Pakistani migrant found murdered in Jodhpur house

Jodhpur, Oct 27 (IANS) An incident of murder has been reported from the Mata Ka Than Police Station area of Jodhpur city, an official said on Monday, adding that the deceased was identified as a 20-year-old youth whose family migrated from Pakistan about two decades ago.

Vijay Kumar, a resident of Mahadev Nagar, was found dead under suspicious circumstances inside his house on Monday morning. According to police, the young man’s mouth had been stuffed with a cloth, and his hands and legs were tied behind his back with a rope.

Preliminary investigation suggests the crime took place on Sunday night when Vijay was alone at home.

Officials suspect the involvement of close relatives or someone known to the victim. ADCP East Virendra Singh, ACP Mandore Nagendra Kumar, and the FSL team reached the spot and collected evidence.

Police said Vijay worked as a car mechanic and usually returned home at around 10 p.m.

However, on Sunday, he came home unusually early at 8 p.m. When he did not respond to phone calls the next morning, his relatives and neighbours went to check on him and discovered his body inside the house.

Neighbour Kanhaiyalal told police that Vijay’s family had migrated from Pakistan about 20 years ago and had since obtained Indian citizenship. The family was currently in Phalodi, while Vijay lived alone.

He added that there were signs of dragging and a struggle inside the house, indicating that Vijay had tried to fight off his attackers.

When relatives couldn’t reach him over the phone, a neighbour visited the house and found the family’s dog outside while the horrific scene was discovered inside. Police have shifted the body to the mortuary of Mahatma Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Officials said that the limited number of CCTV cameras in the area has made the investigation challenging. The case has gained added sensitivity as the deceased was recently engaged.

Police have begun questioning family members, relatives and acquaintances to identify the suspects and uncover the motive behind the murder.

Mahagathbandhan lacks policies, leadership, and intention: Tarun Chugh on Bihar seat-sharing confusion

New Delhi, Oct 8 (IANS) Following the announcement of the Bihar election schedule, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Wednesday addressed the ongoing confusion over seat sharing within the Mahagathbandhan, stating that the alliance lacks clear policies, leadership, and intention.

Speaking to IANS, Tarun Chugh said, “Rahul Gandhi’s politics has always relied on borrowed crutches. Even in Bihar, he is hiding behind Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav to claim seats. The Congress’s self-styled princes have never taken any election or issue seriously, and the people of Bihar will never accept such irresponsible leaders. The Mahagathbandhan lacks policies, leadership, and genuine intent. Meanwhile, the NDA government has written a new chapter of development and trust in Bihar.”

“Rahul Gandhi, on the other hand, is busy maligning India abroad and undermining the country’s impartial constitutional institutions at home. The people of Bihar will now have a clear choice between ‘nepotism’ and ‘development,’ and they will give a strong mandate to the NDA,” he told IANS.

Chugh further commented on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s meeting with BJP MP Khagen Murmu, who sustained serious injuries when attacked by a mob in Nagrakata, North Bengal, while visiting flood-affected areas with BJP MLA Sankar Ghosh.

“Mamata Banerjee’s version of ‘democracy’ has become synonymous with attacks on opponents, terror, and appeasement. The attack on the tribal MP and BJP leaders is an insult to the people of Bengal, and the people will respond decisively in the upcoming elections. The silence of intellectuals and self-proclaimed secularists who once praised Mamata as a model of good governance now only highlights the chaos in Bengal. BJP workers and the public are committed to laying the foundation of true democracy in Bengal by freeing it from dictatorship, infiltration, and vote-bank politics,” he told IANS.

Chugh also expressed condolences over the passing of Punjabi singer Rajvir Jawanda, 35, who died after battling illness for 12 days at Fortis Hospital in Mohali.

“Punjabi music has lost one of its most powerful voices. The passing of Rajvir Jawanda is an irreparable loss to Punjabi art and culture. He touched the hearts of not only Punjab but the entire world with his singing. His untimely demise has deeply shaken every Punjabi. Ahmedabad: crackdown on Rs 100 crore Waqf land scam linked to Salim Jumma Khan

Ahmedabad, July 14 (IANS) In a crackdown, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has begun demolition proceedings against an illegally constructed building linked to Salim Jumma Khan, accused in a Rs 100-crore scam involving Waqf Board and municipal land in Jamalpur area of the city.

Salim Khan and four others were arrested on April 20 by the Ahmedabad Police in connection with the fraud.

The Enforcement Directorate also took cognisance of the case in May and initiated its own probe into the matter.

The case dates back to 2009, when Khan allegedly encroached on land that once housed a school destroyed in the 2001 Gujarat earthquake.

Over time, he built residential and commercial units on the site and posed as a trustee, collecting rent from the properties for over two decades.

The AMC had issued a notice during COVID-19 (2019–2020), when the illegal construction took place.

Despite the notice, Khan allegedly sold all 85 flats in the building without legal approval, citing a lack of police protection as a reason for non-compliance.

On Monday, the AMC began demolishing the structure. With bulldozers yet to arrive, workers used sledgehammers to begin tearing down the structure. Power and water supply to the nine-storey illegal building — spread across 2,734 square metres — have also been disconnected. Once the premises are fully vacated, full-scale demolition will proceed.

The Waqf Board in Gujarat is a statutory body responsible for managing and safeguarding properties donated for religious or charitable purposes under Islamic law. Gujarat has thousands of registered waqf properties — ranging from mosques, dargahs, graveyards, and madrasas to commercial and residential assets — many of which are situated in prime urban locations.

However, the board has faced recurring allegations of mismanagement, encroachments, and illegal transfers, often involving powerful local trustees and political interference. Despite periodic audits and state-level oversight, enforcement remains weak, and several waqf lands have been embroiled in disputes or scams — highlighting the urgent need for greater transparency, digitization, and accountability in waqf property administration across the state.
