St. Stephen’s College, St. Thomas School in Delhi receive bomb threat, search underway

New Delhi, July 15 (IANS) St. Stephen’s College of the Delhi University, and St. Thomas School in Dwarka received bomb threat emails on Tuesday morning, prompting the immediate evacuation of students and staff, according to the Delhi Police.

Soon after the alerts were raised, teams from the Delhi Police Bomb Disposal Squad, Dog Squad, Fire Brigade, and Special Staff were dispatched to both locations.

As of now, no suspicious items have been recovered from either institution, police officials confirmed.

According to the Delhi Police, the premises are being thoroughly investigated and searched. So far, nothing suspicious has been found.

The threats came via email, the police said.

The Delhi Fire Department also confirmed that both St. Thomas School and St. Stephen’s College received the bomb threats through email communication.

Authorities moved swiftly to evacuate all individuals from the buildings as a precautionary measure.

The police are working to trace the source of the emails. The investigations are underway, and further details are awaited as investigations continue.

The Bombay Stock Exchange, located in Mumbai, also received a bomb threat on Tuesday via an email sent through its official website, according to the police.

The email originated from an address under the name “Comrade Pinayari Vijayan”, prompting the police to take immediate action.

The latest threats come just a day after three schools in the national capital — CRPF School in Prashant Vihar, CRPF School in Dwarka Sector 16, and another school in Chanakyapuri — were targeted with similar bomb threats.

In those instances as well, bomb squads were deployed and searches were conducted, but all threats were eventually determined to be hoaxes.

Meanwhile, on the same day, Punjab’s Golden Temple in Amritsar also received a threatening email. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the apex religious body of Sikhs, reported the incident to the authorities.

The email reportedly threatened to blow up the langar hall (community kitchen) of the revered Darbar Sahib.

In such a situation, it is also certain that the Chief Minister Sharma government will repeat with a huge majority in the next Assembly elections as well,” he added.

In response to a question, the BJP state in charge said that the people of the state have already given their reply to Ashok Gehlot, they have shown him how much hard work he did in the state. In such a situation, Gehlot should think about why his government failed. “Don’t talk about this and that, tell me where the caravan was looted” (Tu Idhar Udhar ki baat na kar, tu bata ki karwan kahan loota),” he quipped.

Earlier, Agarwal held a meeting of state officials in the BJP state office. The meeting was chaired by state president Madan Rathore and veteran worker Narayan Panchariya. In the meeting, Agarwal directed all officials to run the sangathan parva smoothly and in a timely manner. At the same time, state president Madan Rathore reviewed the preparations for sangathan parva and discussed the upcoming municipal by-election.

‘Centre’s intent not clear’: JMM questions census notification

Ranchi, June 16 (IANS) The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has raised concerns over the census notification issued by the Central government on Monday, questioning its intent and transparency.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s central office here, JMM General Secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya said that while the notification has come after a prolonged delay, the government has failed to provide clarity on the format and methodology of the census.

“In the absence of a defined format, there are growing apprehensions of a political conspiracy behind the move,” he said.

Bhattacharya further expressed concern over the entire census process being conducted digitally, alleging that this increases the scope for manipulation.

“There’s a high possibility of data being altered or misused. Since the data will be entered through digital devices by field personnel, there can be manipulation at several levels. Moreover, data uploaded to the Internet is susceptible to hacking,” he warned.

Bhattacharya questioned why the government had not released the census format along with the notification. “This raises serious questions about the government’s intentions,” he said.

He also cast doubts over the timeline proposed for completing the census ahead of the 2029 general elections.

“The process is scheduled to begin on March 1, 2027, across most states and is expected to be completed by December 2028. Given the scale and complexity of the exercise, this timeline seems highly unrealistic,” he said.

The JMM leader also linked the census to the delay in implementing the Women’s Reservation Bill, officially known as the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, which is to come into force after the next delimitation exercise, post-2029.

“With this notification, it appears the government is preparing to delay the implementation of the Women’s Reservation law further, possibly by another five years,” he alleged.

Bhattacharya demanded that the government make the entire census process transparent by publicly releasing the detailed format and outlining data security measures.

“Unless the government ensures complete transparency, this exercise will appear to be nothing more than a political gimmick,” he added.

The Centre on Monday issued the official notification for conducting the population census in the country.

The census, which will also include humongous data collection, including the caste details, will be conducted in two phases.

The first phase will cover the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and two hilly states — Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand — beginning on October 1, 2026. The second phase will kick off on March 1, 2027.

Akali Dal slams Punjab govt for spending Rs 35 crore on installing 25,000 plaques in schools

Chandigarh, April 7 (IANS) The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Monday said the Aam Aadmi Party government’s decision to spend Rs 35 crore in installing 25,000 plaques for minor projects in Punjab government schools and conduct functions to unveil them was a scam in the making.

In a statement here, party leader Daljit Singh Cheema said it was condemnable that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had handed over responsibility for conducting the minor works as well as bringing truck-loads of plaques and holding parent-teacher meetings to unveil the projects to party leaders from Delhi who were charged with corruption and had even done jail terms for various crimes.

“The AAP government has 92 legislators in the state Assembly, but it has not found anyone competent to lead the work and has given this responsibility to Delhi leader Manish Sisodia and others. The Chief Minister has been reduced to escorting the Delhi leaders to schools and hospitals. The outsiders, who have no stake in governance, are framing policies to run the schools and hospitals,” he said.

Asserting that the scheme was nothing but a naked attempt to funnel the state taxpayers’ money to Delhi, Cheema said: “Everyone knows that the Delhi education model is a failed one. There is no sense in trying to replicate it in Punjab except to indulge in a scam through corrupt practices.”

The Akali leader also condemned the manner in which government school teachers were being forced to put up plaques for extremely minor repair works, which amounted to wasting precious resources which could have been used to fill more than 60,000 vacancies, as well as introduce modern educational aids in the government schools.

Cheema also castigated the AAP government for forcing teachers to become social media workers of the government. He said teachers had been asked to open Twitter and Facebook accounts and share AAP government posts with hashtags as part of an exercise to divert the attention of the public from the failure of the government on all fronts.

“I appeal to Punjabis to rise up to safeguard the education sector and prevent the AAP government from destroying it by indulging in such stunts,” he added.
