New Delhi, March 30 (IANS) In a major development, the Delhi Police Crime Branch on Sunday apprehended a notorious criminal named Rahul Ranjan from Jahangirpuri after months of pursuit. The criminal was on the run and wanted in at least two cases of the Arms Act and theft.
The notorious criminal is a habitual offender and has been involved in about 50 cases, including robbery, snatching, theft, NDPS, attempt to murder and more, informed the police.
The Crime Branch, acting on a tip-off on Sunday, reached the spot where he was hiding and took him into custody. For months, he had been changing his place of stay to evade arrest.
Secret information about Rahul Ranjan was received by a police head constable, following which the police team sprang into action and nabbed him from the Jahangirpuri area.
A team led by Inspector K.K. Sharma and under the supervision of ACP Arvind Kumar and DCP Vikram Singh launched a manhunt to nab the absconder. The police raided his rented accommodation in Jahangirpuri, where he was found to be living with his family.
Among the two cases in which he has been nabbed are robbery in the Janakpuri area and possession of Arms, including live cartridges. Both incidents happened about 10 years ago, and he was declared a proclaimed offender by the court, but he didn’t appear for court hearings and kept absconding from the police net.
In 2013, he snatched the purse of a woman resident while she was parking her scooty. Rahul, along with his accomplice, came from behind and lifted her purse containing documents like voter card, ATM card, Doctor slip and a gold chain of 15 gms. He was arrested, and stolen items were recovered from him. He didn’t appear in repeated court hearings and was declared a proclaimed offender.
In another incident, the police team had laid a trap to nab him near West Uttam Nagar Metro station and apprehended him on a motorcycle. A country-made pistol (315 bore) along with 1 live cartridge was recovered from his possession. An FIR under the Arms Act was lodged against him, and a trial was initiated against him.
Rahul Ranjan attained notoriety after dropping out of school. After quitting school, he started working in the transport department, where he came into contact with habitual criminals and started committing crimes like snatching and robbery.

Amaravati, July 29 (IANS) Opposition YSR Congress Party will launch an app to enable party workers or citizens to record ‘injustices’ at the hands of any officer and the same will be opened after the party comes back to power to pay back the perpetrators, announced party president and former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday.
He said anyone being harassed by any official can record his complaint on the app and can also upload evidence, if any.
“Any party worker or anyone facing a false case, harassment or torture may go to the app and record his complaint with all details like the nature of injustice, the name of the official harassing them and the name of the person at whose instance the official is harassing them. He can also upload evidence, including videos,” the YSRCP chief said while addressing the meeting of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the party.
He said the complaints registered on the app will go to the digital library created by the party. “Tomorrow, after we come to power, we will open this digital library and make all the perpetrators face the full force of the law. We will show them the ‘cinema’. We will pay back with interest,” said the former Chief Minister.
He lashed out at Chandrababu Naidu-led coalition government for its vindictive attitude towards political adversaries and neglecting all sections of society by failing to implement poll promises.
Jagan called upon the party cadre to brace up to expose the failures of the government and further strengthen the party from the grassroots, saying the future is waiting for their leadership.
He alleged that the coalition government is steeped in corruption and, to divert attention and cover up its failures in implementing welfare schemes, has been fabricating false cases against YSRCP leaders with a vendetta to spread fear.
“But we are strong enough to face the challenges, as the Party itself was born out of struggle and stuck to its principles all the way,” he said and told the members to be vigilant, united, and use the power of social media in exposing the failures of the coalition.
He gave a detailed account of how vindictive the government has been and arrested MP Midhun Reddy, Nandigama Suresh, Kakani Govardhan Reddy, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, and others.
The YSRCP chief said the persecution of senior leader RK Roja and woman ZP Chairperson Uppala Harika, besides the harassment of Peddireddy at Tadipatri, shows the vindictive attitude of the Chandrababu government towards political adversaries.
On the other side, there has been rampant corruption, and the police have turned into collection agents for the ruling party leaders. From sand to rice, liquor to gambling dens, all are run in mafia style. Liquor outlets have mushroomed, taking corruption and crime to the next level, he said.
He alleged that the education, medical, and agriculture sectors were totally neglected by stopping fee reimbursement and other initiatives, blunting Nadu-Nedu works, and putting Aarogyasri on hold by not paying bills to the tune of Rs 4,200 crore. RBKs have become non-functional, adversely affecting farmers who are not getting MSP for their crops, and the state is failing to procure the produce.
Affirming that his government has a better fiscal record, Jagan said the total loans taken were Rs 3.32 lakh crore during 2019-24, while Naidu has spent 52 per cent of that amount in just 14 months. While the national revenue grew by 12 per cent, the state’s revenue stagnated below 3 per cent, with public funds going into private pockets. His Singapore trip is only to stash the looted funds, he alleged

Jodhpur, Aug 29 (IANS) Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has said that in the SI recruitment exam paper leak case, the investigation is still underway and the names of the “big fish” are yet to come out.
Speaking to the media on Friday during his visit to his home district, Shekhawat urged patience and said that the truth would come out once the Special Operations Group (SOG) completes its probe.
Referring to the Rajasthan High Court’s cancellation of the Sub-Inspector recruitment exam, Shekhawat said: “The court has cancelled the exam, but the final decision is yet to come. The SOG is investigating the matter. Respecting the court’s decision, we should wait for the investigation to be completed. The BJP’s resolution has always been that those who played with the future of the youth must be punished.”
The court, while quashing the exam, had observed that RPSC members were also involved.
On this, Shekhawat commented that those revealed so far are “small fishes” and the “big fishes” are yet to be exposed. He reminded that before the elections, he had warned that many “white-collar” people talking big today would eventually be found behind bars.
Responding to Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav’s remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bihar, Shekhawat accused them of mocking the Constitution while pretending to uphold it.
He said: “The Congress needs deep introspection. Rahul Gandhi has lost more than 100 elections across different places. That is why he is frustrated. I sympathise with him but advise him to introspect.”
On global trade challenges and the US tariff issue, Shekhawat said India will not compromise on the interests of farmers, fishermen, and small industries. He recalled how India overcame sanctions after Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s nuclear tests and expressed confidence that India would once again turn challenges into opportunities by improving quality and reducing costs.
At Jodhpur airport, the Union Minister also paid tribute to BSF jawan Ramesh Popawat, who was martyred while on duty in West Bengal. He met the bereaved family members and consoled them. The martyr’s last rites will be held with full military honors in his native village Boyle.
