Lanao del SurIn: In a clash in Lanao del Sur province, southern Philippines, government troops successfully neutralized nine suspected militants associated with Dawlah Islamiyah, an Islamic armed group, according to a statement from Colonel Louie Dema-ala, a spokesperson for the Philippine Army, on Saturday.
The confrontation occurred in a town in the province, situated in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, last Thursday. Out of the 15 militants involved, nine were confirmed dead, including two allegedly connected to the fatal bombing in Marawi City in December 2023, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Colonel Dema-ala further mentioned that the military recovered eight high-powered firearms abandoned by the fleeing militants during the operation.
