Uttarakhand CM inaugurates Kunjapuri Tourism and Development fair, makes key announcements

Dehradun, Oct 27 (IANS) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday inaugurated the nine-day-long Shri Kunjapuri Tourism Development Fair and also made key announcements regarding the beautification of temples, buildings, roads and canals in the vicinity.

He paid tributes to the martyrs at the Freedom Struggle Martyrs Memorial and also inaugurated the development exhibition.

Congratulating everyone on the launch of the festival, the Chief Minister said that the fair is a symbol of folk faith, cultural heritage, and glorious tradition.

“This fair, organised for years, has been continuously providing momentum to trade, tourism, and regional development,” he stated while sharing pictures of the fair on his social media handle.

He said, “Our culture is not merely a matter of customs; it is a positive ideology that inspires us in new ways.”

The Chief Minister added that his government is committed to the development of Uttarakhand and is continuously working to preserve religious sites and preserve its identity.

Acknowledging that migration remains a major problem, he said that significant plans are underway to curb it, strengthen the local economy, and promote tourism. He highlighted the promotion of local products on both domestic and international platforms and explained how policies like the Farm Machinery Bank, Film Policy, Apple Mission, and Homestays are working to strengthen the local economy.

The Chief Minister stated that Uttarakhand is the first state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code.

“By implementing strong anti-plagiarism law, over 26,000 youth have been provided transparent employment in the last four years,” he said and also mentioned that initiatives like prevention of religious conversions and demolition of illegal encroachments have gone a long way in restoring people’s confidence in governance.

Uttarakhand Minister of Forest and Technical Education Subodh Uniyal said that the Maa Kunjapuri Fair not only promotes the state’s culture and tradition but also provides a big platform to get acquainted with the culture of the country and the state.

“This fair is continuously moving forward towards sports and development with the cooperation of all,” he said.

“Due to lack of time, I am not able to go to Patna. As soon as the meeting with any party would finalise, I would announce my seat,” she said.

In recent times, Jyoti Singh has been actively engaging with the public in the Karakat and Dehri Assembly constituencies.

Her increased presence in these areas has led to speculation about her potential candidacy from one of these constituencies.

During her visits, she recently praised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his efforts in ensuring women’s safety in the state, highlighting the sense of security that women feel under his governance.

As the Bihar Assembly elections approach, Jyoti Singh’s potential entry into politics has become a topic of discussion in political circles, with many awaiting further announcements regarding her political affiliations and choice of constituency.

Pawan Singh contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Karakat — and came second, ahead of NDA’s Upendra Kushwaha.

Despite losing to CPI-ML’s Raja Ram Singh Kushwaha, he gave an impressive performance in his debut electoral battle.

With the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections approaching, Jyoti Singh’s political move adds a new dynamic to the contest, particularly in Karakat and Dehri, where her husband’s popularity may play a crucial role.

‘I was kept in dark’: Aishwarya Rai slams Lalu-Rabri after Tej Pratap’s expulsion

Patna, May 26 (IANS) Following the dramatic expulsion of Tej Pratap Yadav from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Yadav family by party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, Tej Pratap’s estranged wife Aishwarya Rai has broken her silence, levelling serious allegations against the Yadav family.

Speaking to the media, Aishwarya Rai, the granddaughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Daroga Prasad Rai, questioned the moral standing of Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi.

“Tej Pratap Yadav has admitted to being in a relationship with another girl for 12 years. Then why was I married to him in 2018? Why did they ruin my life?” Aishwarya said, referring to a now-deleted social media post by Tej Pratap in which he spoke about his long-term relationship.

She added, “I cannot believe Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi were unaware of their son’s affair before marrying him off to me. Why was I kept in the dark?”

Hitting out at Lalu Prasad’s public image as a champion of social justice, Aishwarya questioned the silence of the family during her personal ordeal.

“Lalu Prasad Yadav is now talking about social justice after expelling his son. But where was his sense of justice when I was physically assaulted and thrown out of the house by Rabri Devi? Can he answer that?” she asked.

Aishwarya didn’t hold back in her criticism and alleged that the entire Yadav family was complicit in her suffering.

“The so-called social justice of Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi, and Tejashwi Yadav is just an excuse. They were all involved, and I suffered because of them.”

When asked about her future course of action, Rai confirmed that her divorce case is still pending in court.

“We will take the next step legally. The matter is sub judice.”

Aishwarya Rai and Tej Pratap Yadav tied the knot in a grand ceremony in May 2018, but their marriage fell apart within months. Aishwarya had previously accused Tej Pratap and his family of domestic violence and mental harassment, leading to a legal battle that continues to this day.

The latest developments have once again brought the private lives of Bihar’s most prominent political family into the public spotlight, raising uncomfortable questions about transparency, accountability, and personal integrity within political dynasties.

Bus-car collision on highway claims lives of 10 devotees on way to Maha Kumbh

New Delhi, Feb 15 (IANS) In a horrific accident, at least 10 people from Chhattisgarh’s Korba area, who were on their way to the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, died after their vehicle collided with a bus full of devotees from Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh, on the Mirzapur-Prayagraj highway in the wee hours of Saturday.

At least 10 people who were travelling at high speed in the Bolero SUV died after their vehicle collided with the bus on the Mirzapur-Prayagraj highway, police said.

All the people travelling in the Bolero were devotees from Chhattisgarh who were headed towards the Maha Kumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj late on Friday night.

As many as 19 others were injured in the high-speed collision between the bus and the SUV which occurred after midnight.

The devotees travelling in the SUV belonged to Chhattisgarh’s Korba area and they were en route to the Maha Kumbh to take a holy dip at the Sangam on Saturday morning.

Incidentally, the bus with which the SUV collided also comprised pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh.

Giving information about the accident, Prayagraj Additional SP Vivek Chandra Yadav told IANS, “Ten people died after a car carrying devotees from Chhattisgarh to the Maha Kumbh collided with a bus. The accident occurred on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway around midnight. Further investigation is going on.”

Taking note of the horrific accident involving the devotees in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the officials of the administration to reach the spot and expedite the relief work.

The Chief Minister also directed proper treatment of the 19 people injured in the accident.

The bodies of the deceased pilgrims have been taken to Swaroop Rani Medical Hospital for autopsy.

This is not the first mishap to take place involving devotees going to or returning from the Maha Kumbh.

In a similar accident on Tuesday, seven people from Andhra Pradesh on their way home after finishing their trip to the Maha Kumbh, died after their tempo traveler hit a truck on the highway in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district.

Authorities have asked devotees to be careful while driving on the highway, especially late at night.

The Maha Kumbh, the world’s largest spiritual gathering, began on January 13 and will continue till February 26 when Maha Shivaratri will be observed.
