Stampede case: CM Siddaramaiah to travel to Delhi to brief high command

Bengaluru, June 9 (IANS) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is slated to travel to Delhi on Tuesday to brief the party high command on the recent developments surrounding the Bengaluru stampede incident, which claimed 11 lives on June 4 during the victory celebration of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team.

In Delhi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will meet with the Congress high command and provide details on recent developments.

The visit has assumed significance as the Opposition BJP is demanding the resignation of CM Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, and Home Minister G. Parameshwara.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has confirmed CM Siddaramaiah’s trip to Delhi.

Sources stated that the high command has expressed concerns over the turn of events in Karnataka.

CM Siddaramaiah has been accused of allowing the RCB to hold the event against the warnings issued by the Bengaluru police.

Earlier, in more trouble for the state government, the RCB franchise approached the Karnataka High Court seeking to quash the criminal case lodged against them in the stampede case.

Elaborating on the RCB’s preparations to hold the event, the petition stated that extensive discussions were held with the DNA Event Management firm and the officials of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

The petition further underlined that the police gave oral confirmation for the victory parade and celebrations on June 4. RCB had announced that entry to the stadium was strictly upon registration on the official website and the issuance of passes. This was done to restrict the crowd to the limited capacity of the stadium, it stated.

Soon after the tragedy, CM Siddaramaiah had quickly moved into damage control mode and announced the suspension of five senior police officers, including the Bengaluru Commissioner and two other IPS officers.

Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje dubbed the move unprecedented in the country, maintaining that she had only heard about IPS officers getting transferred on such occasions. She charged that CM Siddaramaiah had suspended the officers merely to save the government from embarrassment.

Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, attacking the state government over the issue, mocked the multiple probes ordered by CM Siddaramaiah.

It can be recalled that the government has ordered a magisterial probe, a One-Man Commission headed by a retired High Court judge, and an investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Sources revealed that since a cabinet reshuffle is on the cards, the high command might initiate steps in connection with the failure to handle the victory celebrations and for embarrassing the party at the national level.

Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated on Monday that he would face any situation and would not run away “like a coward.” While reacting to rumours about demands for a change of his portfolio in the aftermath of the stampede incident that claimed 11 lives on June 4, he said, “We should face the situation and shouldn’t run away like cowards.”

“At this juncture, we have stated that the Bengaluru stampede incident is unfortunate, and it should not have happened. Such incidents should not occur. We are pained. These are challenges, and we should face them. One cannot run away from this like a coward.”

When asked whether he spoke to the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on this matter, he said it was “far from the truth.”

He added, “The media has already claimed that I had been summoned to Delhi. Thanks for this. The high command has asked us about what happened, and we have provided information over the phone. The high command has not called me either to Delhi or Mumbai.”

“The National General Secretaries will call us; they will be concerned over what is happening here. They will ask the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and us,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Dy CM and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar has also visited Delhi, and sources reveal that he had spoken to the high command leaders about the developments. However, he has denied having met any national leaders.

Political circles in the state indicate that the high command is likely to take “decisions” against cabinet ministers regarding the stampede tragedy.

“Those who came in secrecy to harm India’s daughters were crushed in their own hideouts,” the Prime Minister declared.

The operation, he confirmed, destroyed nine major terror hubs and eliminated more than 100 terrorists, sending a clear signal to the masterminds behind cross-border attacks.

“Provoking India now leads only to one consequence — total destruction,” the Prime Minister said.

He also added that the Pakistani Army, which had long sheltered terror groups, was now left humiliated and exposed.

PM Modi highlighted how Operation Sindoor was not only a tactical success but a symbol of India’s military integration.

“The Navy secured maritime dominance, the Army reinforced the borders, and the Air Force delivered precise and powerful strikes,” he said.

He praised the Border Security Force (BSF) and other paramilitary units for their outstanding performance, stating that the coordination across all forces was “remarkable” and a new hallmark of India’s military readiness.

He specifically noted the role of India’s air defence systems — including the indigenous Akash and the advanced Russian-made S-400 — which intercepted Pakistani missiles and UAVs.

Pakistan’s failed disinformation campaign, claiming to have destroyed the Adampur base and the S-400 system, was thoroughly debunked when a photograph of PM Modi standing beside the intact S-400 system was released.

This, he said, was India’s silent but firm response to Pakistan’s lies.

PM Modi lauded the armed forces for executing the operation with surgical precision.

Within 25 minutes, Indian jets struck key terrorist bases deep inside Pakistan.

Despite enemy attempts to use civilian aircraft for cover, Indian forces responded with caution, ensuring zero collateral damage.

“That is the power of a professional, technologically advanced force,” he said.

The Prime Minister warned that although India had paused further military action at Pakistan’s request, this restraint should not be mistaken for weakness.

“If provoked again, India will retaliate with full force — on its terms, in its time,” he said, reiterating that India would not differentiate between terrorist leaders and the governments that protect them.

In concluding remarks, PM Modi said the armed forces have not only protected India’s borders but lifted the pride of every Indian.

Their bravery, he noted, would be remembered for generations.

“This is the new India,” he declared.

“We seek peace, but if humanity is threatened, we will not hesitate to crush our enemies.”

Pak can’t sustain war, their military has turned into business community: Retired Indian Army veteran

New Delhi, May 8 (IANS) Retired Major General Harish Jit Singh on Thursday stated that Pakistan lacks the ammunition, financial strength, and manpower to sustain a war, and asserted that there is no comparison between the Indian and Pakistani armies.

Speaking to IANS, Maj Gen Singh praised the Indian armed forces’ ‘Operation Sindoor’, and said, “The precision strikes carried out by India were not on Pakistan. We have only destroyed their terrorist camps and headquarters. Both they and we know this.”

“More than 100 of their terrorists have been killed. This strike was only on their terror hubs, not on military infrastructure or civilians. Only the terror hubs, where they were trained, where they were radicalised, were attacked. The factories producing terrorists were in the form of madrasas and fake health centres,” he said.

Singh said that, internationally, Pakistan is increasingly isolated, with the exception of Turkey and China.

“Several countries have distanced themselves from Pakistan,” he said.

Referring to recent Turkish military activity, he pointed out the docking of the Turkish Navy warships in Pakistan, which followed the landing of a Turkish Air Force C-130 aircraft in Karachi.

On this, Maj Gen Singh commented, “Pakistan would not have been able to survive 72 hours of war and hence needed the help of Turkey,” while also expressing doubt about how long such help would last.

“Pakistan does not have the ammunition, money or manpower to win the war. Their army also does not have the will to fight, because their army has turned into a business community, which runs most of the businesses in Pakistan,” he said.

He strongly dismissed any equivalence between the Indian and Pakistani armed forces, stating, “There is no comparison between the Indian Army and the Pakistan Army. We can take on the Pakistan Army absolutely, no problem whatsoever.

“If they think that their friend China is there, then if the Chinese start something from there or Bangladesh starts something from there, we are prepared. We can handle all three fronts at the same time.”

According to Maj Gen Singh, Pakistan is aware of India’s military preparedness, which is why “Pakistan’s NSA has spoken to Indian NSA and even their Defence Minister has called for de-escalation.”

Nine Maoists including four carrying rewards surrender in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, May 23 (IANS) Influenced by the Lon Varratu (Come Back Home) campaign being conducted in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district, nine Maoists, including four individuals with rewards on their heads, have surrendered, an official said on Friday.

The surrendered Maoists include Anita Potam, a member of the Dandakaranya Communication Team; Biju Ram Telam from Kamalur, a member of the Line of Sight (LOS) unit; and Badru, also known as Gorga Kadti, the President of the Toynar Revolutionary People’s Committee (RPC) Jantana Sarkar.

The Chhattisgarh government had placed a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on each of them.

Another surrendered Maoist, Payku Podiyam from Potenar, a member of the RPC Chetna Natya Manch, had a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head.

Among those who surrendered, one was active in the Dandakaranya Communication Team, one in Kamalur LOS under the Bhairamgarh Area Committee, one in Toynar RPC, three in Potenar RPC, two in Bechapal RPC, and one in Rewali RPC under the Malanger Area Committee.

These individuals had been involved in various activities such as digging roads, cutting down trees, and putting up Maoist banners, posters, and pamphlets during the “Naxal Bandh Week”.

Their surrender was facilitated by senior officials, including Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, Sundarraj P. (IPS); Deputy Inspector General of Police, Dantewada Range, Kamalochan Kashyap (IPS); Deputy Inspector General of Police (Period), CRPF Dantewada Range, Rakesh Kumar; and other officers, who played a crucial role in convincing them to return to the mainstream.

The Lon Varratu campaign, aimed at eliminating Left Wing Extremism, operates under the Chhattisgarh Government’s Rehabilitation Policy.

The District Police Force and CRPF have been actively reaching out to misguided Maoists to encourage them to reintegrate into society. The government’s Maoists’ rehabilitation policy is being widely promoted in villages, leading to an increasing number of high-profile Maoists surrendering and rejoining mainstream society.

Under this rehabilitation policy, the surrendered Maoists will receive financial assistance of Rs 50,000 along with other benefits provided by the Chhattisgarh government, including skill development training and access to agricultural land.

Since the launch of the Lon Varratu campaign, a total of 984 Maoists, including 236 individuals with government-issued bounties, have surrendered and reintegrated into society.
