BJP plans countrywide celebrations on June 10 to mark Modi govt’s 12-year tenure

New Delhi, May 27 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to organise a series of events to mark 12 years of progress with people’s trust and welfare under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the day he took oath of office for the third consecutive term on June 10.

He took oath of office and secrecy as the 15th Prime Minister of India on May 26, 2014.

Thus, while Tuesday can be considered the day that the Narendra Modi-led Union government completed 12 years in power, his third term began on June 10, 2024, marking the beginning of Modi government 3.0.

The BJP is slated to celebrate the occasion at several places across the country, including the national capital.

Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, and Deputy Chief Ministers of states under National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rule will present the list of achievements under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, party functionaries said.

The roadmap for a ‘Developed India by 2047’ will also be presented before the people.

Seminars and press conferences, as well as dialogues with prominent persons from various fields are also being planned, to be held across all states in the country.

Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states are also expected to meet in Delhi on June 10 to celebrate the occasion.

The meeting will be attended by Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP President Nitin Nabin, apart from other NDA leaders and senior Ministers.

According to sources, a vote of thanks will be presented on the achievements of the Modi government in the past 12 years.

BJP President Nabin said on Tuesday that some party leaders held a virtual meeting in preparation for the celebration of the event with Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states, party General Secretaries, and state Presidents.

Additionally, the BJP is expected to organise events to mark the World Environment Day on June 5 and International Yoga Day on June 21, which is likely to witness wide participation by party workers as well as the common people.

Seminars, tree plantation drives, and interactive programmes are also being planned with beneficiaries of centrally sponsored schemes from booth level to district, and state level.

BJP workers, sources say, have been reaching out to households to inform people about the welfare measures, developmental initiatives and other achievements of the Modi government in the past 12 years.

Leaders have expressed confidence that citizens have, and will continue to repose their trust in Prime Minister Modi’s vibrant and visionary leadership.

Thiruvananthapuram, March 9 (IANS) With the Kerala Assembly elections drawing closer, the focus of political activity has temporarily shifted from the state to the national Capital, as senior leaders of the Congress and the BJP head to Delhi for crucial discussions with their central leaderships on candidate selection and seat-sharing arrangements.

Kerala has a 140 member Legislative Assembly and in the 2021 elections, the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) secured a decisive mandate, winning 99 seats, while the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) managed 41 seats.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which had opened its account in the state in 2016, failed to retain its lone seat in the 2021 polls.

Determined to reverse that setback, the BJP leadership is making an all out effort to secure representation in the Assembly this time.

The party’s state leaders have already reached Delhi, where the first round of discussions with the national leadership is scheduled for Monday evening.

A second round of meetings is expected on Tuesday.

Party sources indicate that the deliberations will focus on constituency level assessments, candidate selection and alliance dynamics.

By the end of the consultations, the state leadership hopes to release the party’s first list of candidates, likely covering around 50 constituencies.

Parallelly, the Congress leadership from Kerala is also travelling to Delhi to hold consultations with the party high command.

The discussions are expected to centre on the distribution of seats among UDF allies as well as the identification of winnable candidates in key constituencies.

In the 2021 Assembly elections, the Congress contested 93 seats as part of the UDF arrangement but managed to win only 22, leaving the remaining seats to its coalition partners.

With the party aiming to regain political ground in the state, the upcoming meetings in Delhi are expected to play a critical role in shaping its electoral strategy.

As the election season gathers momentum, the decisions taken in the national Capital over the next two days could set the tone for Kerala’s political battle in the months ahead.

However for the CPI(M), all the key selections take place in Kerala itself and it’s only a formality when the national leadership gives the green signal and this is expected in the coming weeks.

CM Mamata Banerjee in Sandeshkhali today

Kolkata, Dec 30 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be visiting Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district on Monday — a first since the sexual harassment controversy broke out earlier this year.

Several local women had made allegations of sexual harassment and land grabbing by local Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan — who has since been suspended by the party — and his two aides, Shibu Prasad Hazra and Uttam Sardar.

The Chief Minister on December 26 announced that she would be going there to attend an official programme on December 30 and hand over documents of public services to 100 beneficiaries there.

On Monday, 20,000 individuals will be handed over such papers from different camps established there on that day,” Banerjee said.

Earlier, when the controversy broke out, doubts were raised from different quarters, including the opposition parties in the state, as to why the Chief Minister was avoiding a visit to Sandeshkhali.

Political observers feel that the Chief Minister’s visit to Sandeshkhali now is significant as she is expected to make important announcements there.

On January 5, Sandeshkhali hit the headlines as a group of Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials and their escorting Central Armed Forces Personnel (CAPF) personnel were attacked after attempting a raid and search operations at the residence of Sheikh Shahjahan in connection with the multi-core ration distribution case in West Bengal.

After that, the local people whose land was allegedly grabbed by Shahahjan and his associates and the women, who had become victims of sexual harassment by them, came out on the streets protesting the issue.

The Trinamool then said the allegations of sexual harassment were politically motivated and meant to defame the party ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election. The BJP, however, claimed the allegations were an example of the Trinamool misrule and exploitation of women.

In the Lok Sabha election, the Trinamool Congress won the Basirhat seat, within which the Sandeshkhali Assembly constituency is located.

Sheikh Shahjahan was arrested on February 29 after he managed to evade the police for around two months.

Meanwhile, the Leader of Opposition, BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari has announced that he would hold a ‘Jana Sanjog Yatra’ in the area a day after the Chief Minister’s visit.

Coimbatore city corporation to launch two-day special bulk waste collection drive from August 2

Chennai, July 28 (IANS) In a major step towards tackling the growing menace of large-scale domestic waste, the Coimbatore city corporation will conduct a special bulk waste collection drive on August 2 and 3.

The initiative aims to collect and properly dispose old furniture and other large household items, which are often illegally dumped along roadsides and into water bodies.

The civic body has urged residents to bring bulk waste such as old beds, sofas, mattresses, tables, chairs, and other large domestic items to designated collection points set up at each ward and zonal office.

Zonal helplines have also been activated to provide assistance, and sanitary supervisors will be available for guidance.

The drive was announced shortly after media reports highlighted the growing problem of bulk waste being dumped in public spaces, often during early mornings or late at night to evade surveillance.

In a Press statement, Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran emphasised the importance of community participation in the effort.

“Residents should bring bulky household waste to their respective ward collection centres. Please do not leave items on roadsides, footpaths, or open grounds,” he said.

The Commissioner also revealed that several recyclers have already shown interest in the initiative.

“We will first gather all the collected waste at a central location. Recyclers will be invited to take any reusable items, and the rest will be disposed of using scientifically approved methods,” he explained.

Based on public response, the civic body is considering making the bulk waste collection a weekly event.

Plans are also underway to include electronic waste (e-waste) in future drives.

“Any revenue generated from the sale of recyclable materials will be directed towards the welfare of our sanitary workers,” Prabakaran added.

The corporation hopes the initiative will not only reduce illegal dumping but also promote responsible waste disposal and recycling practices among residents.
