PM Modi to inaugurate various development projects in MP tomorrow

Bhopal, Dec 24 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for various projects, including the Ken-Betwa river interlinking project.

The project will be inaugurated on the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee during whose tenure this ambitious project was dreamt of.

PM Modi is scheduled to arrive at Khajuraho airport at 1 p.m. and reach Chhatarpur to lay the foundation for the Ken-Betwa project for the Bundelkhand region.

Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Ken- Betwa river linking national project, the country’s first such project under the national perspective plan.

This project will provide irrigation facilities to various districts in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh benefitting lakhs of farmer families. It will also provide drinking water facilities, create employment opportunities and strengthen the rural economy.

PM Modi will release a commemorative stamp and coin marking the 100th birth anniversary of former PM Vajpayee.

He will also lay the foundation stone of 1153 Atal Gram Sushasan buildings, which will play an important role in the practical conduct of work and responsibilities of Gram Panchayats leading to good governance at the local level.

In line with his commitment to energy sufficiency and promoting green energy, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project in the Khandwa district. The project will reduce carbon emissions and contribute to the Government’s mission of net zero carbon emissions by 2070.

Preparations are in the last leg for PM Modi’s visit. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, his cabinet colleagues and state BJP chief V. D. Sharma will reach Chhatarpur this evening to review the arrangements.

On Monday, the state government organised a mega event in Sagar, during which, several projects including the renovated Lakha Banjara Lake were inaugurated. On this occasion, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was also present.

Notably, the Ken-Betwa project will transport excess water from the Ken River in Madhya Pradesh to the Betwa River in Uttar Pradesh to irrigate the drought-prone Bundelkhand region.

Earlier, CM Yadav said that the project will provide water for irrigation for over 8.1 lakh hectares in MP’s Bundelkhand region and another 2.5 lakh hectares in Uttar Pradesh. The project will benefit Chhatarpur, Panna, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Sheopur, Damoh, Datia, Raisen, Vidisha and Sagar districts.

CID’s Counter Intelligence raids multiple places in J&K’s Anantnag, Kulgam districts

Srinagar, Dec 14 (IANS) The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK), a wing of the CID on Saturday carried out raids at multiple locations in Anantnag and Kulgam districts of Jammu & Kashmir.

Officials sources said that sleuths of CIK carried out raids at Anantnag district jail in Mattan and searched various barracks and blocks inside the jail premises.

“The raid is being carried out in connection with the investigations of a terror-related case. The teams of CIK are also carrying out raids in Chawalgam and Sonigam villages of Kulgam district. The raids are being carried out after obtaining search warrants from the court,” sources said.

During similar raids in the past, the sleuths of various investigating agencies discovered mobile phones being used by the inmates. In most of these cases, the jail authorities had expressed a lack of knowledge about these mobile phones.

In a number of such cases, some officials of the jail had also been brought under the scanner of the intelligence agencies.

It must be mentioned that after the terrorist increased their activities targeting civilians, security forces, police and the army, the security forces have been given clear orders to go after terrorists, their over-ground workers (OGWs) and sympathises so that the ecosystem of terror is completely dismantled in J&K.

These terrorist attacks took place in the aftermath of peaceful people-participative Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections in J&K. Intelligence agencies believe that the fair and largely people-participative elections witnessed by the world had created impatience among the handlers of terror sitting across the border and that is why the terrorists have been directed to give the dying militancy the last push in J&K.

On October 20, terrorists opened indiscriminate firing inside the workers’ camp of an infrastructure company in Gagangir area of Ganderbal district. Seven civilians including six workers of the company and a local doctor were killed in the Gagangir attack.

Former Andhra Pradesh minister Avanthi Srinivas quits YSR Congress

Visakhapatnam, Dec 12 (IANS) Former Andhra Pradesh minister Avanthi Srinivas resigned on Thursday from the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).

Srinivas announced his resignation both as YSRCP in-charge for the Bheemili Assembly constituency and from the primary membership of the party at a press conference here.

He sent his resignation letter to the YSRCP president and former chief minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and the party’s North Andhra coordinator Vijayasai Reddy, mentioning that he would like to distance himself from politics for personal reasons.

Avanthi Srinivas criticised Jagan Mohan Reddy and advised him to honour the people’s mandate.

The former minister found fault with the YSRCP chief’s decision to stage protests over various issues.

He said people have given the mandate to the Telugu Desam Party-led coalition for five years and it was not proper to call ‘dharna’ without giving even five months to the coalition government.

Srinivas also slammed the YSRCP leadership for “ignoring” the party workers. Alleging that there is no internal democracy in the YSRCP, he said party workers “suffered” for the last five years.

He said Jagan Mohan Reddy used to give orders by sitting in Tadepalli but party workers suffered on the ground.

Srinivas, whose real name is Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao, was elected to the Assembly from the Bheemili constituency on a YSRCP ticket in 2019. He was minister for tourism, culture and youth advancement in the YSRCP government from 2019 to 2022.

He, however, suffered defeat from the same constituency in the elections held in May this year.

Avanthi Srinivas was elected to Lok Sabha from Anakapalli on a TDP ticket in 2014. He later joined YSRCP.

Several leaders, including three Rajya Sabha members, have quit the YSRCP since it lost power to the TDP-led NDA in May.

TDP-Jana Sena-BJP alliance stormed to power with a landslide victory in the May 13 elections. The alliance bagged 164 out of 175 Assembly seats and 21 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats.

The YSRCP, which had come to power in 2019 by winning 151 Assembly seats, could win only 11 seats. The party managed to win only four out of 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

UP CM lauds PM Modi for honouring workers who built Ram Temple in Ayodhya

Mumbai (Maharashtra), Dec 15 (IANS) Lauding the ‘respect’ given to the labour force under the Bharatiya Janata Party government, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for honouring the construction workers who worked at the Ram Mandir in Agra,

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister on Saturday also compared how the workers who built the Ram Temple were honoured and on the other hand hands of workers behind the Taj Mahal were “chopped off”.

He was addressing the annual conference of the World Hindu Economic Forum (WHEF) here in Mumbai.

He also hit out at the Opposition for initiating impeachment notices against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Allahabad High Court’s Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, saying “whoever speaks the truth” is threatened in this way.

“Whoever speaks the truth, these people will pressurise him with impeachment (motions), and still they talk about the Constitution. Look at their double standards,” the Uttar Pradesh CM said.

“An Allahabad High Court judge said there should be a Uniform Civil Code, and the world over the feelings of the majority community are respected,” he added.

What was a person’s crime if he voices these opinions, he asked.

“Shouldn’t there be a Uniform Civil Code in the country? The world over, the system runs as per what the majority community says and India is saying the discrimination between majority and minority community should end. They (the Congress) will pressurise, because it is their old habit of strangulating the Constitution and managing the system of the country,” CM Adityanath alleged.

As to the notice to impeach Vice-President Dhankhar for his alleged partisan role as Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, the BJP leader said the Vice-President is doing his duty as presiding officer of the Upper House.

“The Opposition is worried as to how a farmer’s son has reached this position. If someone as a judge as well as a citizen of the country puts forth truth on a social and cultural platform, he is threatened with impeachment,” CM Adityanath added.

Members of several opposition parties on Friday moved a notice in the Rajya Sabha for the impeachment of Allahabad High Court Judge Shekhar Kumar Yadav over his alleged controversial remarks at a Vishwa Hindu Parishad event on December 8.

The Supreme Court has sought details about the controversy from the Allahabad High Court.

“You would have seen how on January 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was giving respect to the workers who constructed the Ram Mandir. That is one side where the PM was raining flowers on them, but on the other hand, the situation before was such that the workers who constructed the Taj Mahal had their hands chopped off,” CM Yogi said in his address on Saturday.

He also mentioned that workers in the fine cloth industry in history also had their hands chopped off, destroying a whole tradition and legacy.

“Today, India respects its labour force and gives them all kinds of protections. On the other hand, there were rulers, who chopped off the hands of labourers and destroyed the legacy of fine cloth, destroyed the tradition completely,” the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said.

Talking about India’s historical contribution to the world’s economy between the first and fifteenth century, CM Yogi Adityanath said, “From the first century to the 15th century, even scholars associated with Europe accept that at that time India’s share in the world economy was more than 40 per cent, and that was the situation continuously till 15th century.”

The ‘World Hindu Economic Forum’ began on December 13 and will conclude on December 15 at the Jio World Convention Centre at BKC in Mumbai.

Speaking further, the Uttar Pradesh CM lauded Prime Minister Modi for bringing India out of the ‘identity crisis’.

“Today, those who are encouraging and nurturing terrorism today…These people claim our heritage when they were nowhere to be seen, even their seeds had not sprouted, even then our heritage was there,” he said.

He added, “Before 2014, India was facing an identity crisis… We are grateful to the respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who in the last 10 years has rescued India from the demonic rigidities and has shown us the vision of a ‘New India’.”
