Reorganisation of districts to fulfil people’s aspirations, says Andhra Pradesh CM

Amaravati, Oct 28 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday said that the reorganisation of districts undertaken in the state should fulfil the aspirations of the people and provide administrative convenience.

The Chief Minister said that the problems that arose with the formation of new districts by the previous government should be resolved, and at the same time, new problems should not arise.

Naidu held a review meeting with ministers and officials on the reorganisation of districts.

The state government had formed a seven-member ministerial subcommittee on district reorganisation on July 22 this year.

The review meeting held at the state Secretariat was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and ministers in the subcommittee Anganai Satya Prasad, P. Narayana, Nadendla Manohar, Satyakumar Yadav, V. Anitha, Nimmala Ramanaidu, and B.C. Janardhan Reddy.

The ministers informed the Chief Minister on this occasion that the preliminary report was prepared after considering the opinions of ministers, district collectors, local public representatives, and the people.

The sub-committee reportedly proposed the creation of six new districts, which will take the total number of districts to 32.

After bifurcation in 2014, the truncated Andhra Pradesh was left with only 13 districts. The previous YSRCP government doubled that number to 26 in 2022.

The Chief Minister discussed with ministers and senior officials the reorganisation of districts to correct the unscientific formation of new districts in the previous government. He discussed the promises made during the elections regarding the reorganisation of districts and the formation of new revenue divisions.

Opining that the ill-conceived decision of the previous government on the formation of new districts caused regional differences, as it had not taken into account the aspirations of the people, he asked the subcommittee to take up the reorganisation of districts while keeping in mind the delimitation of constituencies. He wanted the reorganisation of revenue divisions to be taken up separately.

Naidu wanted a study to be done on which revenue ward and constituency the people of the flooded mandals would be in after the completion of the Polavaram project. He said the reorganisation should be carried out accordingly.

The Chief Minister mentioned that the formation of Markapuram district was a long-standing desire of the region. The ministers told the Chief Minister the issues that came under their consideration and the opinions of the respective sections.

Another meeting will be held next week for further discussions on the proposals, Naidu said.

The state police and other law-enforcing agencies, so far, have arrested 4,276 drug peddlers after registering 2,308 cases under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985, he said.

The BJP leader said that over 47,600 Self Help Groups (SHGs) have been formed in Tripura and lakhs of people, mostly women, are earning profits from their numerous ventures across the state.

Among the SHG members, over 91,000 women emerged as ‘Lakhpati Didis’ through their engagement in various producing and enterprising units, Bhattacharjee said.

He said that as the peaceful law and order situation and the conducive environment is prevailing in the state, numerous industrialists have signed many MoUs recently to set up their industries across various sectors.

Addressing the media, senior minister Nath said that with the support of the Central government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tripura achieved success in almost all sectors, especially in connectivity and infrastructure.

Per capita income of the people of the state rose to Rs 1,77,723, he said.

Nath said that the BJP government has introduced the Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana for universal health benefit for the people of the state while nine super-speciality units have been launched in government hospitals in the state and in addition 150-bed privately run new ‘Shanti Niketan Medical College and Hospital’ has also started functioning.

In many respects, Tripura now holds the leading position among states in the country, he said.

Oppn slams Maha govt for taking up Aurangzeb grave and Kamra show, bypassing core issues

Mumbai, March 26 (IANS) After the conclusion of the four-week budget session of the Maharashtra Legislature on Wednesday, the opposition strongly criticised the Mahayuti government for devoting more time to the Aurangzeb grave or Kunal Kamra show, bypassing the core issues during the session.

The opposition legislators comprising Jayant Patil, Nana Patole, Bhaskar Jadhav and Jitendra Awhad also criticised the ruling alliance for disrupting the House proceedings and its attempt to undermine the opposition due to their smaller numbers. They also claimed that less time was devoted to opposition during various debates and also taking up calling attention motions.

“The Constitution that we discussed in the legislature for two days is being repeatedly trampled upon. I have been working in the legislature for 36 years now. I have seen the Congress party, which had a huge majority, but the Congress party has never done anything to suppress the voice of the opposition. Giving due share to the opposition is the responsibility of the ruling party, which is not being followed now,” claimed NCP-SP legislator Jayant Patil.

“Even though we are few in number, it was our responsibility to raise issues of various sections as their representatives. Therefore, we raised key issues during the discussion to bring them to the government’s notice. In this session, the House worked for 147 hours, of which 1 hour and 45 minutes were wasted by the ruling party. Nine bills were passed in this session. How much time was spent discussing these bills? Then where did the 147 hours go? Four proposals of the ruling party and three of ours were not discussed sufficiently. Then it is time to think about what was discussed. Not a single promise made before the elections is mentioned in the budget. With so many members being elected, this government has become unruly, it is behaving like a mad elephant,” criticised the Shiv Sena-UBT group leader Bhaskar Jadhav.

Congress legislator Nana Patole said that they have succeeded in fulfilling their role as an opposition in the session. “We tried to make the government talk about the issues of the people. But the government itself was busy raking up religious disputes. The lust for power was seen in this session. The ruling party tried to conclude the session not once but thrice, this is the first time in the history of the state. The government tried to hide the evidence of corruption cases that we gave,” he commented. Patole claimed that it was quite visible that the government was creating religious disputes and spoiling the atmosphere in progressive Maharashtra to hide its failure.

Meanwhile, the state Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar announced that the monsoon session of the state legislature will start from June 30 in Mumbai.

Steve Jobs’ wife Laurene Powell prays at UP temple, to visit Maha Kumbh

New Delhi, Jan 12 (IANS) Laurene Powell Jobs, the wife of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, is in India to attend Maha Kumbh 2025, slated to begin on January 13.

On her way to the Maha Kumbh, to be held in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, she also offered prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi.

Accompanied by Swami Kailashanand Giri Maharaj of Niranjani Akhara to the temple, Laurene adhered to the traditions of the temple.

She wore a pink suit and had a white “dupatta” on her head. Laurene offered her prayers from outside the sanctum sanctorum at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

“She followed the traditions of the temple…As per our Indian tradition, in Kashi Vishwanath, none other than Hindus can touch the Shivling. That’s why she was made to see the Shivling from outside,” said the Swami.

He also mentioned that they prayed for the successful completion of the Maha Kumbh without any obstacles or difficulty.

“Today, we have come to Kashi to pray to Mahadev that the Kumbh is completed without any obstacles… I came here to invite Mahadev. Our disciple Maharshi Vyasanand is with us from America. Tomorrow he is becoming a Mahamandaleshwar in my Akhara,” he added.

Laurene, who was renamed as ‘Kamala’ by the Akhara, will attend the Maha Kumbh. According to Kailashanand Giri, she will stay in Kumbh and is also planning to take a dip in Ganga.

‘Maha Kumbh’, the grand mela, will conclude on February 26 in Prayagraj. It is held once every 12 years.

Meanwhile, in a bid to tap global tourists, the Union Ministry of Tourism plans to offer a toll-free Tourist Infoline (1800111363 or 1363).

Besides English and Hindi, the toll-free Tourist Infoline will operate in 10 International languages to provide help, information, and guidance to make the experience smoother and more enjoyable for international visitors at the mega event.
