Bengaluru Minister Acts Within Minutes to Address Public Grievance Over Unfinished Drainage Work

BENGALURU: Delays in BBMP’s civic works have been causing widespread inconvenience across the city, with stalled drainage repairs becoming a serious safety hazard in several localities. One such issue in N.S. Palya, under the BTM Assembly constituency, prompted swift intervention from Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Saturday.

The repair work on drains and footpaths along N.S. Palya 7th Main Road in Ward No. 181 had been left incomplete for four to five months, leaving large open ditches on footpaths. The negligence by contractors had already led to incidents of pedestrians falling and sustaining injuries.

Repeated complaints to BBMP officials had failed to yield results. However, when a resident sent a photo of the hazardous site to local MLA Ramalinga Reddy via WhatsApp, the minister acted within 10 minutes. He dispatched ward president Nagaraj to the spot, who arranged for a JCB to carry out temporary repairs and secure the site.

Reddy also directed officials and party leaders to personally visit households affected by such civic negligence and check on their well-being. He further warned officials to ensure that development works do not endanger public safety.
