Delhi CM Rekha Gupta presents one-year report card in South Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 28 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, on Saturday, visited the South Delhi Lok Sabha constituency as part of the ‘Pravas’ outreach programme and presented the state government’s one-year report card.

She said that over the past year, the Delhi government has taken several significant steps towards development, good governance and prosperity, advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”.

The Chief Minister added that after 27 years, the BJP government formed in Delhi has adopted service as the core mantra of governance, treating power not as a means of comfort but as an instrument of public service.

She said that under the guidance of the Prime Minister and through the tireless efforts of dedicated party workers, Delhi is witnessing renewed momentum in development.

Drawing inspiration from the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, the Chief Minister noted that a strong foundation has been laid for a developed Delhi, upon which a prosperous capital will be built.

Chief Minister Gupta said that the state government aims to build a Delhi where every facility reaches the last person in the queue; where the city becomes clean and pollution-free; where the mountains of garbage are eliminated; and where the capital is freed from long-standing mismanagement.

She noted that over the past year, the South Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, along with the entire city, has been integrated into the mainstream of development, with accelerated progress in infrastructure, healthcare, education, transport, sanitation and welfare schemes.

She emphasised that “service is our value, service is our resolve, and service is our goal”.

“Guided by the mantra “Jan Seva hi Rashtra Seva”, the Delhi government has transformed public trust into tangible development.”

This report card of the state government’s performance since the last one year, Chief Minister Gupta said, is not merely a document of achievements but a reflection of the direction and vision for Delhi’s bright future.

On the occasion, South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri; North West Delhi MP Yogender Chandolia; BJP MLA from Bijwasan Kailash Gahlot; BJP MLA from Palam, Kuldeep Solanki; BJP MLA from Chhatarpur, Kartar Singh Tanwar; BJP MLA from Sangam Vihar, Chandan Chaudhary; former BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri; party office-bearers and a large number of local residents were present.

Under this scheme, if someone dies due to natural causes or in an accident, then their family gets a compensation of Rs 2 lakh. The government has started this very wonderful scheme. No matter whatsoever is the reason for death, the family definitely gets the benefit of this scheme. For this, only Rs 436 annual premium has to be paid, which is affordable for everyone.”

He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that this is an excellent and very useful scheme for the poor. The general public is taking full advantage of this scheme. He appealed to everyone to avail the scheme.

UCO Bank manager Ayodhya Kumar said, “Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana is an ambitious and welfare scheme of the Central Government, which provides financial security to the poor and middle-class people. We are connecting people to this scheme through our bank and making them aware of its benefits.”

Delhi-NCR braces for wet week, IMD warns of heavy rains; rivers swell

New Delhi, Sep 5 (IANS) The national Capital and its adjoining regions are bracing for another spell of heavy rains. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continuous showers across Delhi-NCR between September 5 and September 10.

According to the weather department, moderate rainfall with normal cloud cover is expected on September 5, while September 6 and 7 are likely to witness heavy rains accompanied by thunder and lightning.

After a brief respite on September 8 with partly cloudy skies in the afternoon and evening, the IMD says, torrential downpours may return on September 9 again with thunder and lightning. Skies will remain partly cloudy on September 10.

Meteorologists warn that this fresh spell could last for an entire week, keeping the mercury between 34-35 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature between 23-25 degrees Celsius.

Humidity levels ranging from 55 to 90 per cent are expected to add to discomfort, making conditions sticky and oppressive for Delhi-NCR residents.

The persistent rainfall has already pushed up the water levels of the Yamuna and Hindon rivers, triggering flooding around the banks, though water levels in Yamuna receded a little bit on Friday.

Officials said that over 43 villages in low-lying areas in Delhi-NCR have been affected, with many residents evacuated to safer locations. District administrations have deployed relief and rescue teams across vulnerable zones to provide assistance.

Experts caution that if the intensity of rainfall increases further, waterlogging and flooding could become critical.

Daily life is already hampered in several NCR cities due to severe traffic jams and waterlogged roads, and fresh downpours may worsen the situation.

Authorities have appealed to citizens to avoid venturing into low-lying or flooded areas and to strictly follow IMD warnings.

People have also been advised to take precautions against lightning strikes by staying away from open spaces during thunderstorms.

Indian Naval Chief visits Centre for Excellence in Disaster Management in Hawaii

Washington, Nov 17 (IANS) Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi visited the Centre for Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii, where he was briefed on the Centre’s vision, lines of efforts, and its initiatives in Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR) capacity building and regional cooperation.

Taking to social media platform X, the Indian Navy posted on Monday, “During the ongoing official visit to USA, Admiral Dinesh K Tripath, CNS visited the Centre for Excellence in Disaster Management & Humanitarian Assistance. CNS was briefed on the Centre’s vision, Lines of Efforts, and initiatives in HADR, capacity building & regional cooperation.”

“Discussions focused on enhancing collaboration & exchange of best practices between India and the US in disaster response, Maritime Humanitarian operations, and resilience building across the Indo-Pacific. The visit underscored shared commitment to strengthening regional preparedness and humanitarian partnerships,” it added.

Earlier on Sunday, Admiral Tripathi also visited the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Daniel Inouye, during which he received a briefing about the destroyer’s modifications, multi-mission versatility, and advanced maritime surveillance systems.

He also visited Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam and was briefed on operational capabilities, ongoing initiatives of the US Pacific Fleet, and units based at the joint facility.

According to the Indian Navy’s statement, the visit of Admiral Tripathi demonstrates the importance of strengthening interoperability and enhancing operational synergy between the maritime forces of the two nations.

The Indian Naval Chief is currently in the US for an official visit aimed at strengthening the robust and enduring maritime partnership between the navies of India and the US, a key pillar of the Defence Partnership between the two nations.

Last week, Admiral Tripathi held a series of high-level discussions with top US military officials in a step towards enhancing maritime cooperation between the two nations.

He met Admiral Samuel J Paparo, Commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command, Admiral Stephen T Koehler, Commander of the US Pacific Fleet, and Lieutenant General James F Glynn, Commander of US Marine Forces Pacific.

“The interactions reaffirmed the enduring partnership between the Indian Navy and US Navy, as well as the growing synergy with US Marine and joint forces — anchored in mutual trust, shared values, and a common commitment to a free, open, inclusive, and rules-based Indo-Pacific,” the Indian Navy’s spokesperson posted on X.
