Online booking begins for R-Day parade Full Dress Rehearsal on Jan 23

New Delhi, Jan 14 (IANS) Due to the unprecedented demand for tickets for Republic Day Celebrations (RDC) 2025, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is issuing the passes to witness the Full Dress Rehearsal of the parade, which will be held at Kartavya Path on January 23, the Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

The registration for the passes can be done by the users directly from the following portal/platform: Aamantran portal (aamantran.mod.gov.in) and Aamantran mobile app, which can be downloaded from the Mobile Seva App Store.

The registration for the passes will be open between January 13 to 17, from 9 a.m. onwards till the quota for the day gets exhausted.

The Defence Ministry said this decision reflects the commitment towards ensuring the maximum participation of the people in RDC 2025.

The information related to RDC 2025 may be viewed on rashtraparv.mod.gov.in, it added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry said that Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh visited INS Rajali, the Indian Navy’s premier Naval Air Station, located near Arakkonam in Tamil Nadu on Monday.

He inspected various operational facilities at the station, where he was apprised of the extensive volume of operations carried out by the station and its capability to meet the evolving security requirements.

The event showcased INS Rajali’s state-of-the-art infrastructure and its strategic significance in maritime surveillance and combat readiness.

Commanding Officer, INS Rajali Commodore Kapil Mehta, briefed the Defence Secretary on the Air Station’s operational preparedness and its role in ensuring maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

Rajesh Kumar Singh also interacted with the service personnel at the station, appreciating their dedication and contribution to safeguarding national maritime interests.

He highlighted the critical importance of maintaining a high level of combat preparedness and operational vigilance to address the dynamic challenges of the IOR’s geopolitical landscape.

New Delhi, Dec 30 (IANS) The inaugural edition of the Indian Navy Half Marathon (INHM) is scheduled to take place on February 2, 2025, in Delhi, the Defence Ministry said on Monday.

The event, aimed at promoting health and fitness among participants from all walks of life, is expected to attract entries from across the country competing in three race categories: 21.1 km Half Marathon, 10 km Run and 5 km Run, making it an inclusive event for runners of all calibers and backgrounds, the Defence Ministry said in a statement.

Preparations are underway to deliver an unforgettable experience for all participants. The event will be hosted at the iconic Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, with the race route covering India Gate and the historic Kartavya Path, it said.

The event will be attended by distinguished personalities from the Defence forces and civil society. This landmark event aims to promote health and fitness, encouraging people to embrace physical activity and adopt an active lifestyle for overall well-being.

The event aspires to create a sense of camaraderie and competition, bringing people together to forge stronger bonds with the Indian Navy and among themselves. It also aims to inspire the youth to lead adventurous lives and consider joining the Indian Navy, a career synonymous with courage, discipline, and service to the nation, said the statement.

The INHM is envisioned to become an annual event, joining the ranks of similar flagship runs conducted by the Navy in Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, and Kochi.

Notably, runners who complete all four Navy marathons within a year will be honoured with the prestigious Navy Slam, a special souvenir engraved with medal designs of all four events.

The Maiden India Navy Half Marathon in Delhi was earlier scheduled to be held on October 6 but the schedule was revised later.

By getting people together in a spirit of camaraderie and competition, the event also hopes to forge stronger bonds among the people of the National Capital Region and beyond, besides encouraging the youth to take up an adventurous life by joining the Indian Navy.

Bengal school job case: Charges likely to be framed in ED case today

Kolkata, Dec 23 (IANS) The process of framing of charge in the case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the cash-for-school job case is scheduled for Monday’s second half at a special court in Kolkata.

However, sources said that the investigating officials are keeping their fingers crossed over the smooth completion of the charges-framing process over uncertainties of the physical presence of two key individuals named as accused in the case.

One of them is a prime accused in the case Sujay Krishna Bhadra considering the series of instances of him dodging physical presence at the court in the recent past on medical grounds.

At the same time, it is not yet certain that another accused in the case Kalyanmoy Bhattacharya, who is currently settled abroad, would be able to appear at the special court on Monday.

Bhattacharya is the son-in-law of former West Bengal Education Minister and Trinamool Congress Secretary General Partha Chatterjee, who is another prime accused in the ED-registered case and is scheduled to be physically present at the special court.

As per the rule, the process of charge framing cannot be concluded unless all named as accused in the charge sheet are physically present on the day of framing of charges.

In the case of individuals named in the charge sheet, the accused person is required to be present at the court. In case, the accused named in the charge sheet is any institution or corporate entity, any representative of that entity is required to be present.

In the subsequent charge sheets filed by the ED in the school job case, a total of 54 had been named, out of which 29 are individuals and 24 are corporate entities and trusts.

The prime trust named in the charge sheet is Babli Chatterjee Memorial Trust, named after the deceased wife of Partha Chatterjee. The ED has claimed in the charge sheet that proceeds in the school job case were shown as donations to the trust and thus diverted.

Highest seizure of drugs valued at Rs 16,914cr achieved in 2024: Amit Shah

New Delhi, Jan 11 (IANS) Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday that in 2024 the NCB and police forces across India seized drugs valued at Rs 16,914 crore — the highest since Independence.

Chairing a regional conference on ‘Drug Trafficking and National Security’, HM Shah stressed the importance of timely policies, enhanced intensity, meticulous micro-planning, and consistent monitoring for the success of the campaign against this menace.

Home Minister Shah said that between 2004 and 2014, 3.63 lakh kg of drugs was seized, which increased seven-fold to 24 lakh kg in 10 years from 2014 to 2024, which is a huge achievement.

He said the value of drugs destroyed in the 10 years between 2004 and 2014 was Rs 8,150 crore, which has increased seven-fold to Rs 56,861 crore in the last 10 years.

He underscored that achieving a drug-free India is crucial to realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047.

The objective of the conference, organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau, was to focus on tackling the growing concern about drug trafficking and its impact on national security, with a special focus on eight states and the Union Territories of northern India.

HM Shah also launched the Drug Disposal Fortnight and inaugurated the new office complex of Bhopal Zonal Unit of the NCB and extension of MANAS-2 helpline to all 36 states and Union Territories.

The ‘Drug Disposal Fortnight’ is dedicated to the destruction of confiscated narcotics. As part of this campaign, 1 lakh kg of narcotics valued at approximately Rs 8,600 crore will be destroyed over the next 10 days.

HM Shah emphasised the need for a comprehensive, 360-degree “Whole of Government” approach to achieve total victory in the fight against drugs.

After dedicating the extension of the MANAS-2 helpline across 36 states, the Home Minister urged all states to actively promote the MANAS app and toll-free number, emphasising the importance of prompt, result-oriented action on every call to enhance the helpline’s credibility.

He noted that over 25,000 people have already engaged with the helpline and stressed the need for swift action on every call to ensure its effectiveness.
