J’khand HC quashes FIR against 18 BJP leaders including Babulal Marandi, Sanjay Seth

Ranchi, March 17 (IANS) The Jharkhand High Court has granted relief to 18 BJP leaders, including BJP state President Babulal Marandi, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, Rajya Sabha MPs Pradeep Verma and Deepak Prakash, as well as Dhanbad MP Dulu Mahato.

A Bench led by Justice Anil Kumar Choudhary ordered the quashing of the FIR filed against these leaders in connection with a clash with police during the Yuva Aakrosh Rally in Ranchi in August last year.

The rally, organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha on August 23, 2024, at Morabadi Ground in Ranchi, addressed issues such as unemployment, irregularities in government job examinations, delays in results, and the regularisation of contract workers.

Allegedly, after the rally, thousands of BJP workers attempted to breach barricades while marching toward the Chief Minister’s residence, leading to a violent clash with the police.

Following the incident, an FIR was lodged at Ranchi’s Lalpur police station against 51 named BJP leaders, including Babulal Marandi, former minister Arjun Munda, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, and then Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri, along with 12,000 unidentified individuals.

The charges included inciting riots, violating government orders, obstructing official duties, and causing harm to others.

The FIR claimed that despite repeated warnings and the imposition of prohibitory orders, BJP leaders and workers defied instructions, pelting stones at on-duty police officers and leaders on stage incited the crowd to attack.

Among those named in the FIR were seven MPs — B.D. Ram, Aditya Sahu, Deepak Prasad, Pradeep Verma, Vidyut Varan Mahto, Manish Jaiswal, and Dulu Mahato — and 17 MLAs, including Neelkanth Singh Munda, Randhir Singh, Neera Yadav, Ramchandra Chandravanshi, Aparna Sengupta, Kushwaha Shashi Bhushan Mehta, Pushpa Devi, Samari Lal, Kedar Hazra, Raj Sinha, Naveen Jaiswal, Narayan Das, Amit Mandal, Alok Chaurasia, and Kishun Kumar Das.

The 18 BJP leaders challenged the FIR in the Jharkhand High Court. After hearing the case, the court ruled in their favour, providing them with substantial relief.

New Delhi, Jan 20 (IANS) A controversy erupted over remarks made by AAP MLA and spokesperson Rituraj Jha, who referred to Rohingyas and illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators as ‘relatives’ of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

The comments, made during a live debate on a leading news channel, sparked outrage among BJP leaders, who are now calling for an apology from former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP MLA for what they deem an insult to the Sikh community.

Jha’s remark, which was seen as a direct attack on Puri has drawn sharp criticism from BJP leaders, who have demanded that the AAP MLA be removed from the party.

Manjinder Singh Sirsa, BJP leader, expressed anger, stating, “Rituraj Jha’s use of the word ‘apshad’ to describe Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and his baseless claim that Puri is related to Rohingyas is not just an insult to him but to the entire Sikh community. Such derogatory remarks show the true mindset of AAP. It is a disrespect to people who have sacrificed their lives for this country. I call on Arvind Kejriwal to seek forgiveness from the Sikh community and expel Rituraj Jha from the party. This is an unacceptable statement, and the Sikh community demands an apology.”

RP Singh, another BJP leader, echoed similar sentiments, saying, “This is not just an attack on Minister Puri, but an insult to the entire Sikh community. Jha’s assertion that the Rohingyas and Bangladeshis are relatives of Puri is completely unfounded. We demand that Arvind Kejriwal and Rituraj Jha apologise to the Sikh community for mocking them with such baseless accusations.”

The controversy has gained momentum on social media also, with BJP’s IT Cell chief Amit Malviya also calling for a public apology from the AAP leader on X.

“AAP MLA and spokesperson Rituraj Jha has insulted Sikhs by calling Rohingyas and illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators relatives of Hardeep Singh Puri, a proud Sikh. Arvind Kejriwal must immediately apologise to Mr. Puri and the Sikh community for this abhorrent comment.”

The incident comes as Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh from AAP recently accused the BJP of facilitating the “settlement” of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas across the country.

Meanwhile, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) reported on Sunday that it had apprehended 916 people, including 586 Bangladeshi nationals and 318 Rohingyas, since 2021, highlighting the ongoing concerns about illegal immigration.

Bihar Budget: Farmers, youths and women in focus ahead of Assembly (Lead)

Patna, March 3 (IANS) Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections 2025-26, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Samrat Choudhary has presented a populist budget aimed at farmers, students, and women, with a total allocation of Rs 3.17 lakh crore.

Bihar is an agriculture-based state, with 80 per cent of the population dependent on farming. Keeping this in mind, the government has prioritised farmers’ demands to secure their support in the upcoming elections.

Bihar’s Finance Minister Samrat Choudhary said that Rs 3,528.22 crore for the agriculture sector, that is 1.11 per cent of the total budget, Rs 1,289 crore for modernisation and development of 21 agricultural production market premises and cold storage facilities to be established at subdivision and block levels.

The government will coordinate with NCCF and NAFED to purchase tur, moong, and urad at minimum support prices (MSP).

Along the lines of Sudha Dairy, the government will open vegetable outlets at the block level to help farmers get a fair price for their produce and expansion of primary vegetable producer cooperative societies (PVCS).

Currently, 302 PVCSs exist under the Bihar State Vegetable Processing and Marketing Federation (VEGFED).

In 2025-26, PVCS will be expanded to all blocks and affiliated with unions.

The government plans to improve air travel facilities for middle and upper-class citizens.

Air service from Purnea will start within three months, airports will be developed in Rajgir, Sultanganj (Bhagalpur), and Raxaul. Small airports will be built in Bhagalpur, Valmikinagar, Virpur (Supaul), Madhubani, Munger, Saharsa, and Muzaffarpur under the UDAN scheme.

Small aircraft having 19-seater capacity will operate in these small airports. The Nitish Kumar government has given a boost to the education sector.

It has allocated Rs 60,964 Crore for the financial year 2025-26. As per the plan, degree colleges will be opened in 358 blocks of Bihar. The idea is to attract student voters.

Samrat Choudhary has mentioned several initiatives to empower women and improve their safety. Kanya Vivah Mandap is one of them.

Under this program, marriage halls for poor girls in all panchayats, hostels for working women in cities, pink buses for women in major cities with women drivers and conductors and housing for women constables near police stations.

Samrat Choudhary also targeted Dalit and Backward caste people in this budget with welfare initiatives like scholarships for Backward Classes & Dalits will be doubled.

In this budget, the state finance minister has allocated Rs 20,335 crore for the health sector. He mentioned referral hospitals to be built in major subdivisions and a new cancer hospital in Begusarai.

In a bid to achieve the target of reaching any remote area of the state from Patna in just 4 hours, Rs 17,908 crore was allocated for the road infrastructure for urban and rural areas.

To promote the sports, the state government has planned to build outdoor stadiums in all remaining blocks and the ‘Medal Lao, Naukari Pao’ (Win medals, get government jobs) scheme to continue.

The state government has allocated Rs 100 crore to build smoke towers to combat pollution. With an election year ahead, the budget strategically targets backward classes, farmers, women, and infrastructure development, while also focusing on healthcare and environmental concerns.

The budget received appreciation from CM Nitish Kumar, who hugged and praised Samrat Choudhary after its presentation.

The special focus on agriculture aims to attract farmers’ votes ahead of the 2025 assembly elections. With provisions for MSP, market modernisation, and cold storage, the government seeks to strengthen Bihar’s agrarian economy while boosting rural livelihoods.

Project to rejuvenate wastelands using Miyawaki method for Ludhiana

Chandigarh, Dec 27 (IANS) A project to rejuvenate urban wastelands using the Miyawaki forest method, a concept inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address on “Mann Ki Baat” programme in June 2023, is aiming to transform 5,500 yards into a green forest in Punjab’s industrial and the most polluted city Ludhiana to fight climate change and curb pollution levels.

The project comes in the wake of rejuvenating additional two acres in association with the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (LMC).

A total of Rs 2 crore is being spent in two phases for the new project with the preservation and planting indigenous trees, a Ludhiana-based firm said on Friday while announcing a pilot initiative in Chandigarh to expand its environmental and social responsibility.

It has also approached the Municipal Corporation to rehabilitate abandoned parks using the Miyawaki method, Miyawaki plantation, the Japanese method of creating dense urban forests in a small area.

The Prime Minister in his monthly radio show “Mann Ki Baat” also cited the example of a Kerala-based teacher, Raafi Ramnath, who used the Miyawaki technique to transform a barren land into a mini forest called Vidyavanam by planting 115 varieties of trees.

Creating green spaces in urban spaces is the need of the hour, especially in the light of cities choking under pollution and rapid development.

In addition to its environmental endeavours, the company has planned to provide employment opportunities to retired Agniveers under the Agniveer scheme.

Responding to PM Modi’s call for industries to support retired Agniveers, the group has decided to reserve five per cent of its future recruitment for them, with a goal to employ 250 Agniveers in the future.

An official of the firm that took responsibility for the project emphasised that Agniveers’ discipline and training would be valuable assets for the company, which currently employs 5,145 workers and aims to reach 10,000 employees by 2029.
