AIIMS-Delhi to support, guide Tripura in improving health services

Agartala, June 9 (IANS) The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi would provide guidance and other help to further improve the health services in Tripura and would sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with state government in this regards, a top official said on Monday.

Tripura Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary Kiran Gitte said that a four-member team of AIIMS during their three-day visit to Tripura, visited government run Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital and other hospitals to study the health services and related aspects.

“Health department of Tripura and AIIMS, Delhi would soon sign MoU for development of health services in the state. Preparing draft and getting approval from both sides,” Gitte told IANS.

AIIMS, New Delhi Director Prof. M. Srinivas, who led a four member team of senior doctors visiting Tripura since June 7, separately said that they would soon submit a report to the state government recommending certain aspects to further improve the health services in the northeastern state.

He said that there are some positive aspects of Tripura health services.

“We have identified certain aspects and accordingly we would recommend our suggestions to the state government,” the AIIMS Director told the media.

Dr. Ramesh Agarwal, Professor of Paediatrics, AIIMS, New Delhi said that health infrastructure in terms of hospital beds is in a good position in Tripura.

Tripura’s trauma service and cancer treatment facilities are also good, he said, adding that the child mortality rate is better in Tripura compared to the national average.

Noting that because of good road connectivity, people of Tripura would get better health services, Dr Agarwal said and appreciated the Tripura government for introducing the Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana.

Other members of the AIIMS, New Delhi team include, Dr. Aruna Kumari, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, ESIC, Faridabad and Dr. Laxmitej Wundavalli, Asst. Prof. of Hospital Administration, AIIMS, New Delhi.

The AIIMS team visited Tripura on the request of Chief minister Manik Saha, who also holds the Health and Family Welfare portfolio.

After the meeting with the AIIMS team, the Chief Minister said that the state government is committed to provide the best possible healthcare services to its citizens.

“Chaired an important meeting between a delegation from AIIMS, New Delhi, and our state’s healthcare officials, aimed at improving medical services for patients at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital,” Saha said in a post on the X handle.

All NDA candidates likely to be elected unopposed in Andhra MLC polls

Amaravati, March 10 (IANS) All five candidates of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are likely to be elected unopposed to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council.

Only five nominations were received for the March 20 elections as the deadline for filing nominations ended on Monday.

Three candidates of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and one candidate of its ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) filed nominations on the last day.

Kavali Grishma, Beeda Ravichandra Yadav, and B.T. Naidu filed their papers as the candidates of the TDP.

BJP national executive committee member Somu Veerraju filed his papers as the BJP candidate.

Elections to five MLC seats from the MLAs’ quota are scheduled on March 20.

The TDP has left a seat each for the Jana Sena and the BJP.

Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena President Pawan Kalyan’s brother Naga Babu has already filed the nomination for the MLC polls. Chandrababu Naidu has already announced that Naga Babu will be inducted into the Cabinet.

The TDP-led NDA, which has 164 MLAs in the 175-member Assembly, is set to sweep the polls. The TDP has 135 MLAs, the Jana Sena 21, and the BJP eight.

The YSR Congress Party has only 11 seats in the Assembly.

The scrutiny of nominations will be taken up on March 11. The deadline for withdrawal of nominations is March 13.

Meanwhile, B.T. Naidu, who has been nominated by the TDP for second consecutive term as MLC, said that for the first time someone from the backward classes has been re-nominated for second term.

He said the TDP has given MLC tickets to candidates from weaker sections. B.T. Naidu and Ravinchandra Yadav are BCs while Kavali Garishma is from the Scheduled Caste. She is the daughter of senior TDP leader and former Speaker Pratibha Bharati.

Garishma thanked Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and TDP General Secretary Nara Lokesh for fielding her as the party candidate. She said she would raise people’s issues in the Council.

Meanwhile, Lokesh said the TDP has once again proved its sincerity towards the welfare of weaker sections of society by fielding all three candidates from these sections.

He said that Garsihma had been given a ticket to promote young women. He said all those working hard for the party would get the posts. He said those who did not get MLC nominations should not lose heart.

Fire breaks out at ED office building in Mumbai’s Ballard Estate

Mumbai, April 27 (IANS) A major fire broke out early Sunday at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Ballard Estate of South Mumbai. No casualties or injuries have been reported in the incident so far.

The ED office is housed in the Kaiser-i-Hind building, situated near the Grand Hotel on Currimbhoy Road.

According to the authorities, the fire broke out at around 2.30 a.m. on the fourth floor of the five-storey building. The fire brigade received a call about the blaze in the multistorey building soon after.

Firefighters and rescue teams rushed to the scene, and by 3.30 a.m., the fire was classified as a Level-II blaze, which is generally considered a major fire, the fire brigade control room confirmed.

Fortunately, no one was present in the office at that hour. So, no casualties or injuries have been reported so far.

The fire department said that a total of 12 firefighting machines were rushed to the spot. The official said eight fire engines, six jumbo tankers, one aerial water tower tender, one breathing apparatus van, one rescue van, one quick response vehicle, and an ambulance from the 108 service were deployed to the spot.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and the Mumbai Fire Department said, “The cause of the fire is not clear yet.”

More details were awaited.

On Saturday, a 34-year-old woman was killed and six others hospitalised after a fire broke out in a residential building in Lokhandwala, Andheri (West).

The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) received the call at 2.39 a.m. and declared a Level-I fire at Broke Land Building. The fire was confined to a room on the first floor of the ground-plus-eight-storey structure. A fire brigade official said the fire was caused due to a short circuit. The fire affected the electric wiring, electric installations, split and window AC units, wooden furniture, documents, mattresses, clothes, and other household items.

Fake alert: Govt confirms Bathinda airfield fully operational amid false social media claims

New Delhi, May 10 (IANS) The government on Saturday dismissed claims circulating on Pakistani social media that Bathinda airfield had been destroyed.

A fact check conducted by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) stated that these posts were being artificially spread and confirmed that Bathinda airfield is fully operational, with no damage whatsoever.

In a post on X, the PIB stated, “Viral claim about Bathinda on social media! Posts are being artificially spread, claiming that Bathinda Airfield has been destroyed! #PIBFactCheck Fake alert! The Bathinda Airfield is fully operational and there is no damage whatsoever. Don’t fall for misinformation. Stay informed, stay alert.”

Additionally, the PIB fact-checked an old video that was being incorrectly shared as footage of a missile strike on New Delhi Airport. The video, which was widely circulated, claimed that a heavy missile had struck New Delhi Airport.

The fact-check revealed that the clip actually depicted a gas station explosion in Aden, Yemen, from August 2024.

The PIB’s post on X clarified, “Missile attack on Delhi Airport? An old video is being falsely shared as footage of a missile strike on New Delhi Airport. #PIBFactCheck This video shows a gas station explosion in Aden, Yemen, from August 2024. It has no connection to the current India-Pakistan situation.”

The PIB also shared a YouTube link to the original video.

The PIB fact check has urged people to stay alert and verify everything before sharing.

Earlier in the day, the PIB fact-checked a few other viral posts and found them to be fake and fraudulently used.

Posts on social media claim that an Indian pilot ejected from a fighter jet over Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK).

“Indian Pilot Ejected Over PoK? Here’s the Truth! Posts on social media claim that an Indian pilot ejected from a fighter jet over Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK). #PIBFactCheck This claim is FAKE. Don’t fall for misinformation. Always verify before sharing,” PIB wrote in a post on X.

The PIB also attached the report from where the image was taken.

PIB fact-checkers confirmed that several videos and images being circulated are not related to the ongoing military situation.
