Delhi Records Minimum Temperature of 7.6 Degrees Celsius, Air Quality Improves

New Delhi: Delhi experienced a drop in temperature as the national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 7.6 degrees Celsius on Friday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This temperature was four notches below the seasonal average.

In contrast to the previous days where the minimum temperature hovered around 12 degrees, the maximum temperature ranged between 25 to 27 degrees.

The IMD’s forecast for Friday indicated that the maximum temperature was expected to remain around 27 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature could dip to approximately 8 degrees Celsius again. The weather department also predicted a “mainly clear sky” throughout the day.

In terms of air quality, several stations across the city reported readings falling in the ‘poor’ and ‘moderate’ categories, a notable improvement from the ‘very poor’ and ‘poor’ AQI observed last week. For instance, in the Anand Vihar area, PM2.5 levels were measured at 300, categorizing it as ‘poor’, while PM10 reached 260, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

The Air Quality Index (AQI) scale categorizes pollution levels, with readings between zero and 50 considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 to 500 ‘severe’.

At the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport (T3), PM2.5 levels were recorded at 137, indicating a ‘moderate’ level, while PM10 stood at 122. Similarly, Dwarka Sector 8 witnessed PM2.5 levels at 180, also falling under the ‘moderate’ category.
