Maanvi Gagroo questions society: “Why are men not judged for peeing on the road?”

Mumbai, Dec 19 (IANS) Actress Maanvi Gagroo, who is all geared up for her latest offering, ‘Four More Shots Please’, has put forward her strong stance on society being constantly judgemental about women.

Talking to IANS, the actress questioned why it is always women who are under scrutiny for their choices and why men are rarely questioned at all, even when their actions are illogical.

“I feel there is constant judgement around what women do whether they drink or not, smoke or not, or party or not. Nobody seems to judge men for things like peeing on the roads. So why aren’t men being judged in the same way? They should be, right?!” asked Maanvi while talking to IANS.

“My issue is with the clear difference in judgement between the two genders. Actually, firstly, let’s get both the genders on an equal level. Before even discussing whether the judgement is right or wrong, we need to ask whether judging anyone is fair in the first place, to be honest,” Maanvi concluded.

Maanvi Gagroo, in ‘Four More Shots Please’, essays the role of Siddhi Patel – a relatable, no-nonsense voice in her strong-headed, crackling friend group, juggling ambition, friendships, and life’s chaos while calling out hypocrisy with wit and humour.

Talking about Four More Shots Please season 4, which was released on the 19th of December, marks the final season. The first three seasons received great responses from audiences and critics alike.

The show, along with Maanvi Gagroo also stars Bani J, Kriti Kulhari, Sayani Gupta Prateik Smita Patil, Dino Morea, Lisa Ray, Rajeev Siddhartha, and Ankur Rathee, alongside new faces including Anasuya Sengupta and Kunaal Roy Kapur. The show has been directed by Arunima Sharma.

Santhanam comes onboard Simbu’s film with director Ramkumar

Chennai, April 30 (IANS) It’s official! The makers of director Ramkumar Balakrishnan’s eagerly-awaited film featuring actor Silambarasan in the lead on Wednesday welcomed actor Santhanam on board the project.

It may be recalled that IANS had, a fortnight ago, reported that Santhanam was to be a part of Simbu’s film with Ramkumar and that the actor had given his nod to the request.

Dawn Pictures, the production house producing the film, took to its X handle to make the official announcement. It wrote, “#STR49 is going to the next level.The most awaited reunion is here. Welcoming @iamsanthanam on board.”

Santhanam first made an impression as a comedian in Tamil cinema before going on to make an impression as a hero. However, after turning a full-fledged hero, the actor stopped appearing as a comedian in the films of other heroes.

Now, it looks like Santhanam will be making an exception for actor Simbu, with whom he shares a close bond. Both actors are known to be really close friends, with Santhanam often crediting Simbu for his growth in the film industry.

Ramkumar Balakrishnan, best known for his superhit film, ‘Parking’, will be directing STR49, which is being produced by Dawn Pictures.

The film, which is being tentatively referred to as #STR49, was recently in the news as the makers of the film announced Sai Abhyankar as its music director and actress Kayadu Lohar as the film’s heroine opposite Simbu.

The makers have so far released a poster of the project in which Simbu is seen folding his hands behind his back. In it, he is seen holding a text book that has the title Engineering Materials and Metalurgy and inside it is a knife with blood on it. The poster also had a caption that read ‘The Most Wanted Student’.

Simu Liu talks about Hollywood’s lack of representation for Asian actors

Los Angeles, Nov 26 (IANS) Actor Simu Liu, who was seen in Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” has called out the Hollywood industry for the lack of visibility of Asian actors in cinema.

The star shared his thoughts on the lack of representation of his community on a post on social media.

“Put some asians in literally anything right now. the amount of backslide in our representation onscreen is …. appalling,” Liu shared on Threads. “Studios think we’re risky.”

Liu shared his view on the industry after reading a post calling for more Asian men to be cast in romantic lead roles, reports deadline.com.

The actor pointed to titles like Minari, Farewell, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Crazy Rich Asians and his own Marvel movie as examples of films that did well in the box office.

“Every single one a financial success (sic),” Liu added.

“No asian actor has ever lost a studio even close to 100 million dollars but a white dude will lose 200 million TWICE and roll right into the next tentpole lead. we’re fighting a deeply prejudiced system. and most days….(sic)”

This is not the first time Liu has called out the lack of representation of Asian actors in Hollywood.

In 2023, he replied to an article that noted he was getting “the bulk of Asian make roles.”

Liu replied to the Facebook post saying, “Way to attempt to put us against one another. What ‘bulk’ of roles are you referring to? Are there movies I’m in that I’m not aware of? Do you really think that there is a quota of ‘Asian male roles’ that is a zero sum game?”

“Everything I have taken post Shang-Chi was not written in Asian. We’ve been able to reshape stories to get more representation onscreen. Get your facts straight.”

Shooting of Santhanam-starrer DD Next Level wrapped up; Film to release in May this year

Chennai, Jan 29 (IANS) The makers of director S Prem Anand’s upcoming horror comedy ‘DD Next Level’, featuring Santhanam in the lead, on Wednesday, announced that they had wrapped up the shooting of the film and that the film would now release in May this year.

Actor Santhanam, along with other members of the film unit, cut a cake to mark the completion of shooting on the last day.

The production house, Niharika Entertainment, announced the completion of shooting on its social media timelines.

Taking to X, it said, “We just wrapped up horror on the sets to serve it on the screens for you! #DDNextLevel – Devil’s Double – May Release! Directed by @iampremanand. Produced by @TSPoffl, @NiharikaEnt #DhillukuDhuddu @arya_offl @menongautham @selvaraghavan @geethika0001 @KasthuriShankar”

It may be recalled that only a week ago, the unit had released the first look of the film on the occasion of actor Santhanam’s birthday.

DD Next Level – Devil’s Double, which will be the next instalment in the hugely successful Dhillukku Duddu (DD) franchise, features Santhanam as the protagonist once again.

This time though, directors Gautham Vasudev Menon and Selvaraghavan will be seen playing pivotal roles in this latest instalment.

Produced by Niharika Entertainment and The Show People, on a huge budget, the film is being presented by actor Arya.

S. Prem Anand, who directed ‘DD Returns’, is helming this new film as well.

Director Prem Anand, while speaking about the film earlier, had said, “DD Returns was a huge success with great response from the audience from all walks of life. We worked on the script of its sequel for one year. From children to adults, everyone will laugh and enjoy this flick too.”

The director had disclosed that the story of this film would start on a cruise ship and take place on an island. “We erected sets with a huge budget. It’s great that Niharika Entertainment, actor Arya and Santhanam have teamed up to produce this film. It will be more exciting and hilarious than ‘DD Returns’. The film will provide an enjoyable experience to fans of all age groups,” he had said.

Dipak Kumar Padhy has handled the cinematography of ‘DD Next Level’, and Ofro has scored its music. Bharath is in charge of editing and AR Mohan has handled the film’s art direction.
