Gujarat: India’s first camel milk processing plant procures 5,000 litres (Lead)

Gandhinagar, Jan 20 (IANS) India’s first camel milk processing plant, set up in Gujarat, known by the name of Sarhad Dairy, has procured close to 5,000 litres of milk in the last year, benefitting more than 350 camel farming families.

“In 2024-25, daily camel milk procurement reached 4,754 litres, with an annual payment of Rs 8,72,83,440 made to over 350 camel farming families,” said a state government official.

Notably, the dairy has also earned the primary organic certification for camel milk.

In line with the Amul co-operative model, the camel milk is collected through four centres across Kutch district, namely Rapar, Nakhatrana, Gadhshisha, and Kotda Athamana.

Considered as the white gold of the Rann of Kutch, camel milk is rich in essential minerals, promotes overall health, and strengthens immunity.

Sarhad Dairy came into existence in January 2019 and has since been India’s only and leading camel milk processing plant with advanced machinery.

The dairy is also the only facility in the country producing camel milk Rajbhog-flavoured ice cream. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 22 February 2024, the ice cream plant has already launched 80 varieties within just one year.

In 2024-25, it produced a total of 24.52 lakh litres of ice cream, with a peak dispatch of 58,000 litres.

Sarhad Dairy also gained prominence at the Gulf Food Expo 2025 in Dubai, the world’s largest food show, with its camel milk products at the Amul stall attracting significant attention. The Dairy has received several prestigious awards, including the FOKIA Award 2014 for Social Growth and Infrastructure Development, the Rotary Club Vocational Excellence Award 2017 for developing the Kutch dairy sector, the FOKIA Award 2024 for Excellence in Agritech, and the Green Workplace Award 2025 from VNM TV for sustainability performance.

‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’ is a visionary initiative, initiated and monitored by the Modi government. Under this program, Sarhad Dairy has helped 900 milk societies and 31,067 animal husbandry farmers open accounts at the Kutch District Central Cooperative Bank (KDCC Bank).

To further simplify banking, farmers have been issued RuPay cards, and 438 milk societies have received Micro ATMs.

Justice delivery must be fair, fast and affordable: Tripura CM

Agartala, Aug 23 (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Saturday that judges and advocates must work for the betterment of people, stressing that justice delivery should be fair, fast, accessible and affordable.

Inaugurating the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate and Civil Judge court at Mohanpur in west Tripura district, the Chief Minister added that the judiciary must see that people should not be harassed while seeking justice.

“Maintaining the guidelines of the Supreme Court, all the works have been completed to construct the new Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate court. Tripura has eight district courts, and 15 sub-divisional courts; with Mohanpur, it would be 16. We must go with the times. Keeping Mohanpur Court as a model, we would set up sub-divisional courts in the rest of the sub-divisions,” CM Saha said.

He also added that judges observe the advocates who come to court to see whether they are prepared or not, and based on their preparation, the judges deliver judgments.

Noting that sometimes advocates come to court without proper preparation leading to delayed judgments, the Chief Minister said that when people are in trouble, they come to court and wait for their judgment.

He stressed that advocates and judges must work for the betterment and benefit of the innocent people.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been working for development, security, self-reliance, and progress in every aspect, the Chief Minister said, adding: “We are now progressing day by day. The judiciary plays a key role in the development of the country.”

He also said that the present BJP-led state government would extend necessary assistance to the judiciary and reiterated that justice must be fair, fast, accessible and at an affordable cost.

“We are working to build Viksit Tripura and for that, we launched the vision document on Friday. Economy of Tripura, growth, employment generation, women empowerment, and every sector are progressing due to the good governance. We can see the brighter future of Tripura as the parameters of development are visible and positive in different sectors. Our GSDP has also increased by 14.21 per cent in 2023-24,” he added.

Tripura High Court Chief Justice M.S. Ratna Sri Ramachandra Rao, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Justice T. Amarnath Goud, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Advocate General Shaktimoy Chakraborty, Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar, Law Secretary Sanjoy Bhattacharya, and others were present in the event.

Odisha Assembly’s Winter session to begin with President Murmu’s address on Nov 27

Bhubaneswar, Nov 10 (IANS) The Winter Session of the Odisha Assembly is set to commence on November 27 with an address by the President Droupadi Murmu.

Notably, Droupadi Murmu, before assuming the office of President of India, had served two terms as Member of Legislative Assembly of Odisha between 2000 and 2009 from Rairangpur Assembly constituency in Mayurbhanj district.

She had also held different portfolios as the Ministers of Commerce and Transport, and Fisheries and Animal Resources Development departments during the same period.

This will be her first address to the Odisha Assembly after she assumed office of the President.

According to Assembly sources, the fifth session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly will have 29 working days and is scheduled to conclude on December 31.

As per the schedule, the First Supplementary Statement of Expenditure (Budget) for the 2025–26 financial year will be presented in the House on November 28.

Subsequently, the Appropriation Bill related to the First Supplementary Statement of Expenditure will be introduced and moved in the Assembly on December 8.

Once passed, it will authorise the state government to withdraw the approved additional funds from the consolidated fund of Odisha to implement supplementary allocations.

Political experts claimed that the forthcoming Winter session of the Assembly is likely to witness intense debates between the ruling BJP and the opposition parties, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress over different issues.

The Opposition is likely to corner the state government in the House over issues such as violence against women, rising incidents of crime in the state, the inquiry report on Ratha Yatra stampede, etc.

The Monsoon Session of the Assembly, originally scheduled for seven working days, was adjourned sine die on September 24, a day ahead of its planned conclusion, amid a massive uproar by the opposition parties.

CEC hits back at Rahul Gandhi’s charge, says ‘baseless allegations can’t override law’

New Delhi, Aug 17 (IANS) Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Sunday issued a strong rebuttal to allegations questioning the credibility of the Election Commission of India (ECI), indirectly countering remarks made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over alleged irregularities in Karnataka’s Mahadevapura constituency and in Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Addressing a packed press conference at the National Media Centre in New Delhi, the CEC underlined that the ECI functions under a strict legal framework laid out in the Representation of the People Act (RPA), and political parties or candidates have enough legal recourse to raise objections during the electoral process.

“Every candidate has the right to appoint polling agents, whose lists are already submitted to the polling stations. If a wrong person tries to cast a vote or if someone attempts double voting, polling agents can immediately object. After counting, the Returning Officer declares the results. If anyone has grievances, the law is very clear – you can move the Supreme Court within 45 days to challenge the election,” the CEC explained.

Without naming Rahul Gandhi directly, Kumar said that making accusations months after results are declared, without due process, undermines public trust. “When 45 days have passed and no party or candidate has challenged the results, what is the aim of levelling baseless allegations now? The public understands this,” he said.

The Congress leader had earlier alleged that nearly 1 lakh votes were “manipulated” in the Mahadevapura seat in Karnataka, a claim the ECI has strongly denied. Kumar also detailed the grievance mechanisms available to political parties and citizens.

“Under the RPA, any elector of the constituency can file a complaint by filling Form 6, 7 or 8. Even Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of political parties have the right to submit 10 forms each to the Booth Level Officer. But this requires a sworn oath. If you are not an elector of the constituency, the only way is to submit your complaint as a witness, supported by an oath administered before the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO),” he said.

Asserting that the ECI is a small team of about 800 officials backed by a nationwide administrative machinery, Kumar emphasised: “From Chief Electoral Officer in every state to officers at the booth level, the entire system is prepared to ensure free and fair polls.”

The CEC’s remarks come at a time when the opposition has sharpened its criticism of the Commission ahead of crucial elections in Bihar.
