ED starts process of auctioning confiscated property of Sandeshkhali prime accused Shahjahan

Agartala, Jan 29 (IANS) King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow has announced to introduce a gold medal in the name of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha.

KGMU’s Dean Prof. Ranjit Kumar Patil in a letter to Saha informed the varsity’s decision.

“The gold medal would be presented annually to the top-performing student in oral and maxillofacial surgery,” the letter said.

It said: “On the occasion of your auspicious arrival at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dental Sciences, on November 26, 2024, and impressed by your inspiration and contribution to the institution, the Vice Chancellor of King George’s Medical University, has announced the launch of the ‘Chief Minister Tripura (Manik Saha) Gold Medal’ to be awarded to the postgraduate student securing the highest marks in the subject of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery during the university’s convocation.”

Sharing the information on the X, the Chief Minister said: “Nostalgic moment for me. King George’s Medical University, Lucknow, my alma mater, has instituted a Gold Medal in my name for meritorious students excelling in Dental Sciences. I thank the entire KGMU fraternity for this honour.”

Saha who himself is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, served in a key position at the Tripura Medical College and B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital in the state’s capital before becoming Chief Minister on May 15, 2022.

He became Chief Minister for the second time in March 2023. Born on January 8, 1953, Saha completed his Bachelor of Dental Studies programme from Government Dental College in Patna and later pursued a Master of Dental Surgery from King Georges’ Medical College in Lucknow.

With Saha’s personal initiative, Tripura’s first dental college was started in 2022. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the college. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had earlier granted permission to increase the number of seats in the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course in Agartala Government Dental College from 50 to 63 for the 2025-26 academic sessions.

Bengaluru, Feb 9 (IANS) Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will display its light utility helicopter, fighter jet and training aircraft at the five-day Aero India 2025 show which will start at Yelahanka Airforce Station on February 10.

“HAL will showcase its indigenous products and technologies centred on the theme ‘Innovate. Collaborate. Lead’ at Aero India 2025,” said HAL Chairman and Managing Director D K Sunil.

HAL’s major attraction at its indoor pavilion (HALL-E) will be the LUH, Hindustan Turbo Trainer (HTT)-40 Simulator, scaled models of LCA Mk1A fighter, LCA Mk1 Trainer, Hindustan Jet Trainer (HJT)-36, HTT-40, LCH and ALH Mk IV, according to a company statement.

“The flying display will include LCA Mk 1A, HJT 36, HTT40, LUH and the static display will include LCA Mk1 Trainer, Hindustan 228, Do228 and LUH 228,” HAL said.

A functional full-scale engineering demonstrator of Combat Air Teaming System Warrior will be the highlight of the India Pavilion along with Advanced Light Helicopter Next Generation and RUAV.

Aero India 2025 will be held from 10th to 14th February 2025. The first three days are dedicated to business visitors, while the last two days are open to the general public.

The five-day event comprises a curtain raiser event, inaugural event, Defence Ministers’ Conclave, CEOs’ Round-Table, iDEX start-up event, breath-taking air shows, a large exhibition area comprising India Pavilion and a trade fair of aerospace companies.

Aero India is India’s premier aerospace and defence exhibition where global aero vendors and the Indian Air Force (IAF) thrill the spectators with back-to-back aerobatic flying displays.

It is a biennial flagship event that brings together global industry leaders, government officials, technology experts, and defence strategists under one roof. The event not only showcases the nation’s technological prowess and innovations but also provides a dynamic platform for international cooperation and strategic dialogue.

Aero India has evolved into a major international event that not only highlights the latest advancements in aerospace technology but also serves as a critical forum for strategic interactions between domestic and international stakeholders. The show is a reflection of the nation’s commitment to advancing its aerospace and defence capabilities.

The event regularly features demonstrations of state-of-the-art aerospace systems, innovative defence solutions, and breakthrough technologies that are shaping the future of air and space travel.

It also fosters strategic dialogues through high-level interactions, Aero India has provided an arena for discussions on policy, defence collaborations, and the future roadmap of the aerospace sector.

A number of bilateral meetings are planned at the levels of Raksha Mantri, Raksha Rajya Mantri, Chief of Defence Staff and Secretary among others on the sidelines of the event. The focus will be on bolstering the defence and aerospace ties with friendly countries by exploring newer avenues to take the partnership to the next level.

The CEOs’ Round Table is expected to provide a favourable platform to foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for manufacturing in India. Global CEOs, CMDs of domestic PSUs and premier private defence and aerospace manufacturing companies from India will be participating in the event, the statement said.

The India Pavilion will showcase India’s commitment to its Make-in-India initiative by showcasing indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities and cutting-edge technologies ready for the global stage, including future prospects. Promotion of Indian start-ups is a focus area at Aero India 2025 and a wide spectrum of state-of-the-art technologies/products developed by them will be showcased at an exclusive iDEX pavilion.

In addition, dynamic aerobatic displays and live technology demonstrations will provide an immersive experience, showcasing the potential of modern aerospace platforms and technologies. A number of seminars on various important themes are also planned as part of the event, the statement added.

Pilibhit (Uttar Pradesh), Dec 23 (IANS) Three criminals accused of hurling a grenade at police posts in Punjab’s Gurdaspur were killed in an encounter with police in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit early Monday morning, a senior police officer said.

Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav, while sharing details on social media platform X, stated, “In a major breakthrough against a Pak-sponsored Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) terror module, a joint operation by UP Police and Punjab Police led to an encounter with three module members who fired at the police party. This terror module is involved in grenade attacks at police establishments in border areas of Punjab.”

He said that the three suspects were involved in the grenade attack on a police post in Gurdaspur.

Pilibhit Superintendent of Police (SP) Avinash Pandey reported that the gunfight occurred in the Puranpur police station area between the suspected Khalistani terrorists and a joint team of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh Police.

The injured suspects, identified as Gurvinder Singh, Virendra Singh, and Jasanpreet Singh, sustained injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities recovered two AK-series rifles, two Glock pistols, and a large quantity of ammunition from the scene.

“Early this morning, a team from Punjab Police informed Puranpur police station that suspects in a grenade attack on a police post by alleged Khalistani terrorists might be hiding in the area,” SP Pandey said.

Upon receiving this information, police teams immediately launched a blockade and searched the area. They later received a tip-off about three suspicious young men on a motorcycle, riding dangerously and carrying potentially harmful items, heading toward Pilibhit.

“Both Punjab Police and Puranpur police station staff chased the suspects. Meanwhile, Gajrola and Madhav Thanda police stations were alerted about possible escape routes. At a canal track near an under-construction bridge, the suspects opened fire when challenged by the police. In the retaliatory firing, all three were injured and subsequently sent to CSC Puranpur for treatment,” Pandey said.

However, they later succumbed to the injuries.

Recently, multiple explosions targeted police posts in Gurdaspur. On Thursday, a grenade was hurled at the closed Bakshiwal police post.

A day later, another explosion occurred at the closed Wadala Bangar police post, which had also recently shut down due to staff shortages.

Residents in nearby areas reported being shaken by the blasts. At Wadala Bangar, frightened locals emerged from their homes at night only to discover the sound originated from the police station. Following the explosion, police vehicles patrolled the area throughout the night, with sirens blaring.
