Dawood-linked drug network: Bollywood celebs, politicians named in probe

Mumbai, Nov 13 In a stunning development that has rocked the glittering world of Bollywood, several prominent actors and celebrities, including Shraddha Kapoor, her brother Siddhanth Kapoor, dancer-actress Nora Fatehi, politician Zeeshan Siddiqui, son of veteran Congress leader Baba Siddique, Alishah Parkar, son of the late Haseena Parkar, producer Abbas Mustan, and rapper Loka, have been named in connection with lavish drug parties allegedly organised and supplied by a key suspect in a massive Rs 252 crore mephedrone trafficking racket, according to revelations documented in the police remand copy.

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has claimed a significant breakthrough in the sprawling drug case, with the recent deportation and arrest of key suspect Mohammed Salim Mohammed Suhail Shaikh from Dubai, marking the 15th arrest in the probe that traces back to a small bust in February 2024.

According to sources familiar with the interrogation and the police remand copy, Shaikh, a 31-year-old Dongri native and alleged close associate of underworld drug lord Salim Dola, who is linked to the Dawood Ibrahim syndicate, has reportedly dropped explosive revelations during interrogation, pointing to high-profile drug-fuelled parties organised in India and abroad, attended by several Bollywood celebrities and influential figures.

He, according to the police remand copy, has named Bollywood actors Shraddha Kapoor and her brother Siddhanth Kapoor, dancer-actress Nora Fatehi, politician Zeeshan Siddiqui, son of veteran Congress leader Baba Siddique, Alishah Parkar, son of the late Haseena Parkar, producer Abbas Mustan, and rapper Loka, among others, as attendees and participants.

According to the remand copy, he claimed these events, often held at upscale venues or private farmhouses, were funded through drug proceeds and served as networking hubs for distribution, with Shaikh handling logistics from recruitment of peddlers to direct supplies.

The case is now being jointly examined by the Mumbai Crime Branch and the Enforcement Directorate, which suspects that profits from the narcotics trade were laundered into legitimate channels via hawala networks and real estate investments.

Crime Branch officials have indicated that in the days ahead, all high-profile individuals linked to the matter will be summoned for detailed interrogation.

The probe has further uncovered that Tahir’s drug parties extended far beyond Mumbai and Goa, with numerous events hosted in Dubai and Thailand, where supplies were channelled through Indian-origin businessmen.

At least 8 dead, over 20 injured after car crushed between two container trucks

Pune, Nov 13 (IANS) At least eight people have died and more than 20 have been injured in a tragic accident that took place on Thursday near the Navale bridge on the Pune-Bengaluru highway, where two containers collided with each other, causing the trucks to catch fire, after which a speeding container hit several vehicles, officials said.

The injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, with several reported to be in critical condition.

Fire Brigade and Police teams rushed to the spot.

The fire, which had engulfed two container trucks and a car, was successfully brought under control.

Rescue efforts are ongoing to remove a car that was severely crushed and trapped between the two containers.

The police sources said that the incident occurred when the two trucks collided, trapping a car between them before all three vehicles caught fire.

The victims have not yet been identified, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.

“A loaded container truck, travelling from Satara towards Mumbai, reportedly lost control due to brake failure. The truck rammed into more than 7 to 8 vehicles triggering a chain of collisions. That led to a fierce collision involving two large container trucks, with a car trapped and crushed between them. The resulting friction and damage caused the vehicles to catch fire,” said a police officer, who reached at the spot.

He also added, “A preliminary report point to speeding and potential mechanical failure.”

NCP-SP MP Supriya Sule in her post on X expressed condolences, saying that the incident was extremely sad and unfortunate, offering heartfelt tributes to those who lost their lives and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Nearly two weeks ago, another horrific accident had taken place near the same bridge, where the driver of a truck carrying tiles lost control of his vehicle and hit three vehicles one after the other.

The earlier accident took place around 5 a.m. when a truck carrying tiles from Katraj Chowk towards Navale Flyover suddenly lost control and rammed at high speed towards a readymix dumper and two cars.

The accused has been identified as 23-year-old Sukrit Keshav Gowda from Kodigehalli in Bengaluru, who works for a private firm in Whitefield. He has been arrested by the Sadashivanagar police.

According to the investigation, the incident took place on October 26 at around 7.11 pm. Gowda, who was driving a car, was reportedly driving rashly on New BEL Road near MS Ramaiah Hospital when he intentionally rammed into a scooter from behind.

‘Even Hindu Dharma is not registered’: Mohan Bhagwat on legal status of RSS

Bengaluru, Nov 9 (IANS) RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, while responding to a question about the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s legal authenticity, and whether it remains unregistered by choice or to avoid legal obligations, said that ‘many things exist without registration, and even Hindu Dharma is not registered’.

He made this statement during a question-and-answer session on the second day of the event “100 Years of Sangh Journey: New Horizons” held in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Bhagwat stated, “This question has been answered many times. Those who want to raise such questions keep repeating them, and we have to keep responding. This is not the first time this issue has been raised.”

“The Sangh began in 1925. Do you expect us to have registered with the British government — the same government our Sarsanghchalak was fighting against?” he asked.

After independence, he explained, the laws in independent Bharat (India) do not make registration compulsory. “The legal status is also granted to unregistered bodies of individuals. We are categorised as such and are a recognised organisation,” he underlined.

Bhagwat further said, “The Income Tax Department once asked us to pay income tax, and there was litigation. The court ruled that we are a body of individuals, and our ‘Guru Dakshina (donations)’ were exempted from income tax.”

“We were banned three times, which itself implies that the government recognises us. If we didn’t exist, whom did they ban? Each time, the courts dismissed the ban and reaffirmed that the RSS is a legal organisation,” he added.

“Questions are often raised in the Assembly and Parliament; statements are made both in favour of and against the RSS. All of this indicates recognition. Legally and factually, we are an organisation. We are not unconstitutional — we function within the framework of the Constitution. Therefore, we don’t need to register,” Bhagwat clarified.

“Many things exist without registration. Even Hindu Dharma is not registered,” he reiterated.

Answering a question about the RSS’s vision for the next two decades, Bhagwat said, “We want to unite and organise the entire Hindu society, imparting quality and discipline so that it creates a prosperous and strong Bharat — a nation that can share the knowledge of Dharma with the world, making it happy, blissful, and peaceful.”

“That part of the task has to be carried out by the entire society — the entire nation. We are preparing the Hindu society for that purpose. This is our single and only vision. Once we fulfil that vision, we have nothing else to pursue,” he said.

“Organising the entire Hindu society is our task, and we will accomplish it. To organise society, we will do whatever is required. Our mission is to build an organised and strong Hindu society,” Bhagwat concluded.
