Andhra Pradesh eyes Rs 9.8 lakh crore investment at Vizag Partnership Summit

Amaravati, Nov 3 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh government will sign MoUs worth Rs 9.8 lakh crore during the 30th CII Partnership Summit to be held in Visakhapatnam on November 14 and 15.

Minister for HR, IT and Electronics Nara Lokesh said on Monday that 410 MoUs will be signed during the summit.

He claims Andhra Pradesh stands in the number one position in attracting investments and industrial giants are looking towards Andhra Pradesh for investments, attracted by the speed of doing business, visionary leadership and industry-friendly double engine ‘sarkar’.

Addressing media persons at the camp office here, he stated that the CII partnership summit will not be confined to mere investments but will emerge as a global platform for discussions on future challenges and opportunities for the industrial sector.

He said that the NDA government is committed to providing 20 lakh jobs as part of the super six promises and is working in a mission mode to fulfil the promise.

Lokesh said Andhra Pradesh attracted investments to the tune of 10 lakh crore in the last 16 months. He said all global companies, including Google, Mittal, TCS, Cognizant, Premier Energy, are choosing Andhra Pradesh for a single reason: of speed of doing business being adopted by visionary leader Chandrababu Naidu.

He pointed out that Arcelor Mittal has committed an investment of Rs 1.5 lakh crore, while Google will be investing 15 billion dollars in Visakhapatnam.

Minister Lokesh revealed that 300 global industrial giants from 45 countries will participate in the CII summit. He said 72 international speakers will deliver their speeches, and 48 business sessions and 22 technical sessions will be organised.

He said the state government believes in the development of all regions and, as part of it, giving priority to a cluster-based approach to develop different sectors in different regions. He said that with vertical and horizontal integration of both industries and education, the state government will give preference to utilise the talent of youth and generate employment.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who is on a private visit to London, announced the signing of an MoU between the government of Andhra Pradesh and the Hinduja Group, marking a cumulative investment of Rs 20,000 crore to accelerate “our state’s industrial and clean energy growth”.

“The MoU was signed in the presence of Ashok P. Hinduja, Chairman, Hinduja Group; Prakash Hinduja, Chairman, Hinduja Group Europe; and Vivek Nanda, CEO, Hinduja Investments and Project Services Ltd,” Naidu posted on X.

Key initiatives under the MoU include power expansion in Visakhapatnam. It will expand the existing 1,050 MW HNPCL plant by an additional 1,600 MW (2×800 MW) to ensure reliable power for industries.

It will develop large solar and wind projects in Rayalaseema to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s clean energy capacity.

A state-of-the-art electric bus and light-vehicle plant will come up at Mallavalli, Krishna, to boost sustainable mobility.

The company will also deploy a network of charging stations across Andhra Pradesh to support the green transport ecosystem.

NHRC plans 2-day Camp Sitting in Bhubaneswar starting July 21

New Delhi, July 19 (IANS) Complaints on crimes against women and children and attacks on journalists are expected to top the agenda as the NHRC gears up to hold a two-day Camp Sitting in Bhubaneswar on July 21 and 22, an official said on Saturday

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairperson Justice V. Ramasubramanian will lead his team to hear the cases of alleged human rights violations from 10 a.m. at State Guest House Unit 5 in Keshari Nagar.

Other rights panel functionaries at the sitting include members Justice (Dr) Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi, Vijaya Bharathi Sayani and Priyank Kanoongo.

NHRC Secretary General Bharat Lal, Registrar (Law)Joginder Singh and other senior officers will also be attending the Camp Sitting and open hearing.

Besides hearing cases, the Camp Sitting aims to sensitise officers about human rights by delivering speedy justice to victims of rights violations.

The Commission will also interact with the representatives of civil society organisations, NGOs and Human Rights Defenders (HRDs).

The State authorities and the complainants have been asked to remain present at the hearing of these cases to facilitate on-the-spot deliberations and decisions.

The cases to be taken up include attacks on journalists, HRDs and their families; crimes against women; crimes against children including under the POCSO Act; death due to snake bites and lack of medical support; flooding issues faced by over five families in Bhadrak, Kendrapada and other costal districts; human rights violations due to witchcraft and sorcery accusation, and trafficking of girl child during Covid-19 period.

After the hearing of the cases, the Commission will meet with the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and other senior officers of the state to deliberate on issues pertaining to the promotion and protection of human rights, said a statement.

On July 22, the Commission will meet representatives of civil society organisations, NGOs and HRDs. “Thereafter, a media briefing will be held about the outcome of the camp sitting to have a wider dissemination of information on the human rights issues in the State and the actions taken by the NHRC,” said the official statement.

Since 2007, the NHRC has been holding camp sittings across the country. The Commission has held camp sittings in various states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Odisha, Gujarat, Assam, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Manipur, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Kerala, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Andaman and Nicobar, Nagaland, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.

Manjhi-Kushwaha meeting in Delhi sparks buzz amid Bihar NDA seat sharing talks

New Delhi, July 24 (IANS) Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) patron and Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and Rashtriya Lok Morcha President Upendra Kushwaha met at Manjhi’s official residence in New Delhi on Thursday, triggering speculation about the NDA’s seat-sharing strategy and poll preparations.

While both parties termed it a “formal meeting,” the timing and context have given it significant political weight within NDA circles.

According to sources, the primary focus of the discussion was Chirag Paswan’s growing assertiveness within the NDA and how his recent strategies in Bihar have strengthened his position.

The leaders assessed Chirag’s influence on seat-sharing and electoral strategy and deliberated on ensuring their own positions within the alliance remain strong.

Both Manjhi and Kushwaha are seeking a fair share in seat distribution within the NDA, wary of being overshadowed by Chirag’s demands.

Jitan Ram Manjhi has demanded 20 seats in the upcoming assembly elections for HAM. Currently, HAM has four MLAs in the Bihar Assembly and one Lok Sabha MP.

Upendra Kushwaha is seeking 10 assembly seats for his Rashtriya Lok Morcha. Kushwaha himself is currently a Rajya Sabha MP from the BJP’s quota.

In comparison, Chirag Paswan’s LJP (Ram Vilas) currently has five Lok Sabha MPs, giving him leverage in NDA negotiations.

The meeting gains significance as Upendra Kushwaha recently advised Nitish Kumar to hand over JDU’s leadership to his son Nishant, signalling internal discomfort within the alliance.

Kushwaha also acknowledged that complaints against the Nitish government were increasing, although he maintained that people still have faith in the NDA over the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan).

Jitan Ram Manjhi said on social media that they discussed the current political situation of Bihar in detail.

As Bihar elections are approaching, and the NDA’s seat-sharing formula remains unsettled, Manjhi and Kushwaha are cautious about maintaining their negotiating power against Chirag Paswan’s demands.

The meeting signals NDA’s internal realignment efforts to prevent friction before the elections.

OBC reservation issue: MP govt to hold meet with advocates ahead of SC’s day-to-day hearing

Bhopal, Aug 28 (IANS) After adopting a formal resolution to ensure full 27 per cent reservation for OBCs, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Thursday that the government has decided to hold a meeting with the advocates of all parties before September 10.

Earlier in the day, a formal resolution was unanimously adopted by Madhya Pradesh’s political leadership, marking a decisive shift in the state’s legal and administrative posture ahead of upcoming Supreme Court hearings.

The resolution, backed by all major parties, affirms that the remaining 13 per cent of the quota — beyond the 14 per cent already implemented — must be secured through coordinated legal strategy and judicial affirmation, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said after an all-party meeting.

The meeting was held in the morning at Chief Minister Yadav’s residence, where representatives from the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and Samajwadi Party joined the ruling BJP in endorsing the quota.

“All parties are unanimously democratic in ensuring 27 per cent reservation to the Other Backward Classes,” CM Yadav declared after the meeting, framing the consensus as both a political and constitutional imperative.

With multiple petitions pending before the Supreme Court, the issue remains sub judice.

“The Apex Court is scheduled to begin day-to-day hearings from September 23. In preparation, the state has called for a joint session of legal experts before September 10 to harmonise arguments and ensure that no eligible section within the OBC community is left out of the reservation framework,” he said.

“We have reiterated this in the state Assembly earlier, and now we are united in our resolve to see it through,” CM Yadav said, adding that all advocates involved in the case will align their submissions to reflect the resolution’s intent.
