Air India flight from San Francisco to Mumbai suffers technical snag, passengers deboarded in Kolkata

Kolkata, June 17 (IANS) An Air India Flight from San Francisco to Mumbai via Kolkata was halted at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata early Tuesday morning after a technical snag was detected in one of its engines.

The flight (AI-180) landed at Kolkata Airport at around 12.45 a.m. It was supposed to take off for Mumbai at 2 a.m. and land at Mumbai airport at 4.50 a.m.

However, the flight could not take off from Kolkata Airport in time because of technical snags detected in one of its engines. Finally, at around 5.20 a.m., the captain of the flight requested the passengers to disembark from the flight.

The captain also informed the passengers that the decision was being taken in the interest of flight safety.

After the passenger disembarked, the plane was taken to the airport tarmac. Thereafter, the members of the ground staff and the technical staff started checking the technical difficulties arising in one of the engines of the plane.

All the passengers are reportedly safe. As per the last report available, AI-180 is still at Kolkata Airport undergoing technical checks. An alternative flight is reportedly being arranged for the passengers travelling by AI-180.

To recall, on June 12, an Air India flight crashed en route from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick Airport. It crashed into a hostel of doctors, moments after taking off from Ahmedabad airport, killing all but one passenger.

Again this week, Air India Express flight IX 1511 was detected with a fault before departing from Hindon Airport in Uttar Pradesh for Kolkata. The error was discovered when the pilot was preparing to take off from the runway.

The plane was stuck on the runway for about an hour due to the turbulence. However, the plane later departed for its destination.

Now, on early Tuesday morning, AI-180 could not take off from Kolkata Airport following technical snags in one of its engines.

Speaking to IANS, Sandeep Dikshit highlighted the key issues in the area, particularly unemployment. He criticised both AAP and BJP for neglecting the concerns of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) employees.

“The biggest problem here is unemployment. Earlier, 7,800 people were employed in NDMC, but now those jobs are no longer available. Even compensatory jobs for employees’ families have stopped. Kejriwal, who was part of NDMC, never addressed this issue.

“Similarly, the BJP, which oversees NDMC under the Union Home Ministry, failed to act. Rahul Gandhi has assured us that he will raise these issues in Parliament,” Dikshit said.

Residents also voiced concerns about housing and employment.

Sunita, a local resident, shared with IANS, “We asked for proper housing and employment opportunities for our children. Rahul Gandhi promised to ensure these issues are addressed. We are hopeful that he will make this happen.”

Another resident, Suman, expressed similar sentiments, and told IANS, “We need homes and jobs for our children. Rahul Gandhi assured us that our demands would be fulfilled as soon as the Congress wins the Assembly elections.”

Later in the day, LoP Gandhi is scheduled to address rallies in Patparganj and Okhla as the Congress intensifies its campaign for the Delhi Assembly elections.

The Delhi Assembly elections are set for February 5, with results to be announced on February 8.

Renukaswamy murder case: SC issues notice to Darshan on K’taka govt’s plea to cancel bail (Ld)

Bengaluru, Jan 24 (IANS) The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to Kannada actor Darshan, his partner Pavithra Gowda and five others in connection with the appeal petition filed by the Karnataka government challenging an order that granted bail in connection with a sensational fan murder case.

The bench comprising Justice J.B. Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan issued a notice seeking responses from seven accused in the case, including Darshan and Pavithra Gowda. The court has directed them to file a response within four weeks.

Siddarth Luthra, the counsel for Darshan, argued that the Karnataka High Court has completely “white-washed” the entire case.

Commenting on the appeal filed by the Karnataka Police challenging the granting of bail to Kannada superstar Darshan in connection with the sensational fan murder case that is coming up before the Supreme Court on Friday, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated that the police department has done its work.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, while answering a question in this regard, Parameshwara said: “We have done our work. The police have submitted relevant documents and materials to the Supreme Court through the advocate.”

“We will see what would be the verdict in the Supreme Court over the petition by the Karnataka Police and then contemplate future action,” he maintained.

Advocate Anil C. Nishani has filed the plea on behalf of the Karnataka government.

Darshan has been maintaining a low profile after obtaining bail.

While granting bail, the court asked him and other accused in the case to appear before it every month.

The counsel for Darshan had argued while obtaining medical bail that if the surgery was not conducted, the actor would suffer a stroke. However, till date, there is no news of surgery being conducted on Darshan after he came out of prison.

However, the court had granted him regular bail later.

Darshan, Pavithra, and 15 others were arrested on June 11, 2024 on charges of kidnapping and brutally murdering Renukaswamy, a fan from Chitradurga.

Renukaswamy had allegedly sent derogatory and obscene messages to Pavithra Gowda, angry over the fact that Darshan maintained a relationship with her despite being married.

Darshan was released from prison on October 30, 2024 after spending 131 days in custody.

Pavithra Gowda, the prime accused in the case is known as Darshan’s longtime companion.

Sources close to Darshan revealed that Pavithra Gowda competed with Darshan’s wife, Vijayalaxmi, over jewellery and luxury cars.

She allegedly pressurised Darshan to make public appearances with her after he had been seen with his wife.

Pavithra and Vijayalaxmi also had public spats via social media posts, which led Darshan’s fans to take sides.

Renukaswamy, who supported Vijayalaxmi, criticised Pavithra, which ultimately led to his brutal death, according to police findings.

PM Modi committed to upliftment of Sanatan Dharma: Spiritual leader on his Maha Kumbh visit

Prayagraj, Feb 5 (IANS) Gita Manishi Mahamandleshwar Swami Gyananand Ji Maharaj on Wednesday expressed deep admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his visit to the Maha Kumbh for holy dip in Maa Ganga and said that this showed his unwavering commitment to the upliftment of Sanatan Dharma.

Speaking to IANS, Mahamandleshwar Swami Gyananand Ji Maharaj emphasised the significance of PM Modi’s sacred dip in the Triveni Sangam, saying, “It is a monumental act that the Prime Minister came to Prayagraj and took a dip in the holy Triveni Sangam. His action not only elevates the pride of Sanatan Dharma but also sends a strong message that he is committed to its upliftment. He did not seek any special privileges or treatment. This gesture is a clear reflection of his deep respect for the values of our ancient faith.”

Swami Gyananand further praised PM Modi for demonstrating true humility and devotion, qualities that resonate deeply with the essence of Sanatan Dharma.

“This is the mark of a true Sanatani,” he further remarked.

“Unlike others who seek attention, PM Modi came here with pure devotion, bathing alongside common pilgrims without seeking any special facilities. For someone in such a high position to do this speaks volumes about his genuine faith and commitment.”

He also stated that India needs leaders like PM Modi who embody such humility and spiritual dedication, especially in a country as rich in religious and cultural traditions as India.

Responding to remarks made by Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan regarding the Ganga water being allegedly contaminated due to the tragic stampede, Swami Gyananand urged for a more positive outlook.

“Yes, the stampede was a tragic incident, and we all mourn the loss of lives,” he said.

“But we should not politicise such matters. The Maha Kumbh is a sacred event, and while sympathy is important, it is crucial that we focus on the positivity it brings. We should encourage people to visit and take the holy dip, as it holds immense spiritual significance.”

Swami Gyananand Ji Maharaj also lauded the philanthropic efforts of the Adani Group in providing Mahaprasad (sacred offerings) for the devotees.

“The Adani Group’s contribution to the Maha Kumbh is exemplary,” he said.

“Their efforts to provide free services to the pilgrims are truly commendable. We hope that other industrialists follow suit, helping to provide better facilities and arrangements for the devotees. Their generosity should be appreciated, and we look forward to seeing such initiatives continue.”

The Maha Kumbh Mela, which brings millions of pilgrims from across the world, is not only a spiritual gathering but also a reminder of the importance of faith, humility, and community. At the Triveni Sangam, the ritual of bathing in the holy waters is believed to cleanse sins, break the cycle of rebirth, and grant Moksha, or spiritual liberation.
