arose post-landing when the probe’s solar panels faced the wrong direction, hindering electricity generation.
The lunar landing occurred just after midnight Japanese time last Saturday, solidifying Japan’s position as the fifth nation to successfully place a spacecraft on the moon. The accomplishment follows the achievements of the United States, former Soviet Union, China, and India.
