
Ahmedabad, June 8 (IANS) The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has completed and allotted more than 21,000 affordable homes to economically weaker families and has submitted proposals for nearly 24,000 additional housing units under the second phase of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), as the civic body scales up its efforts to address urban housing demand in Gujarat’s largest city.
According to details released by AMC on Monday, a total of 21,056 houses have been completed and allotted under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS-I) category of PMAY 1.0, while construction of another 10,431 units is currently in progress.
The EWS-I homes, built with a carpet area of 28 square metres, comprise a bedroom, hall, kitchen, toilet-bathroom, and wash area.
The projects have been equipped with facilities including parking, stainless steel sinks with Kota stone kitchen platforms, aluminium glass windows, round-the-clock water supply, centralised drainage systems, common plots, solar panels, fire-fighting systems, percolation wells, lifts, and PNG gas connections.
AMC said the beneficiary contribution for these homes has been fixed at Rs 3.30 lakh. Under the EWS-II category, the corporation has completed 1,217 housing units with a carpet area of 38 square metres.
The civic body has also undertaken large-scale housing development under the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation and Redevelopment Scheme (ISSR)-2013.
AMC said 9,662 houses with a carpet area of 30 square metres have been completed, while work on another 16,744 units is under way. The houses include one bedroom, hall, kitchen, toilet-bathroom, courtyard and open parking space.
Amenities provided under the scheme include vitrified tile flooring, Kota stone kitchen platforms, earthquake-resistant construction, glass windows with MS grills, wooden flush doors, standard fittings, water and drainage networks, mini sewage treatment plants, RCC roads, paver block paving, lifts, and PNG gas connections.
Under the Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC) component of PMAY, 274 beneficiaries have received housing assistance.
AMC also reported that 2,501 homes have been included under the LIG 2BHK category with a carpet area of 48 square metres.
Separately, under the Urban Housing Scheme-2016 and the Public Housing Redevelopment Policy, the corporation has completed 4,768 houses, while construction of 64 additional units remains in progress.
The next phase of the programme is expected to significantly expand the housing stock across the city.
Under PMAY 2.0, AMC has been assigned a target of constructing 50,000 houses. The corporation said it has so far submitted Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) covering 23,958 housing units to the government for approval.
These include DPRs for 6,755 houses across 18 slum locations and 3,190 houses at eight locations for families residing in lake-area settlements.
Under the BLC component, DPRs have been submitted for 67 houses. The Affordable Rental Housing Complex (ARHC) scheme proposes 1,745 units at three locations, while the Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) component covers 12,201 houses across 21 locations.
AMC noted that the carpet area of homes proposed under PMAY 2.0 has been increased compared with PMAY 1.0. The corporation is also developing 2,060 homes under a Low-Income Group (LIG) housing scheme.
The 2.5 BHK units, each with an estimated carpet area of 61 square metres, are currently under construction.
The projects include vitrified flooring in all rooms, granite kitchen platforms, Kota stone flooring in wash areas, PNG gas connections, standard sanitary ware and CP fittings, laminated main doors, FRP internal doors, basement parking, granite-finished staircases, 24-hour water supply, double plumbing systems, mini sewage treatment plants, lifts, RCC roads, and paver block infrastructure.
Meanwhile, AMC has opened online applications for EWS housing under the Affordable Housing in Partnership component of PMAY (Urban).
Eligible applicants can apply through the corporation’s website and obtain scheme-related information through official notifications and public advertisements.
Applications are being invited from General, Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Other Backward Class categories.
The corporation said persons with benchmark disabilities are entitled to a 5 per cent horizontal reservation across all categories. The total cost of an EWS dwelling has been fixed at Rs three lakh.
Applicants are required to pay Rs 7,550 while submitting their online application. Those selected through the computerised draw process must subsequently pay Rs 52,500 upon receipt of the allotment letter.
The remaining Rs 2.40 lakh is payable in ten instalments of Rs 24,000 each, along with Rs 30,000 towards maintenance and other charges.
According to AMC, a total of 27,955 beneficiaries have been allotted houses under its housing programmes so far.
The corporation said applicants must submit Aadhaar and PAN cards as identity proof; electricity bills, tax bills, or ration cards as proof of residence; income certificates; caste certificates, where applicable; and disability certificates showing 40 per cent or higher disability for applicants seeking benefits under the disability category.
Housing allotments are carried out through a computerised draw system administered by the civic body’s e-governance department.
