Kareena Kapoor revisits debut film ‘Refugee’, shares stills with Abhishek Bachchan on its 26th anniversary

Mumbai, June 30 (IANS) Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor took a trip down memory lane as she revisited her debut film ‘Refugee’.

The actress, on account of the movie’s 26th anniversary on June 30, shared throwback stills from the movie on her social media account.

Kareena shared two iconic stills from the 2000 film. The first picture featured her alongside co-star Abhishek Bachchan in an emotional embrace, while the second was a close-up portrait of the actress wrapped in a brown shawl. She simply accompanied both pictures with a red heart emoji.

Talking about the movie, Refugee, it was diirected by J.P. Dutta, and was released on June 30, 2000.

The movie marked the acting debuts of both Kareena Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan. Set against the backdrop of the India-Pakistan border in the Great Rann of Kutch, the romantic drama revolved around an unnamed man, known only as Refugee (played by Abhishek Bachchan), who helps people cross the border illegally.

Further, his life changes after he falls in love with Nazneen, portrayed by Kareena Kapoor, as their relationship gets caught in the crossfire of political tensions and the distressing partition.

Although ‘Refugee’ did not emerge as a commercial success at the box office, the film received appreciation for its unique storyline, powerful performances and soulful music.

Kareena and Abhishek’s fresh pairing was widely loved by audiences.

Anu Malik’s renditioned the soundtrack, featuring memorable songs such as ‘Panchhi Nadiyan Pawan Ke Jhonke’, ‘Aisa Lagta Hai’, ‘Mere Humsafar’ and ‘Taal Pe Jab’, continues to be cherished by music lovers.

Following her debut, Kareena went on to establish herself as one of Hindi cinema’s most successful actresses.

Over the past two decades, she has been a part of many hit movies like ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…’, ‘Chameli’, ‘Jab We Met’, ‘Omkara’, ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Bodyguard’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘Udta Punjab’, ‘Veere Di Wedding’, ‘Good Newwz’, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, ‘Jaane Jaan’, ‘Crew’ and ‘The Buckingham Murders’.

The actress is currently all geared up for her upcoming movie, Daayra directed by Meghna Gulzar.

Mumbai, May 5 (IANS) Hollywood star Rebel Wilson on Tuesday announced that she and her wife Ramona Agruma have embraced parenthood again as they announced the birth of their second daughter Rose Estelle.

Rebel, who is known for her work in “Pitch Perfect”, “What to Expect When You’re Expecting,” “Struck by Lightning,” and “ Isn’t It Romantic”, shared a picture of her newborn daughter on Instagram.

She wrote: “Proud to announce the birth of our 2nd daughter Rose Estelle! What a gorgeous blessing to have another little girl! Now on May 4th it’s now 4 of us! Ramona and I are feeling so incredibly grateful and blessed to grow our family, thank you everyone for all the well wishes.”

Rebel married her partner, Ramona in September 2024, in Sardinia, Italy. The couple held a legal ceremony in Sydney, Australia, later. They welcomed a daughter, Royce Lillian, via surrogate in late 2022.

The 46-year-old began appearing in the SBS comedy series Pizza and later appeared in the sketch comedy show The Wedge. Wilson appeared in the comedy films Bridesmaids and A Few Best Men, both in 2011.

Rebel was last seen in Tinsel Town, a Christmas comedy film directed by Chris Foggin and starring Kiefer Sutherland and Rebel.

The film’s synopsis read: “Finding himself typecast and blacklisted, Hollywood actor Bradley Mac resorts to doing theatre work in England only to discover it involves appearing in a small town panto of Cinderella.”

She was also seen in Bride Hard, an action comedy film directed by Simon West.It stars Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, Anna Chlumsky, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Gigi Zumbado, Stephen Dorff, and Justin Hartley.

On April 30, Rebel, whose directorial debut is close to wrapping up its legal battle, has been forced to deny that she orchestrated a cyber attack on actress Charlotte MacInnes.

The attack allegedly led to a nude photo of the actress being leaked. Charlotte is suing Wilson for defamation in Sydney, arguing that the ‘Bridesmaids’ star tarnished her reputation by claiming that she made, and then later walked back, a sexual harassment complaint against ‘The Deb’ producer Amanda Ghost, reports ‘Deadline’.

In her affidavit, MacInnes alleged that Wilson organized a hack of her Snapchat account, which led to a nude photo of the young actress being leaked to her contacts.

According to deadline.com, Charlotte claimed that the cyber attack occurred days after she filed her defamation lawsuit last September.

(IANS Exclusive) Govinda-Sunita separation: Actor’s manager calls it a publicity stunt

Mumbai, Feb 25 (IANS) After the accidental shooting incident in October last year, actor Govinda is again in the news. This time, the reports claim that his wife Sunita has filed for separation and has also dispatched a legal document pertaining to the matter. However, the actor’s manager has now stated that the reports of the actor’s wife Sunita filing for separation are being floated to gain the mileage of public attention.

The actor’s manager Shashi Sinha spoke with IANS following the reports of Sunita filing for separation, and has said that nothing of such sorts has been put into action by Govinda.

He told IANS, “Right now, the news is being spread all over the place. So we are keeping an eye on it. Yes, she has sent a legal notice in the court. I am aware of that. But there is no concrete matter as to what it is. The legal notice hasn’t yet reached us”.

The manager also said that Sunita has been doing such acts, which intrigue the audience with regards to Govinda, for the past few days.

He continued, “You must have seen that something or the other has been coming up. This or that. Sunita ji has said something or other about Govinda ji. She said she taught him acting or dance”.

The manager said that Govinda lives in the bungalow for most of the time while Sunita lives in a flat but there isn’t any lack of interest on actor’s part when it comes to looking after Sunita and his family.

“There are certain things that are going on. But they are on their own terms. But it is not like there is a poet in a book or something. Govinda is a man of a different nature. He stands for others, and for his family”, the manager shared.

However, Shashi refused to call this set-up (the actor spending a generous time in his bungalow and Sunita living in a flat) as the couple living separately.

“They don’t live separately. Govinda lives in his bungalow. Most of the time, he lives there. Yes, he comes and goes to his house. He lives in a bungalow for a few days. He works in a political party, he is in the ministry. He is associated with the government. So, it’s very natural for him to spend some time in his bungalow”, he added.

Amaal Mallik on sharing his family struggles in ‘Bigg Boss 19’: I’m not afraid to speak the truth

Mumbai, Dec 15 (IANS) Singer Amaal Mallik has opened up about his family struggles on the reality show “Bigg Boss 19.”

He revealed some deeply personal family struggles, including his father Daboo Malik’s career challenges, financial difficulties involving a Rs. 3.5 crore loan, his mother facing mistreatment, and his grandfather’s illness. Recently, in an exclusive interview with IANS, Amaal Mallik spoke about his decision to share his family struggles on national television. The singer confessed that he isn’t afraid to speak his truth.

When asked if it was the right decision to share so much about his family, including his grandfather’s and mother’s struggles on Bigg Boss 19, Mallik said he is committed to sharing his journey honestly and isn’t afraid to speak his truth.

“If someone asks me about my entire journey, I will answer honestly. I’m not afraid to speak my truth. People worry about their image or their following. I don’t. If I’m telling my story, I will tell it fully. Some things my parents felt I could have said differently—naturally, their perspective is different from mine. They weren’t living inside that house. But I spoke from my heart.”

During his stint on the reality show, the singer spoke about his family’s financial struggles. Mallik described a period when his family was burdened with a substantial loan and revealed that no one offered them support during that difficult period. He said on the show, “During that time, we had a loan of Rs 3.5-4 crore because of multiple reasons and no one, neither my uncle, nor anyone helped us.”

Amaal Mallik also opened up about how these challenges were compounded by his grandfather’s serious illness. He also emphasized that he has never relied on his father’s name to advance his career.
