YSRCP accuses Andhra govt of diversion politics on Tirupati laddu row

Tirupati, Feb 22 (IANS) The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), on Sunday, criticised the Telugu Desam Party-led coalition government in Andhra Pradesh for what it called its vindictive attitude and diversion politics in the Tirupati laddu controversy and said the party will not go back on its stand and will continue to expose Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s ‘lies’ and the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam’s ‘irregularities’.

YSRCP leader and former TTD Chairman, Bhumana Karunakara Reddy, said that appointing one-man committee into the Tirupati laddu issue is nothing short of demeaning the Supreme Court as the Central Bureau of Investigation’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) had given the report on the directions of the Supreme Court.

“Any deviations or trying to the question the CID SIT report, which has clearly said that there is no animal fat in the ghee used for the preparation of Tirupati laddu tantamount to questioning and challenging the Supreme Court’s dignity and sanctity,” he added.

The former Tirupati MLA said that the one-man committee is only to take shield from the ‘false propaganda that Chandrababu Naidu and his friendly media had done on the Tirupati laddu’.

He said that once the SIT report proved them wrong, they are running for cover and appointed the committee as a face-saving exercise.

He, however, added that this would not stand the legal scrutiny.

“We will continue to fight against the propaganda and expose the links of Heritage with Indapur and Bhole Baba dairy, which form the origin for the entire scam. The adulteration origins lie in the nexus between these companies and how undue favours were done and the irregularities thereon,” Karunakara Reddy said.

The YSRCP leader claimed that as the arguments of the TDP-led coalition government in Andhra Pradesh is getting weaker by the day, the TTD has now come up with a new idea as part of its diversion politics.

“We have information that TTD is trying to file a case and raise a FIR on the Parakamani theft case, even as the matter is in the Court. The investigation was done by competent people and report given and now they are trying to bring in an FIR with a fresh complaint and hand over the case to a corrupt police officer only to implicate political adversaries,” he said.

The YSRCP leader made it clear that they are not scared of such false propaganda and will fight it out and will expose the nexus and origins of the Tirupati laddu issue.

Bengal Police caution of possible communal tension on Ram Navami

Kolkata, March 29 (IANS) West Bengal Police, on Saturday, cautioned the people of possible communal tension in the state on the occasion of Ram Navami festival on April 6.

The alert was issued at a joint press conference addressed by the Additional Director General (Law & Order) Javed Shamim and Additional Director General (South Bengal) Supratim Sarkar on Saturday.

Sarkar told media persons that they have got specific intelligence inputs on some vested interests trying to instigate violence in the coming days.

“There are plans to instigate people through different posters or posts. The police are on alert. There might be attempts to instigate tension among people from different communities, especially focusing on the occasion of Ram Navami. We requested people not to get instigated. There is no need to worry. But at the same time, we also request people to alert the local police in case they notice any suspicious activities in their respective areas,” said Sarkar.

Echoing Sarkar, Shamim said that special precautions are being taken considering the festive days soon.

“Eid and Ram Navami festivals will be celebrated. There might be attempts to instigate hatred and tension among people by some vested interests. Do not be excited by any rumor. Keep a watch on your respective areas. Inform the police in case of any doubtful activities. We are here to help you on a 24×7 basis. We are determined to prevent any attempt to vitiate the atmosphere of peace in the state,” Shamim said.

Earlier, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also alerted the people of possible attempts to create communal tension in the state. She asked the police to be especially careful in those areas which are close to the international borders with Bangladesh.

Recently, there were reports of communal clashes from Mothabari in Mala district.

Recently, the Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, said that at least 2,000 rallies, big and small combined, will be brought out on the occasion of Ram Navami this year.

He also said that the participation at the rallies on the Ram Navami this year will be double what it was last year.

“Ram Navami will be celebrated this year in a major way. I will be there on the streets on that day. Last year, around 50 lakh Hindus were on the streets to participate in rallies on the occasion of Ram Navami. Last year there were 1,000 rallies. This year there will be 2,000 rallies and around one crore Hindus will participate in those rallies this year,” he claimed.

Ex-IAS trainee officer Puja Khedkar petitions SC seeking anticipatory bail

New Delhi, Jan 14 (IANS) The Supreme Court is slated to hear, on Wednesday, the bail plea of sacked Maharashtra cadre probationary IAS officer Puja Khedkar, who allegedly submitted false OBC and PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities) certificates and fraudulently availed attempts beyond the permissible limits provided for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) by faking her identity.

As per the causelist published on the website of the apex court, a bench of Justices B.V. Nagarathna and S.C. Sharma will take up Khedkar’s anticipatory bail for hearing on January 15.

Earlier, the Delhi High Court had dismissed Khedkar’s pre-arrest bail petition and vacated its earlier order shielding her from arrest.

In its judgment delivered on December 15, a bench of Justice Chandra Dhari Singh opined that prima facie, a strong case was made out against Khedkar, adding that custodial interrogation of a person accused of an offence of such nature is required to unearth the facts.

Justice Singh-led Bench, on November 28, reserved its decision on her anticipatory bail plea after hearing both sides. It was then clarified that till the judgment is delivered, the interim relief granted earlier on August 12 shielding Khedkar from arrest will continue.

Before this, a court here had turned down her anticipatory bail plea and asked the investigating agency to find out if anyone from inside the UPSC had helped Khedkar.

Widening the scope of the probe, Additional Sessions Judge Devender Kumar Jangala had asked Delhi Police to investigate if other people recommended by the UPSC have availed quota benefits without entitlement.

The Centre, on September 7, 2024, sacked Khedkar from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) with immediate effect, a month after the UPSC cancelled her selection in government service.

Khedkar has been found guilty of faking and wrongly availing OBC and disability quota benefits. After cancelling her selection, the UPSC also barred her for life from taking the entrance exam after finding her guilty of faking her identity to take the exam multiple times.

In a status report submitted to the Delhi High Court, Delhi Police had contended that former Maharashtra cadre probationary IAS officer Khedkar had submitted two separate disability certificates for her UPSC exam. The disability certificates dated 2018 and 2021 citing ‘multiple disabilities’ were purportedly issued by the Ahmednagar District Civil Hospital for her UPSC attempts made in 2022 and 2023.

However, as per Delhi Police’s status report, the hospital authorities had denied that the certificates claiming ‘multiple disabilities’ were issued to her by them.

It was found that Khedkar availed relaxed criteria for OBC candidates and persons with disabilities. It then came to light that her father, a former Maharashtra government officer, had property to the tune of Rs 40 crore and that she did not qualify for the non-creamy layer OBC quota.

The UPSC had said that its Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) “could not detect her number of attempts primarily because she changed not only her name but also her parents’ names”.

Kota Floods: Army and SDRF in action as heavy rains disrupt life, schools closed, expressway shut

Jaipur, Aug 23 (IANS) Continuous heavy rains over the last two days have created a flood-like situation in rural areas of Kota. The Army and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have taken charge of rescue and relief operations. Schools across the district remained closed on Saturday, while Kota University has also postponed its scheduled examinations.

Due to overflowing creeks, rivers, and drains, connectivity with Sultanpur and the district headquarters has been nearly cut off. The main market of Digod is submerged, while relief and rescue work is underway in Digod and Nimoda villages.

The Army and SDRF teams are relocating affected families to safer areas.

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway has been closed from Karadia after the rising creek water submerged the eighth lane. Traffic from Kota to Karadia towards Delhi has come to a complete halt. A 4-foot water sheet on the Marwada Chowki drain has blocked traffic, while drains overflowing on Sultanpur-Bhaura Road have further disrupted connectivity.

The Mother Teresa Home in the Bhimganj Mandi area was inundated.

The continuous downpour has increased water inflow in Chambal dams. Authorities have opened two gates of the Kota Barrage, releasing 14,718 cusecs of water.

Kota recorded 127.1 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours, taking the seasonal total to 1096.6 mm so far. The weather has turned cooler, with Friday’s maximum temperature at 25.8 degrees Celsius and minimum at 24 degrees C — just a one-degree difference.

According to Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Center Jaipur, the monsoon has reactivated after two weeks of inactivity. With the trough shifting back to its normal position, a cyclonic circulation system developed along the Rajasthan-Madhya Pradesh border. Its stability caused heavy rainfall across southern Rajasthan, including Kota.

The SDRF team delivered essential supplies under the supervision of the SDM. Also, Army personnel continued rescue operations in Nimoda village, safely relocating residents. Villagers raised slogans of Bharat Mata Ki Jai and Vande Mataram.

Further, there has been traffic chaos as waterlogging on the Bhej river bridge forced its closure again after briefly reopening. On the Mumbai side, traffic was also shut, with several vehicles attempting wrong-side diversions, worsening the situation.
