New Parish committee takes charge at St Joseph’s Church, Borimar

Mangaluru: The newly elected church Parish committee of St Joseph’s Church, Borimar — a parish with a 133-year-old legacy — was formally inaugurated at Borimar village near Bantwal in Dakshina Kannada district.

In the elections held in December, Maxim Sequeira of Borimar was elected vice-president with a decisive majority, while Melvin Martis of Mani was chosen as secretary. Divya D’Souza of Kedila was elected committee convener and Janet Lasrado of Baltila as zonal representative.

The swearing-in ceremony was held recently following approval from the Mangaluru Diocese. The inauguration coincided with the New Year and was marked by a solemn Eucharistic celebration. Parish priest Rev Patrick Sequeira administered the oath of office to the newly elected members.

Parishioners said the election reflected a clear mandate for change amid concerns over corruption and mismanagement in the past. The new committee brings together elders, middle-aged members and youth, a combination that has generated fresh optimism within the parish.

The formation of the new body has also been welcomed by several religious and social leaders of the Mangaluru Diocese, who expressed hope that it would usher in transparent and inclusive administration.
