PM Modi received by K’taka CM Shivakumar in Mysuru

Mysuru, Aug 1 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Mysuru helipad on Saturday to participate in the inauguration of the Viveka Memorial at Ramakrishna Vidyashala.

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar welcomed the Prime Minister by presenting him with a shawl and a bouquet upon his arrival. Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot was also present to receive the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Mysuru to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Viveka Memorial at Ramakrishna Vidyashala.

The historic and cultural city of Mysuru has turned into a virtual police fortress during PM Modi’s visit on Saturday, with unprecedented security arrangements, road closures and traffic restrictions in place across the city.

PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre (Viveka Smaraka) at the Ramakrishna Ashrama, a memorial built to commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s historic visit to Mysuru in 1892.

The event will be attended by Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who will receive the Prime Minister upon his arrival.

As part of the security arrangements, more than 1,000 police personnel have been deployed across the city under the supervision of South Zone Inspector General of Police (IGP) M.B. Boralingaiah.

The security contingent includes one Superintendent of Police, one Police Commissioner, four Additional Superintendents of Police, 18 Police Inspectors, 40 Sub‑Inspectors, 550 male police personnel, 350 women police personnel and 250 Home Guards.

Police have imposed stringent security measures around the Ramakrishna Ashrama, the Oval Grounds, Mysuru Airport and along the Prime Minister’s convoy route. Authorities have also closed traffic on 12 major roads in the city to facilitate the VVIP movement and ensure foolproof security.

PM Modi will reach the Viveka Smaraka at the Ramakrishna Ashrama and participate in the inauguration ceremony of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre and Viveka Smaraka. He will visit the Ramakrishna Ashrama School and leave from Mysuru Airport for New Delhi by a special aircraft.

The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre has been established in memory of Swami Vivekananda’s visit to Mysuru in 1892, a significant chapter in the spiritual leader’s journey across India before his historic address at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893.

Bengal BJP chief questions Abhishek Banerjee’s absence at Digha Jagannath temple inauguration

Kolkata, May 2 (IANS) West Bengal unit BJP president and Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar on Friday questioned the absence of Trinamool Congress general secretary and the party’s Lok Sabha member, Abhishek Banerjee, who also happens to be the nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, at the inauguration program of the Lord Jagannath temple at Digha in East Midnapore district of West Bengal on April 30.

Speaking to IANS, Majumdar also raised the question of whether his absence was prompted by his disapproval of the inauguration of the said temple, or because of his difference with the Chief Minister.

“The Chief Minister first claimed that the inauguration would be of the temple of Lord Jagannath. However, later, it surfaced that the inauguration was of Jagannath Dham Cultural Centre. For the mega event, lots of people, including me, were invited. But the question is – why the general secretary of Trinamool Congress was absent? Is it because of his differences with the Chief Minister?” Majumdar wondered.

He also observed that the controversies over the presence of the BJP’s former national vice-president and former Lok Sabha member Dilip Ghosh is “old news” now in the face of the absence of Abhishek Banerjee at the inauguration.

“It is not important who was present at the inauguration. It is important that who was absent from the programme,” Majumdar said.

Earlier, when the controversies shrouded over Dilip Ghosh’s presence at the inauguration with his newly-wedded wife Rinku Ghosh on Wednesday, Majumdar had claimed that “the decision was a personal one of Dilip Ghosh”.

BJP Lok Sabha member from Bishnupur Lok Sabha constituency Saumitra Khan vehemently criticised Ghosh for his presence through a social media post.

Later, Dilip Ghosh also came out with counter-jibes and claimed that a section of the current BJP leaders who were once nurtured in Trinamool Congress and are currently nurtured in BJP are questioning his dedication towards the party.

Although Ghosh did not name anybody, he made it clear that his target was not just Khan but also the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal assembly Suvendu Adhikari.

HM Amit Shah to open largest dairy facility, projects worth Rs 825 crore in Haryana tomorrow

Chandigarh, Oct 2 (IANS) Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will visit Haryana on Friday to inaugurate India’s largest dairy production facility, besides development projects of Rs 825 crore in Rohtak and Kurukshetra.

Divulging details, a state government spokesperson said on Thursday that as part of efforts to promote the cooperative sector, HM Shah will inaugurate the newly constructed Sabar Dairy Plant at IMT Rohtak. Built for Rs 325 crore, the plant will house state-of-the-art machinery, which will be formally commissioned by the Union Minister.

The facility is expected to generate direct and indirect employment for nearly 1,000 people. The Sabar Dairy plant is India’s largest production facility for curd, buttermilk, and yoghurt, with a daily capacity of 150 metric tons of curd, 3 lakh litres of buttermilk, 10 lakh litres of yoghurt, and 10 metric tons of sweets.

The spokesperson further shared HM Shah will also distribute tool kits to 2,200 artisans during the ‘Khadi Karigar Mahotsav’ at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak.

Organised by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission under the Ministry of MSME, this event is themed “Swadeshi Se Swaavlamban”.

During the programme, he will also distribute modern machinery and tool kits, along with Rs 301 crore as margin money under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).

In addition, he will inaugurate PMEGP units and will address a gathering later. In Kurukshetra, HM Shah will inaugurate a five-day exhibition on India’s new criminal laws. The exhibition aims to help lawyers, students, parents, and common citizens understand recent reforms in the criminal justice system.

The exhibition will showcase the changes and achievements brought about by the new laws and highlight the roles of seven different departments, divided into 10 thematic sections.

The spokesperson said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a historic step by introducing modern criminal laws to make the justice system timely, accessible, and citizen-friendly.

By replacing outdated penal codes, the government has created a system that simplifies departmental work while enabling faster and more transparent justice for citizens.

The exhibition will also explain the direct benefits of the new legal framework, including speedy trials, the use of modern technology, and quicker case resolutions. This initiative aims to strengthen public trust and give a new direction to India’s justice system.

HM Shah will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects of approximately Rs 825 crore in Kurukshetra. These initiatives will significantly strengthen Haryana’s infrastructure and open up new avenues for public welfare.

The projects are expected to accelerate progress, create employment opportunities, and empower the youth.

Odisha: Former MP Rabindra Jena quits BJD, likely to join BJP​

Bhubaneswar, March 10 (IANS) In a major jolt to the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD), senior party leader and former Lok Sabha MP Rabindra Kumar Jena on Tuesday resigned from the primary membership of the BJD.​

In a letter addressed to the BJD president and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik, Jena tendered his resignation from the party, citing personal reasons.​

“For many years, I have remained a disciplined member of the party, strengthened its organisation while serving the people of Balasore. However, due to certain personal reasons and circumstances, I have taken the difficult decision to part ways with the party,” stated Jena.​

The veteran leader further underscored that his long association with the party would always remain a memorable journey. He expressed his deep gratitude to the party’s state leadership, colleagues, and the BJD workers of Balasore district for their cooperation, respect, and opportunities during this period.​

“I sincerely express my deep gratitude to the state leadership, my colleagues, and all the party workers of Balasore district for the cooperation, respect, and opportunities I have received during this period. Finally, I humbly request you to kindly accept my resignation and relieve me immediately from all responsibilities of the party,” added Jena in the letter to Patnaik.​

Notably, Jena, a noted businessman, was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Balasore constituency in 2014 but lost to senior BJP leader Pratap Chandra Sarangi by a small margin in the 2019 elections.​

Speculation is rife that Jena may soon formally join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at a special event.​

Following his resignation on Tuesday, BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty alleged that Jena decided to quit the regional party out of fear of possible CBI action against him in connection with his alleged involvement in the multi-crore chit fund scam. He further accused the ruling BJP of constantly threatening Jena with CBI action in the chit fund scam.​

Meanwhile, Jena’s resignation ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections holds significant political importance, as the former MP’s wife, Subasini Jena, is currently a BJD MLA representing the Basta Assembly constituency. Political experts expressed that her vote may play a major role in the voting for the fourth candidate in the Rajya Sabha polls.​
