Army’s Central Command honours 18 ‘Veer Naris’ at Dogra Regimental Centre in Ayodhya

Ayodhya, Feb 22 (IANS) At the 18th Reunion of the Indian Army’s Dogra Regiment, the Dogra Regimental Centre in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya, paid a heartfelt tribute to 18 ‘Veer Naris’ (widows of Armed Forces personnel), honouring the enduring spirit of sacrifice and service that defines the Regiment’s glorious legacy, an official said on Sunday.

“The solemn ceremony was graced by Rita Vij, the wife of former Chief of Army Staff General Nirmal Chander Vij, and Lakshmi Bhuvan, the wife of Lieutenant General VMB Krishnan,” the official said in a statement.

“The ‘Veer Naris’ were felicitated as a mark of deep respect and gratitude. The occasion reflected shared military traditions, unbreakable bonds and the timeless ethos of “Duty Before Self”. More than life partners of Brave Hearts, these ‘Veer Naris’ are the living embodiment of Dogra pride and resilience,” the statement said on social media.

“Through courage, perseverance and quiet strength, they continue to uphold the Regiment’s honour across generations,” it added.

“Addressing the gathering, the Commandant affirmed that ‘Veer Naris’ remain the unseen force behind every hero, inspiring the Regiment to carry forward its legacy with dignity and resolve. “Jai Jwala, Jai Dogra”,” it said.

In another event of the Central Command of the Indian Army, one of India’s three living Param Vir Chakra awardee, Honorary Captain Sanjay Kumar, inspired students to serve the nation.

Honorary Captain Sanjay Kumar continues to inspire generations of defence aspirants and serving armed personnel.

At Army Public School No. 2 at Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), he inspired students with his stories of courage and patriotism.

“Valour, dedication and duty towards the nation are key to success,” he said.

His inspiring words on courage, perseverance and devotion to the nation left an indelible impact and ignited the spirit of patriotism and determination among the young minds to dream big and achieve excellence, a statement issued by the Army’s Central Command said.

“In an era of evolving security challenges, Honorary Captain Sanjay Kumar’s story serves as a testament to the valour that defines the Indian Armed Forces,” the message issued by the Army’s Central Command said.

‘Vote theft very important issue for INDIA bloc’: Priyanka Chaturvedi on J&K CM’s remarks

New Delhi, Dec 16 (IANS) Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Tuesday asserted that the issue of alleged “vote theft” remains a key concern for her party within the INDIA bloc, responding to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s remark that the matter is essentially a Congress issue.

“Omar Abdullah leads his party and is expressing his party’s opinion,” Chaturvedi said. “As far as my party is concerned, in the context of the INDIA bloc, the issue of vote theft is very important for us.” She stressed that concerns raised by her party were based on detailed assessments rather than political rhetoric.

Referring to a recent press conference by Shiv Sena(UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray, Chaturvedi said, “Aditya Thackeray himself, in his press conference, referred to his own conference and explained how voter additions took place. There were additions at the same addresses, with the same photographs, and thousands of such additions occurred.”

She added that the data was presented booth-wise, highlighting what she described as a serious lack of accountability. “So yes, voter additions and deletions are happening, and there is no accountability for it,” she said.

Her comments come amid a broader debate within the opposition alliance after Omar Abdullah said that the Congress’ campaign against ‘vote chori’ had nothing to do with the INDIA bloc. Abdullah had stated that every political party has the freedom to decide its own political agenda and emphasised that the alliance should not be automatically linked to the Congress’ stand on the issue.

Backing the Congress’ broader ideological position, Congress MP Sukhdeo Bhagat said the debate goes beyond electoral outcomes. “When Rahul Gandhi launched the Bharat Jodo Yatra, our Congress Party stood for the values of our freedom movement — nation-building and even today, protecting institutions and uniting the country,” Bhagat said.

He added that while coalition partners may express differing views, Rahul Gandhi’s position reflects Congress’ core ideology. “This is not just about alleged vote theft; it is about upholding constitutional values and ensuring the proper functioning of our institutions,” Bhagat said.

Meanwhile, on J&K CM’s ‘vote chori is Congress issue’ remark, BJP MLA Ram Kadam says, “There is a political coalition, and in recent days we have seen that one leader speaks one thing and another leader says something else. There is no consistency, no unity of opinion. How will they run the country if they cannot even agree among themselves? That is why, for the third time, we came to power, and the people of the country elected our Prime Minister Modi.”

The contrasting remarks underline differing emphases within the INDIA bloc on how the issue of electoral integrity should be framed publicly. While some allies view it as a party-specific campaign, others, including Shiv Sena(UBT) and the Congress, insist that concerns over voter additions, deletions, and institutional accountability warrant collective attention.

Haryana govt protector of criminals: Congress MP Surjewala

New Delhi, June 18 (IANS) Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Randeep Singh Surjewala, launched a sharp attack on the Haryana government, accusing it of being a “protector of criminals” and failing to maintain law and order in the state.

Citing a recent media report on the alleged criminal-administration nexus in the state, Surjewala claimed that the BJP-ruled state has become a hub of organised crime, mafia operations, and lawlessness under the leadership of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.

Taking to social media platform X, Surjewala wrote, “Under BJP’s rule, criminals roam free while the public lives in fear. Haryana’s image has been reduced to that of a gangster state, where mafias, goons, and criminals dictate terms while the police and administration look the other way.”

According to the Congress leader, crimes such as extortion, daylight murders, and threats have become routine, while police effectiveness has eroded severely.

“Today, the law and order situation in Haryana has completely collapsed. Gangsters are calling the shots even from inside jails, which now function like their personal offices,” he said.

“Criminals sitting abroad are now orchestrating crimes in Haryana through their henchmen. Social media is being used to spread fear, and extortion has become the biggest business under the Saini government,” Surjewala added.

He alleged that the BJP government is providing indirect patronage to criminals, allowing a parallel mafia regime to flourish.

“Haryana is no longer safe. The common man is living under a shadow of fear. Crime has become sophisticated, organised and emboldened due to political protection,” he said.

Referring to a media report, he said that it exposes the alleged nexus between the criminals and the ruling dispensation.

While the Haryana government is yet to respond to Surjewala’s remarks, the Opposition is likely to raise the issue in the coming days.

It is pertinent to note here that Haryana’s CM Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the law and order situation and the ongoing excise auctions in the state.
