Nine killed after armed assailants target police checkpost in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Ld)

Islamabad, July 30 (IANS) At least nine police personnel were killed, and 28 others injured after armed assailants targeted Khazina Banda checkpost in Hangu district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, local media reported on Thursday.

Fitna al Khawarij, a term used by the state for terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) Pakistan, was behind the attack, according to the statement released by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General (IG) Zulfiqar Hameed, Pakistan-based daily Dawn reported.

Hameed said that police personnel responded to the attack and additional forces were sent to the site. He said that nine police personnel, including a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), were killed while 28 others were injured during the exchange of fire between police and armed assailants.

The incidents occurred amid a rise in attacks targeting law enforcement personnel in Pakistan, especially in the border provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

On July 15, at least two policemen were killed and 26 people, including 22 police personnel, were injured after armed assailants carried out attacks in Bannu and Lower Dir districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Six police personnel and four people were injured after armed assailants attacked the Miryab police station using an explosives-laden vehicle. Following the blast, a heavy exchange of fire between the attackers and police lasted for several hours, Pakistan’s another daily, The Express Tribune, reported.

District Police Officer Captain (retd) Muhammad Furqan Bilal said that the armed assailants tried to ram the explosives-laden vehicle into the police station, causing an explosion and exchange of fire with security personnel.

According to the sources, the armed assailants, before the attack, blew up a previously damaged bridge on the road leading to the police station to stop the police personnel and rescue teams from reaching the spot, The Express Tribune reported.

In a separate incident, two police personnel were killed and 16 others injured during an exchange of fire with armed assailants in Lower Dir’s Haidaray Top.

Earlier, CM Gupta inaugurated a three-day Swadeshi Utsav 2025 organised by the Delhi government’s Department of Industries and Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited.

Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, the festival celebrates the theme “Swadeshi – Substitution of Foreign Made Goods with Swadeshi Goods”.

In her inaugural address, CM Gupta said: “Every Indian must recognise the ‘industrial soldier’ within — one who protects the nation’s economic frontiers through hard work and dedication.”

“Inspired Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision, we are witnessing a resurgence of confidence and innovation among our citizens,” she said.

The Chief Minister added that the Swadeshi movement is far more than a symbolic appeal.

“These campaigns are not limited to diyas or handicrafts — their purpose is to give Indian brands global recognition across every sector. The time has come for us to take pride not in foreign labels but in our own creations. Let us wear, use, and celebrate Indian products, and say with pride — ‘This is my Indian brand’,” she said.

Delhi Industries Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that at India Gate, more than 100 stalls are showcasing India’s entrepreneurial strength — including 11 enterprises under the PM Formalisation of Food Processing Enterprises Scheme, two stalls from Tihar Jail, self-help groups, and artisans from across the country — all living the resolve of adopting Swadeshi.

The Swadeshi Utsav 2025 will continue till October 11, featuring: 100 exhibition stalls for MSMEs, artisans, self-help groups, One District One Product exporters, women and SC/ST entrepreneurs; Food courts serving traditional Indian cuisines; daily cultural performances showcasing India’s artistic and cultural heritage and Panel discussions with experts from CII, ASSOCHAM, FICCI, SIDBI, Chamber of Indian MSME, and other industry leaders.

Pak Army’s unprovoked firing on J&K LoC continues for 12th consecutive day, India retaliates

Jammu, May 6 (IANS) For the 12th consecutive day on Tuesday, the Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked small arms firing at Indian positions on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Defence Ministry spokesman said, “During the night of 05-06 May 2025, Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked small-arms firing from posts across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajauri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor.

“Indian Army responded in a proportionate manner,” said the spokesperson.

Tensions have reached a new high between the two countries after Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists sponsored and aided by Pakistan killed 26 innocent civilians, including 25 tourists and a local, on April 22 in Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam.

The entire country was outraged by the cowardly act of terrorists. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his first reaction to Pahalgam killings that the terrorists, their handlers and backers would he chased and hunted down to the ends of the earth.

India announced a slew of measures against Pakistan, including the deportation of its nationals from Indian soil, the closure of the Attari-Wagah border crossing, throwing the Indus Water Treaty into abeyance, closing its airspace for Pakistani commercial flights, and the cancellation of all trade and cultural exchange between the two countries.

A directive from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday asked all border states to undertake a mock civil defence drill on Wednesday to acquaint students, etc., with emergency civil defence procedures to be adopted in warlike emergencies.

PM Modi has given operational freedom to the armed forces to avenge the Pahalgam killings.

This decision came after the PM met the defence minister, national security advisor, chief of defence staff (CDS), and chiefs of the army, navy and the Air Force. A series of meetings has taken place.

J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has also been holding security review meetings. The L-G asked the Army to use whatever force is required to hunt down the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attack.

Meanwhile, to send a powerful message to terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs) and sympathisers, security forces demolished the houses of ten terrorists.

On April 25, two houses belonging to Adil Hussain Thokar and Asif Sheikh were demolished in the Tral and Bijbehara areas. Both these terrorists were part of the LeT terrorist group involved in the Pahalgam killings.

On April 28, the J&K Assembly unanimously condemned the dastardly terrorist attack and adopted a resolution.

New Delhi, Aug 9 (IANS) Marking the Foundation Day of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), senior Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi extended warm wishes to the youth wing of the party, praising its historic role in upholding democratic values and voicing the aspirations of young Indians.

The Indian Youth Congress, founded on August 9, 1960, is the official youth wing of the Indian National Congress. Initially operating as a department of the INC post-Partition, it evolved into a dynamic political platform in the late 1960s under the leadership of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who redefined its role to actively engage in social and political work.

In a statement on its official X handle, the Indian Youth Congress wrote: “As we celebrate IYC Day, we honour over six decades of relentless dedication… a legacy rooted deeply in democracy, secularism, and social justice.
