Renowned Bengali Actress Anjana Bhowmik, Known for ‘Chowringhee’, Dies at 79

Kolkata: Anjana Bhowmik, a celebrated Bengali actress remembered for her memorable portrayal of ‘Sujata Mitra’ in the 1968 blockbuster film ‘Chowringhee’, has passed away at the age of 79. The veteran actress breathed her last at a hospital in Kolkata on Saturday.

Bhowmik, hailed for her compelling performances, leaves behind a legacy cherished by audiences and critics alike. Survived by her two daughters, Nilanjana Sengupta and Chandana Sharma, she leaves a profound impact on Bengali cinema.

Nilanjana Sengupta, who is married to the popular actor Jisshu Sengupta, along with other family members, confirmed that Bhowmik had been undergoing treatment at a city hospital due to age-related ailments.
