New Delhi, June 5 (IANS) BJP leader Amit Malviya took a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, citing the high GDP growth figure for the Indian economy released on Friday as a “tsunami” that has “washed away” the Opposition leader’s “latest sinister attempt to malign India.”
The latest GDP data shows India growing at 7.7 per cent in FY 2025–26 is the fastest among major economies. Quarter after quarter, India held firm with a 6.7 per cent growth in Q1, 8.4 per cent growth in Q2, 7.8 per cent in Q3 and again 7.8 per cent in Q4, Malviya pointed out.
Meanwhile, Germany grew at just 0.4 per cent, Japan at 0.8 per cent, the Euro Area at 1.3 per cent, and the G7 at 1.6 per cent, he said.
Even among emerging economies, India outpaced Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, and Thailand, Malviya added.
He further stated that auto sales are at an all-time high, manufacturing remains in expansion, GST collections are rising, credit growth is strong, and forex reserves remain healthy. This is resilience, not panic.
“The only ‘tsunami’ visible today is the one drowning the Congress party’s malignant thinking,” Malviya quipped.
Rahul Gandhi had earlier said that India was heading towards an “economic tsunami” because the government had removed all shock absorbers.
Malviya also said that in 2013, India was branded as one of the “Fragile Five” economies with twin deficits, high inflation, policy paralysis and economic uncertainty, while today, the country stands as the world’s fastest-growing major economy.
From record infrastructure creation and strong forex reserves to controlled inflation and decisive policymaking, the transformation has been remarkable, he added.
The BJP leader further stated that while some continue to spread doom and predict economic collapse, the facts tell a very different story. India is not merely growing; it is driving global growth.
“From the ‘Fragile Five’ to the world’s growth engine, the transformation speaks for itself. Those who predicted decline have been proven wrong time and again. India’s rise is built on reforms, resilience, and decisive leadership. The transformation speaks for itself,” he added.
