US Rejects Russian Allegations of Interference in Indian Elections

Washington: The US Department of State firmly dismissed Russia’s claims of interfering in India’s Lok Sabha elections through the thwarted murder plot of India-designated Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Refuting the allegations, a spokesperson for the US State Department emphasized that Washington does not engage in electoral activities anywhere in the world.

In a regular press briefing, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated, “No, of course we don’t involve ourselves in elections in India, as we don’t involve ourselves in elections anywhere in the world. Those are decisions for the people of India to make.” Miller reiterated that the case involving Pannun remains an ongoing legal matter and declined to provide further commentary.

The Pannun case regained attention following a report by the Washington Post alleging the involvement of an Indian RAW officer in the foiled assassination attempt.

Responding to US accusations, the Russian foreign ministry criticized the lack of reliable evidence implicating Indian citizens and accused Washington of “disrespecting” India as a sovereign state. Accusing the US of a “neo-colonial mentality,” the Russian foreign ministry dismissed the allegations as baseless.
