SC seeks Karisma Kapoor’s response on Priya Kapur’s plea for access to divorce papers

New Delhi, Jan 16 (IANS) The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor on an application filed by Priya Kapur seeking certified copies of records relating to the 2016 divorce proceedings between her and industrialist Sunjay Kapur.

During an in-chamber proceeding, a single-judge bench of Justice A.S. Chandurkar directed Karisma Kapoor to submit her response within two weeks in relation to Priya Kapur’s application.

Priya Kapur has approached the apex court seeking certified copies of all documents connected with the divorce case, including the divorce petition, pleadings filed by the parties, orders passed by the top court, and, in particular, the settlement recorded between Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur in 2016.

In her application, Priya Kapur has contended that access to the complete divorce records, especially the settlement terms concerning financial arrangements and custody, is essential for the adjudication of the estate dispute pending before the Delhi High Court.

The divorce of Sunjay Kapur and Karisma Kapoor was effected after the proceedings concluded in a settlement that resolved both custody and financial obligations between the parties.

According to Priya Kapur’s counsel, issues concerning the children’s financial arrangements, education expenses, and post-divorce obligations have repeatedly arisen in the estate litigation, making it necessary to place the complete factual background of the divorce settlement on record.

It was further argued that clarity regarding the terms agreed upon between Sunjay Kapur and Karisma Kapoor at the time of divorce is essential to determine whether the issues now being raised had already been settled during Sunjay Kapur’s lifetime.

The application is apparently linked to the broader family dispute over Sunjay Kapur’s personal estate, in which his children from his marriage with Karisma Kapoor have sought a share, alleging that the will favouring his widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur, has been tampered with.

Sunjay Kapur, who had married Karisma Kapoor in 2003 and divorced her in 2016, died at the age of 53 after suffering a heart attack while playing polo in the UK. He has left behind a property worth about Rs 30,000 crore.

And the respect he gave me backstage, the way he talked to me on stage, and the way he talks to his friends—that is his greatness. And it is because of such small things that he is such a big superstar. Because he touches the hearts of people,” she shared.

Gauahar went on to share how, years later, he still greets her with warmth and affection, something she treasures deeply. She also expressed how proud and grateful she feels to be part of the same Fauji legacy and said it’s a story she will pass down to her children.

“And today I am saying this because I will remember it for the rest of my life. Whenever I meet him, even after so many years, he meets me with so much love. For me, it is enough that in Fauji 1, there was Shah Rukh Khan, and in Fauji 2, there was Gauhar Khan. I will tell this to my children all my life. And by adding this legacy to them, I am very happy and grateful to Allah.”

Gauahar Khan made her fiction TV debut with “Fauji 2”, the sequel to Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic 1989 show. Produced by Sandeep Singh under Legend Studios, the show also starred Vicky Jain. The series premiered on DD National on 18 November 2024 and digitally streams on Waves.

Kalki Koechlin on how her character’s fictional nature in ‘Bhay’ allowed emotional access

Mumbai, Dec 31 (IANS) Actress Kalki Koechlin, who recently appeared in the web series “Bhay,” revealed that the fictional nature of her character Irena allowed them a certain emotional access without distorting reality.

Shedding further light on her character, Kalki shared that although Gaurav’s character was based on a real person; her character was a result of the writer’s imagination, giving them a certain level of freedom.

She shared a statement saying, “Irene is a fictional character, but Gaurav and the Indian Paranormal Society were very much real. In fact, the Indian Paranormal Society still exists. That gave us a certain freedom in how we approached the supernatural elements, while also staying rooted in reality.”

Sharing what she found interesting about “Bhay”, Kalki added, “What I really liked about the show was how it moves between the past and the present at the same time. You’re not just watching an investigation unfold, you’re feeling how history, memory, and unanswered questions keep bleeding into the present.”

She also reflected on how Irene’s personal trauma draws her deeper into the mystery.

“Irene carries an emotional secret of her own. Her ex has died by suicide, and that loss shapes how she responds to Gaurav’s story. She doesn’t say it out loud, but it’s always there. That’s what makes the investigation personal for her. For me, Gaurav’s death remains the most unsettling part. The idea that he supposedly strangulated himself is very hard to believe. There is still so much around it that remains unexplained,” explained Kalki.

With Kalki and Karan Tacker as the leads, the show also features some noteworthy performances by Saloni Batra, Danish Sood, Nimisha Nair, and Shubham Chaudhary, among others.
