Telangana tahsildar caught accepting Rs 2 lakh bribe

Hyderabad, May 26 (IANS) Telangana’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday caught a tahsildar red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh.

T. Suchitra, Tahsildar & Executive Magistrate and Joint Sub-Registrar, Shamirpet Mandal, Medchal Malkajgiri district, had allegedly demanded a Rs 30 lakh bribe for clearing the conversion of 30 acres of agricultural land.

ACB officials said Rs 2 lakh was accepted as part payment through her private driver, V. Nagesh.

She had allegedly demanded the bribe to do the official favour of processing and approving applications for NALA conversion of 30 acres of agricultural land.

The tainted bribe amount of Rs 2 lakh was recovered from the possession of the accused officer’s private driver, the ACB said in a release.

The anti-graft agency said she performed her duty improperly and dishonestly to obtain an undue advantage.

Both were arrested and produced before the Additional Special Judge for SPE & ACB cases at Nampally for judicial remand.

The case is under investigation. The complainant’s details have been withheld for security reasons.

In another case, Kammari Brahmaiah, Mandal Surveyor of Waddepally Mandal in Jogulamba Gadwal district, was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

According to the ACB, he had demanded Rs 15,000 as a reward for conducting a survey of the land pertaining to the complainant’s parents.

Earlier, on May 6, the accused officer allegedly demanded and accepted Rs 5,000 in cash as an advance.

The tainted bribe amount of Rs 10,000 was recovered from the accused officer’s possession.

Thus, the accused officer performed his duty improperly and dishonestly to obtain undue advantage, the ACB said.

The accused officer was arrested and produced before the Additional Special Judge for SPE & ACB cases, Nampally, for judicial remand.

The case is under investigation. The details of the complainant have been withheld for security reasons, the agency said.

The ACB said that in case of any demand for a bribe by a public servant, people are requested to contact the toll-free number 1064 for action under the law.
