Jagan condemns actor Posani’s arrest, assures support to family

Amaravati, Feb 27 (IANS) YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy strongly condemned the arrest of actor and party leader Posani Krishna Murali.

Jagan Mohan Reddy spoke over the phone with Posani’s wife, Kusumalatha, who resides in Hyderabad, to offer his consolation.

The YSRCP chief criticised the coalition government in Andhra Pradesh, stating that its administration is being conducted in an authoritarian manner.

He assured Posani’s family that the YSRCP would stand by him in this matter and provide full support. He stated that both the public and divine forces are witnessing the ongoing events and emphasised the need for strength during this challenging time.

Jagan Mohan Reddy said the party would extend legal assistance. The matter has already been entrusted to senior lawyers affiliated with the YSRCP.

Andhra Pradesh Police on Wednesday night arrested Posani from his residence in Hyderabad and shifted him to Annamayya district in connection with a case booked there for alleged derogatory comments against Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.

The 66-year-old was taken to Obulavaripalle Police Station, where a police officer recorded his statement. He was examined by a government doctor in the police station.

Posani will be produced before a court in Railway Koduru later.

The actor was booked two days ago on a complaint by Jana Sena leader Jogineni Mani, who accused him of making derogatory comments against Jana Sena president and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.

A case was booked against Posani under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 196, 353 (2), 111 r/w 3 (5).

Similar cases were booked against Posani at different police stations in the state for alleged derogatory comments against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Minister Nara Lokesh.

In November 2024, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Andhra Pradesh registered a case against Posani on a complaint by Bandaru Vamsikrishna, a leader of Telugu Yuvatha, the youth wing of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

The complainant said that Posani made false allegations and defamatory comments against Chandrababu Naidu during a press conference in September. He alleged that the actor’s comments tarnished the image of the Chief Minister. He also claimed that the comments created discord between groups.

Posani, who also served as the AP Film Development Corporation Chairman when the YSRCP was in power, was booked under sections 111, 196, 353, 299, 341, and 336 (3) of the BNS.

Rashtrapati Bhavan’s Amrit Udyan to open for public from February 2

New Delhi, Jan 21 (IANS) The Amrit Udyan of Rashtrapati Bhavan will open for public viewing from February 2 to March 30, said an official statement on Tuesday.

People can visit the Amrit Udyan, spread over 15 acres, on six days in a week between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., except on Mondays, said the statement from President’s Secretariat.

This edition of Amrit Udyan will be a landscaping marvel where visitors can witness Coleus, Celosia, Tuberose and many other rare seasonal flowers in full glory.

Entry and exit for all visitors will be from Gate No. 35 of the President’s Estate, close to where North Avenue meets Rashtrapati Bhavan. Booking and entry to the garden is free of cost. Booking can be made at https://visit.rashtrapatibhavan.gov.in/. Walk-in entry is also available.

For the convenience of visitors, a shuttle bus service from Central Secretariat Metro Station to Gate No. 35 will be available every 30 minutes between 9.30 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The Amrit Udyan will remain closed on February 5 (due to polling for the Delhi Legislative Assembly), February 20 and 21 (due to the Visitors’ Conference at Rashtrapati Bhavan), and March 14 (on account of Holi).

The Amrit Udyan will be open for special categories of visitors on the following days: March 26 for differently-abled persons, March 27 for personnel of defence, paramilitary and police forces, March 28 for women and tribal women’s SHGs and March 29 for senior citizens

Rashtrapati Bhavan will also host ‘Vividhta Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ as part of Amrit Udyan from March 6 to 9, 2025. This year’s Mahotsav will showcase the rich cultural heritage and unique traditions of Southern India.

Amrit Udyan has often been portrayed as the soul of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Originally, it included the East Lawn, Central Lawn, Long Garden and Circular Garden.

During the term of former Presidents A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Ram Nath Kovind, more gardens were developed, namely, Herbal-I, Herbal-II, Tactile Garden, Bonsai Garden and Arogya Vanam.

The Rashtrapati Bhavan website said that visitors to the Udyan can spend time in multiple attractions, a specially curated garden for children called Bal Vatika with a story of a 225-year-old Sheesham tree, a treehouse and nature’s classroom.

There is also a vibrant food court where visitors can have refreshments and witness ongoing exhibitions, it said.

FIR filed against fans of Tollywood actor Balakrishna for beheading goat

Tirupati, Jan 17 (IANS) Police in Tirupati registered a First Information Report (FIR) against five persons said to be fans of popular Tollywood actor Balakrishna for beheading a goat for the success of his recently released movie ‘Daku Maharaj’.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India said it worked with the Tirupati police to get the FIR registered under sections 325 & 270, read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023; sections 4 & 5, read with 6 & 8 of the Andhra Pradesh Animals and Birds Sacrifices (Prohibition) Act, 1950; and sections 3, 11(1)(a) and 11(1)(l) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

The goat was killed outside Pratap movie theatre, Tata Nagar, Tirupati on January 12, the day when ‘Daku Maharaj’ was released.

The video of the cruel incident was widely shared on social media. The FIR was registered after the offence was reported by a head constable of Tirupati East Police Station on the evening of January 16.

According to PETA India, the video shows men surrounding a frightened goat. The video then shows the goat, fully conscious, being beheaded with a machete and the slaughter taking place in full public view. It also shows a man smearing the blood of the sacrificed goat on the movie poster.

PETA India condemned the incident. “Killing an animal and smearing their blood on a poster doesn’t make you a super fan – it makes you a villain and a criminal. True fans celebrate their favourite stars with movie tickets and supportive social media posts, not with acts of violence or cruelty,” says PETA India Cruelty Response Coordinator Saloni Sakaria.

The organisation commended Tirupati police, especially the Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu, for swiftly registering an FIR and sending the message that cruelty to animals will not be tolerated.

In its complaint, PETA India pointed out that Section 4 of the Andhra Pradesh Animals and Birds Sacrifices (Prohibition) Act, 1950 prohibits any person from officiating, performing, serving, assisting, or participating in sacrificing an animal in any congregation. Section 5 prohibits the use of a place of public religious worship or adoration or its precincts for sacrificing animals by any person in possession of such precinct. Section 6 prescribes the penalties, and Section 8 makes all offences under the Act cognizable.

Delhi Metro to begin services at 3:00 AM on Republic Day

New Delhi, Jan 24 (IANS) In a move to facilitate early access for Republic Day celebrations, Delhi Metro will kickstart its services at 3:00 a.m. on January 26. This will help people travel smoothly to Kartavya Path to witness the grand Republic Day ceremony.

Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director (Corporate Communications) of DMRC, shared the information, saying, “To ensure a seamless journey, trains will run at intervals of 30 minutes until 6:00 a.m., after which the regular timetable will be in place for the day.”

Passengers have been encouraged to plan their trips early and take advantage of the early Metro services to avoid last-minute rushes and delays.

As India celebrates the 76th Republic Day, this national occasion not only marks the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950 but also pays tribute to the sacrifices of freedom fighters.

The theme for this year’s R-Day celebration, ‘Swarnim Bharat – Virasat aur Vikas’ (Golden India – Heritage and Development), highlights the country’s rich cultural heritage and its ongoing journey of progress.

Notably, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will be the chief guest for the Republic Day celebrations, marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and Indonesia.
