Delhi Police recovers 30 rolls of banned Chinese manja, one arrested

New Delhi, June 6 (IANS) Against the backdrop of the Bengaluru stampede, BJP leader Amit Malviya on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led Siddaramaiah government, alleging that it is ruining the global city’s reputation.

“Wake up, Bengaluru. Before it is too late. The Congress will destroy what we have built – the reputation, the dignity and the hard-earned global stature of this city,” said Malviya on X.

The in-charge of the BJP’s National Information and Technology Department also lashed out at the Karnataka government for its mismanagement, which led to the tragedy near Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives.

Blaming Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy D. K. Shivakumar for the tragedy, Malviya said, “Let it be said clearly: Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar have blood on their hands.”

He also hit out at attempts by the Congress government to pass the blame for the tragedy on to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) cricket team managers.

“Instead of owning up, the government is now targeting RCB officials – turning them into scapegoats, because they cannot protest the might of the state. This is not justice; it is a cover-up. A sinister ploy to shield those who are truly responsible,” wrote Malviya on X.

“What makes it truly horrifying is the apathy of Karnataka’s leadership. Even as young lives were lost, including a teenage girl who suffocated to death after sustaining a head injury, CM Siddaramaiah and DCM DK Shivakumar continued to revel in the celebrations. The program wasn’t halted. The music didn’t stop. The cameras kept rolling,” he said.

Malviya called out the CM and the government machinery for what he said was insensitive behaviour.

“It is inconceivable that the Congress’s top leadership was unaware of the chaos and loss unfolding just outside the Chinnaswamy stadium. This wasn’t just an accident – it was the inevitable consequence of criminal mismanagement, poor crowd control, and zero accountability,” his post read.

Earlier on Friday, Bengaluru Police intensified their hunt for four more accused in connection with the June 4 stampede, in which, so far, four people, including the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Marketing Head and DNA Event Management Company staffers, have been arrested.

Bengaluru, May 22 (IANS) BJP MP and former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj S. Bommai on Friday criticised Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that the Congress leader had insulted the entire nation.

In a media statement, Bommai said Rahul Gandhi had termed Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah “traitors”, and claimed that such remarks amounted to an insult to the country.

He said that in a democratic system, PM Modi has been constitutionally elected by the people three times to serve as the Prime Minister, and added that world leaders have praised his leadership. Bommai stated that the citizens of India feel fortunate to have PM Modi as their leader and that several global leaders have expressed similar views.

Highlighting the Centre’s actions on national security, Bommai said the PM Modi government had revoked Article 370, which had granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and claimed that the move helped eradicate the roots of terrorism. He further said that through ‘Operation Sindoor’, the government had taught Pakistan a lesson for allegedly supporting and sponsoring terrorists, and added that the country had been made free of Naxalism.

Criticising Rahul Gandhi further, Bommai said that as the Leader of Opposition, he holds a responsible constitutional position and should not make “low-level remarks” against the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister. He termed Gandhi’s comments an insult to constitutional offices.

Bommai also attacked the Congress party, claiming that it had already been reduced to insignificance in four out of five states in recent elections. He alleged that statements of this nature by Rahul Gandhi would further weaken the party’s prospects.

Demanding an apology, Bommai said Rahul Gandhi should seek forgiveness from the people of the country for his remarks, failing which “the people themselves will teach him a lesson.”

New Delhi, Nov 2 (IANS) The two-week-long “Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada” started with nationwide celebrations and festivities to highlight the progress made under key initiatives such as PM JANMAN, Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan and various livelihood and entrepreneurship programmes, an official said on Sunday.

The celebrations started on Saturday across the country through the concerted efforts of Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs), Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs), TRIFED, and NSTFDC, highlighting the rich legacy, culture, and contributions of India’s tribal communities and Tribal Freedom Fighters, said the official of the Tribal Affairs Ministry in a statement.

The “Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada” from November 1-15 serves as a nationwide platform to celebrate tribal identity, showcase indigenous knowledge systems, and promote awareness of government initiatives for tribal empowerment, said the statement.

It also aims to celebrate the achievements under schemes like National Sickle Cell Elimination Mission, DAJGUA, and various other programmes.

The fortnight-long celebrations form part of the year-long Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh observance marking the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda — one of India’s most revered tribal freedom fighters and an enduring symbol of resistance against colonial oppression.

Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government institutionalised Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas on November 15 each year, ensuring that the legacy of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and other tribal freedom fighters continues to inspire future generations.

Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram called upon all States and Union Territories to celebrate Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada as a people’s movement — showcasing the rich cultural identity, knowledge systems, and achievements of tribal communities across India.

From the Himalayas to the coastal plains, States and Union Territories have launched a series of cultural, educational, and community-oriented programmes, reflecting a shared spirit of pride and remembrance leading up to Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas.

In Gujarat, a National Seminar on the Life, Struggle, and Contribution of Bhagwan Birsa Munda was jointly organised by the Department of Tribal Development and TRI, Gujarat, at Tent City-2, Ekta Nagar (Narmada District).

The seminar, inaugurated by Minister P.C. Baranda, witnessed participation from over 600 professors, academicians, and tribal leaders, reflecting both academic and cultural solidarity.

In Jammu and Kashmir, capacity-building workshops were held on PM JANMAN, Dharti Aaba initiatives, legal empowerment, and NEP pedagogy. Financial and digital literacy sessions were also conducted for Ashram School students, empowering tribal youth with essential life skills.

In Meghalaya, the Department of Arts and Culture and the Tribal Research Institute organized a special inaugural programme at the State Central Library, Shillong. The event featured floral tributes to tribal icons and captivating cultural performances, setting a vibrant tone for state-wide celebrations.

In Rajasthan, all 31 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) participated in the inaugural events of Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh. Students showcased their creativity through painting, essay, and speech competitions celebrating tribal freedom fighters and cultural heritage.
