Delhi Shivers as Temperature Plummets to 6.8 Degrees Celsius

New Delhi: Delhi, the national capital, experienced a chilly Friday as the mercury dipped to 6.8 degrees Celsius, marking a significant departure from the seasonal average, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Just a week ago, temperatures were relatively warmer at around 12 degrees, but Thursday saw a further drop with the minimum temperature recorded at 8.2 degrees.

According to IMD’s forecast on Wednesday, the maximum temperature was expected to hover around 22 degrees, with the minimum dipping back to around 7 degrees.

The IMD predicts a “mainly clear sky” throughout the day, although despite the sunny weather, residents of Delhi continue to grapple with a biting cold breeze, prompting many to seek warmth around bonfires at night.

Air quality, a persistent concern for Delhi, showed signs of improvement at 9 a.m., with several monitoring stations reporting levels falling under the ‘satisfactory’ and ‘moderate’ categories. This comes as a surprise after days of enduring ‘very poor’ and ‘severe’ conditions.

In the Anand Vihar area, PM2.5 levels at 9 a.m. were recorded in the ‘poor’ category at 218, while PM10 stood at 289, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
