Delivery boy killed by speeding car in Delhi’s Subhash Nagar

New Delhi, Feb 21 (IANS) A delivery executive lost his life after being struck by a speeding car in West Delhi’s Subhash Nagar area in the early hours of Saturday, officials said.

According to police, the accident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. when a fast-moving car rammed into the motorcycle being ridden by the delivery boy. The impact was so severe that he died on the spot.

On receiving information about the incident, police teams rushed to the scene and began an investigation. The offending vehicle has been seized, and the accused driver has been taken into custody.

The victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Officials said that further investigation into the circumstances leading to the crash is underway.

The incident comes close on the heels of another fatal road accident in the national Capital earlier this month near Lal Bahadur Shastri College in Dwarka South, where a man was killed after an SUV allegedly driven by a minor without a licence collided head-on with his motorcycle.

Sahil Dhaneshra (23) died on February 3 after a Scorpio SUV, reportedly being driven by a 17-year-old, crashed into his motorcycle near the college.

Allegations raised by the victim’s mother claimed that the minor was filming social media reels while speeding shortly before the collision.

The force of the crash also caused the SUV to hit a parked cab, leaving its driver seriously injured. The minor, who did not possess a valid driving licence, was apprehended and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which sent him to an observation home.

He was subsequently granted interim bail on February 10 to allow him to appear for his Class 10 Board examinations.

Delhi Police registered a case under Sections 281 (rash driving), 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 125(a) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

During the investigation, the minor’s father was detained and later released, with police indicating that he would be named in the chargesheet under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Police said the probe established that the Scorpio was being driven by the minor at the time of the accident and that he did not hold a valid driving licence. Further investigation into the case is continuing.

Somanath, on Sunday said that setbacks have served to refine our resolve and deepen our scientific rigour, as the Indian space agency’s 101st mission, PSLV-C61 carrying the EOS-09 satellite, faced a technical malfunction in the launch vehicle.

In a post on the social media platform X, Somanath said that true to its indomitable spirit, ISRO “will swiftly assemble its finest minds to dissect the anomaly and chart a meticulous course forward”.

“I am aware of the formidable challenges we faced during the development of the third-stage solid motor — an endeavour marked by multiple failures. It is indeed unusual to witness such anomalies resurfacing at this stage. Nevertheless, I have complete confidence that the team will identify the root cause both swiftly and effectively,” said the former ISRO chief.

The malfunction led to the mission failure, and the satellite could not be successfully deployed. The indigenous PSLV, or Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle — PSLV-C61 — lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota with the aim of placing EOS-09 into a Sun Synchronous Polar Orbit (SSPO).

According to Somanath, over the years, “such challenges have only strengthened our conviction that failure is never defeat, but rather a formidable tutor”.

“Every towering success of ISRO has been forged in the crucible of adversity — shaped by lessons deeply learnt and courageously applied. Setbacks have ever served to refine our resolve and deepen our scientific rigour. Nothing shall deter our pursuit of knowledge, which we carry forward with characteristic poise and unwavering precision,” he mentioned.

According to ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan, an unexpected issue arose during the third stage, preventing the successful deployment of the satellite.

“The PSLV is a four-stage launch vehicle, and its performance was normal up to the second stage. The third stage motor ignited perfectly; however, during its operation, an anomaly was observed, and the mission could not be completed successfully. We will come back after analysis,” he further said.

Bengaluru Metro: MP Surya says 1st Yellow Line train to be dispatched from Bengal on Jan 6

Bengaluru, Jan 2 (IANS) Bengaluru South MP and BJP National Yuva Morcha President Tejasvi Surya said on Thursday that the first train of the Yellow Line of Namma Metro is ready to be dispatched from West Bengal to Bengaluru on January 6.

“It won’t be long before long-awaited Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line starts chugging along. It’s a promise,” he said, indicating that the wait for the commencement of the Yellow Line is going to end soon.

“We now have the first train ready to be dispatched to Bengaluru on January 6. Titagarh Rail Systems has committed to deliver the second train by the end of January or first week of February and the third in April,” Surya announced.

They will deliver one train per month and increase it to two trains per month by September, he added.

Earlier, the MP said, “The main reason for the delay in start of operations is the unavailability of the trains. However, there is some good news finally on this front. Over the last few months, I have been continuously following up with the train manufacturers – Titagarh Rail Systems – to expedite production.”

“The Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) will visit the manufacturing plant on January 6, flag off the train to Bengaluru and also inspect the plant to help further expedite things,” Surya stated.

“I will also be present in Kolkata for the same. Like all of you, I am equally frustrated with the repeated delays in the start of the Yellow Line,” he said.

Bengalureans travelling towards tech hub Electronics City are eagerly waiting for the commercial operation of Yellow Line that connects R.V. Road station to Bommasandra.

This 18.82-kilometer railway line will have 18 stations and promises travelers relief from traffic jams. The Yellow Lane was scheduled to operate in 2024. Earlier, BMRCL had stated that it will launch commercial operations by January-end 2025.

The Yellow Line connects Electronics City — home to IT, BT and tech MNC companies – spread over 800 acres. There are approximately 200 IT/ITES company campuses located in Electronic City, including main campuses of Infosys, Wipro, TCS, HCL, Tech Mahindra and Biocon. It is a major tech hub that has established the city’s reputation as the Silicon Valley of India.

Arunachal Minister visits Tehri Dam in Uttarakhand to study rehabilitation model

Itanagar, Nov 10 (IANS) In a bid to ensure a more humane and inclusive approach to hydropower development, Arunachal Pradesh Women and Child Development Minister Dasanglu Pul on Monday visited the Tehri Dam in Uttarakhand to gain firsthand insights into the Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) policy adopted during its construction.

A senior official said that the visit, aimed at studying best practices for the upcoming 1,200 MW Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh, included an interaction with senior officials of the government-owned THDC India Ltd, led by chief technology officer L. P. Joshi.

Senior officials of the THDC India Ltd, a joint venture company of the Government of India and Uttar Pradesh government, General Manager Vijai Sehgal, Deputy GMs Mohan Singh Sirswal, Ganesh Bhatt and Nand Kishore and officials from the Tehri district administration accompanied the minister.

Minister Pul said the visit provided valuable exposure to land acquisition procedures, livelihood restoration programmes, and socio-economic rehabilitation measures implemented at Tehri, one of India’s tallest and most complex hydropower projects.

“The learnings from Tehri will be crucial in developing a socially responsible and sustainable Relief and Rehabilitation roadmap for the Kalai-II project,” she said.

The Tehri Dam, a 260.5-metre-high rock and earth-fill structure on the Bhagirathi River, generates over 1,000 MW of power and is regarded as an engineering marvel.

The project, executed by THDC India Ltd, has also been lauded for its large-scale resettlement and rehabilitation efforts.

Pul emphasised that Arunachal’s hydropower growth must go hand in hand with community welfare and cultural sensitivity.

“Development cannot come at the cost of people’s livelihoods. Our goal is to balance progress with compassion,” she said.

The Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project, proposed on the Lohit River, is estimated to cost around Rs 14,000 crore.

During a recent public hearing by the Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board, more than 350 villagers from 33 habitations participated, calling for a robust Relief and Rehabilitation plan and transparent compensation measures.

Pul’s visit marks a significant step in aligning Arunachal Pradesh’s ambitious hydropower agenda with sustainable and community-focused development practices, the official said.
